Love The Game!42984

SSBM_MAN from Florida, USA says (1/Nov/2004):
For all of you out there the part I like the most is camera mode. Because I would get princess peach and another person. Then I would grab peach and throw her up. I would then press start when I thought it was the right time and cycle through peach. Hopefully I would get a perfect snapshot of her underpants. You can do it in the trophy secton, but not with Zelda. If you want to see Zelda's < remove me > at $$ then go to camera mode and take a snapshot. In the trouphies section there is no way to see up her dress. It's pure white. O'k that was whut I like, but here's the review.

Nintendo unveiled Super Smash Bros. Melee at its E3 2001 press conference, to the collective awe of all the fans in attendance. The video reels displayed characters new and old to the series, several of which genuinely shocked the audience. What the footage alluded to, however, would become much more evident the following day, when the game was open for play to showgoers: that Super Smash Bros. Melee was a slightly updated version of its predecessor, one that had been given an extremely pleasing face-lift. Now that the game has been released, that much can be confirmed--aside from a few minor additions and alterations to the fighting system, Super Smash Bros. Melee plays exactly like its predecessor. But rest assured, this is certainly a good thing. Few games were able to match the maddening pace of its predecessor, while still remaining playable. Even fewer have been able to work that kind of feel successfully into a multiplayer mode, much less one that allows for four players. And when you consider the sheer amount of play modes, secrets, and extras packed into Melee, it becomes that much more enticing.

Super Smash Bros. has always been about extremely fast-paced multiplayer fighting, and Melee is no different. It's an experience that's at its best in the company of other humans. It's easily among the most inventive fighting games released in recent years, 2D or otherwise, and its accessible nature can often hide the reasonable bit of depth its fighting system offers. The game is very good at working wild cards, of sorts, into its matches, which can often change the tide of a battle in a moment's notice. The hammer item is a great example of this: A novice player could theoretically be getting pummeled by a trio of veterans, only to pick up the hammer and pound his or her way to victory within a span of a few seconds. The Smash Bros. system is very good at evening the odds in ways like this, and given the mad pace of the matches, you'll seldom notice until it's all over.

One of the original Smash Bros.' weaker areas was its single-player modes, or lack thereof. Aside from a halfhearted "story" mode, there really wasn't anything compelling, outside of the multiplayer game. Melee thankfully remedies this in many ways. The classic single-player mode is back, bonus stages and all, and the progression changes each time you play through it. The game is also pretty good at mixing things up by introducing several kinds of variations on the characters you'll fight. In one stage, for instance, you might encounter a giant-sized Yoshi, while another may pit you against a team of tiny Donkey Kongs, 15 deep. You can even add these kinds of parameters during multiplayer matches, but that's a whole other story.

The adventure mode is Melee's new variation on the single-player game. In it, you'll progress through a series of side-scrolling levels, all of which are based on or otherwise inspired by Nintendo's extensive and classic back catalogue. The first stage will take you through span of the Mushroom Kingdom that's inspired by the look and feel of the original Super Mario Bros., right down to the strolling goombas and patrolling koopa paratroopas. Another has you running down the lanes of F-Zero's Mute City, all the while avoiding the hazards of oncoming traffic traveling at 500mph. It's easy to let your heartstrings be pulled by these clever homages, but in the end, these adventure stages are really a hit-or-miss experience. Some, like the Super Mario stage, seem well thought-out and flawlessly executed, right down to the memorable Mario theme. Others don't fare so well and wind up feeling jury-rigged and shallow. Sadly, the adventure stage based on Zelda is a bit on the weak side--what could have been brilliant homage to Zelda II's side-scrolling dungeons turned out as an odd mishmash of the series' aesthetics. HAL at least got the classic dungeon theme right, though. Fans will no doubt miss a beat the first time they hear it, in all its remixed and rearranged glory. In the end, at any rate, you'll still play through the adventure mode several times--some of the game's hidden elements can only be unlocked through completion of it in some special way. In the end, at any rate, you'll still play through the adventure mode several times--some of the game's hidden elements can only be unlocked through completion of it in some special way. If there's one serious flaw in Melee, it's the hyper-responsiveness of the controls. You'll likely only notice it when you have to make very precise movements--like when moving over an item to pick it up, for instance. Characters seem to dash more often than they should, and in some of the more precarious environments, this can be quite deadly. You'll also likely have trouble switching directions, especially when you've just finished attacking. Again, this isn't such a serious kink, but it's likely to earn you some underserved blows. The game's spastic nature helps hide these little warts, but they'll surface on occasion, and you'll likely be irked.

So it's been established that the gameplay wasn't drastically messed with. The graphics, on the other hand, have been lovingly retouched, and the effects are immediately noticeable. The character models are pleasantly full-bodied, and the quality of their textures is amazing. The denim on Mario's overalls looks like the denim on your jeans, and the grit on Bowser's shell is almost tangible. The animations are similarly untouchable, and the fact that everything moves at 60fps makes the wonderful level of detail sink in even deeper. One look at Sheik's ninja-like grace, and you'll be immediately sold. Executing special moves bathes entire stages in gorgeous particle effects, and the stages often boast a fair number of effects themselves. The end result is as amazing, though it's also impressively subtle. The sheer pace of the game keeps you from noticing everything outright, though a quick press of the pause button will allow you to zoom in and enjoy the sights.

As you'd expect, all the characters have been faithfully rendered. It's safe to say that most of them have never, ever looked better. There are 14 playable characters available at the outset, and 11 more are hidden throughout the game. Sometimes you'll be challenged by a new character during a multiplayer match, while other times, you'll get to fight one at the end of a single-player game. In most cases, there are numerous ways to unlock the hidden characters, so you'll likely end up with all of them if you play often enough. While all 14 original characters enjoy sufficient distinction from one another, a disappointing percentage of the hidden characters are merely "clones" of certain original characters. Granted, the identities of the hidden characters themselves somewhat makes up for this--you'll be nicely amused, most of the time--but the cosmetically altered move sets and minor tweaks on damage outputs and attack priorities are quite disappointing. Still, with a final roster of 25 characters, you'll likely find several that you like. The faces that make up the roster are drawn from many of Nintendo's classics: Mario, Peach, and Bowser represent the Super Mario Bros. series, while Zelda/Sheik and Link uphold the name of their similarly classic franchise. Metroid's Samus is also in attendance, as is Ness from the Earthbound/Mother series, along with a whole gang of Pokémon. Some of the lesser knowns include Popo and Nana, Ice Climbers' titular characters, as well as some faces from Nintendo's Japan-only RPG series Fire Emblem. Finally, there's also a certain character who more-than-aptly represents Nintendo's early excursions into the realm of handheld gaming. Needless to say, the roster is extensive and clever, and the act of filling it in its entirety will be something that few Nintendo fans will want to miss.

Same with the stages--they all hearken back to a specific Nintendo game, and fans will immediately recognize them. The Super Mario stages, for instance, include variations on several Mario games. One features the breakable blocks of the original Super Mario Bros, as well as the weight-sensitive platforms. The Super Mario 2 stage features a flying-carpet-riding Pidgit and an assaulting 8-bit Birdo, and the one based on Super Mario World is built around the game's revolving blocks and steep inclines. As you've probably gathered, each of the stages is dynamically interactive in its own particular way, and learning the ways that each one behaves is almost as important as learning your chosen character's move set. Certain stages have built-in environmental hazards, while others are populated by pseudo-characters who assail you at every given chance. Some stages will remain fairly static throughout the length of matches, while others will change dramatically--the hidden Metroid stage counts among this group, and it's safe to say that fans of the classic series will almost shed a tear once they see it in action. Each of these worlds, in any event, is brought to life by brilliant music that's based on the actual game soundtrack it was inspired by. Some are fairly faithful adaptations of the games' music, while others are remixed entirely. It all sounds brilliant, for the most part, and fans of the respective games will no doubt eat it all up. Though it's hard to imagine how HAL could have included more fan fodder in Melee, the developer has indeed done so in the game's trophy mode. As you play the game, you'll have the chance to acquire bonus trophies, which are essentially mounted 3D portraits of famous (and not so famous) Nintendo characters, game items, and settings. This is obviously where HAL went nuts--among trophies of Mario, Link, and Samus, you'll find characters from such obscure games as Clu-Clu Land, Balloon Fight, and Duck Hunt. Nintendo was sure to throw in some fan favorites as well--soon enough, you'll be gazing at a 3D-rendered Pit from Kid Icarus, as well as marvelous renditions of some aliens from Metroid. For the most part, you'll gamble for the trophies--every time you play the main game, you'll gain coins that you can use in the game's lottery mode. Your chances of netting a new trophy decreases every time you gain one, though. Lucky for you, trophies start to pop up more and more within the adventure stages as you progress through the game, and certain bonus rounds allow you to snatch some up as well. In all, there are roughly 300 trophies to collect, so you should expect to be at it for a good while.

Super Smash Bros. Melee has clearly been designed to appeal, foremost, to Nintendo's die-hard fans. Those who are familiar with the company's long and illustrious history will no doubt enjoy the game much more than the casual passerby. Judged on its own merits, though, Nintendo's spastic tribute to itself stands quite strong as one of the most engaging multiplayer games available for any console platform. Nintendo's last console was especially strong in the multiplayer department, and, if games like Melee are any indication, the GameCube seems like it will be too. Super Smash Bros. Melee is simply a huge game that, while best enjoyed in the company of others, will also keep the lone, die-hard fan busy for a good, long while. Bye.

I really can't believe this game is this GREAT!38015

Joe Byerly from TX, USA says (6/Jan/2004):
Hi, I would like to give my thanks to StationPlay.com for working to get this review processing station on here. What I would like to say about the game is, that when I first heard of it, I had completely beaten the Nintendo 64 game, Super Smash Bros. the previous week. I had gone around with a proudness, thinking that I had accomplished something. Well, after my learning of this new game, Super Smash Bros. Melee, I was instantly rekindled in my want for this game. There was only one problem. I didn't have a Gamecube!. Well, about 2 weeks ago, my cousins bought a Gamecube. Well, naturally, I had to buy one also. So, I went to Gamestop (great store, I might add) and purchased one for $99.99 dollars. I thoguht, "What a great deal!" So, my cousins had to get more than I did, so they bought Super Smash Bros. Melee. I burned with jealousy until one day, I went to there house and borrowed it from them. I will tell you, for the probably few people who are reading this, this is truly a remarkable game. It has action, adventure, fighting, secret characters and secret battle arenas; who could ask for anything better? It's like the trilogy of "The Lord of the Rings" was to the movie making business. Yes, quite phenomonal. I have looked at reviews from the past few weeks, and I notice some people commenting on the characters. Well, I must say, that every character is truly great in there own way. There are some things that other characters can do, and some things that other characters can't do. There really is no bad or useless character. You just have to find the arena that he/she works best in, and give it all you've got. About the game: the graphics are, seriously, (not because I like this console better than others) better than any other console. The music is truly phenomenal; in fact; I never get bored of watching the introduction and listening to the awesome music therein. I really see no reason to rate it as it is; Mature, unless you count being knocked out of an arena with a Fire Flower extreme violence. (HAHAHA) I shall conclude by saying that I have always been drawn toward Nintendo games than any other. The work that these people put into it; the thought, the construction, the time, the energy; really makes this game worth playing for hours upon hours.
Again, thank you readers, for sharing with me in this revelry, applicable only to this game, as I have not seen a better preportioned game in a long time. Thanks again, StationPlay, for allowing me to write and reveal my high regards to this game. I bid you all a good night, and hope to return again soon.

SSBM is great!41867

ckrimbro from Some Boring place in USA :P says (19/Jul/2004):
Who ever came up with and designed this game deserves to forever be enshrined in the video game hall-of fame. they managed to create the ultimate game, and one of the few games to have little if any flaws.

Super smash bros. Melee is more than a fighting game, sure most of the it is in the form of combat with other players or the computer, but what makes this game rock is that you can play adventure mode where you get to make your way through different levels and fight an endless array of creatures and characters.

The things to unlock in this game are endless, just when I think I've won the final trophy, I go and get another, and alot of the characters are not available at the begining so you have to unlock them, usually I hate when a game makes you unlock characters and levels, but with super smash bros, I actually enjoyed earning these new levels and players (partly due to the fact that not all characters are unlocked by winning, several are just unlocked because you've played the game for a certain time period or you've finished a level with the clock at exactley 2 seconds.)

GRAPHICS

The images in this game are outstanding, its characters from previous nintendo games so of course they are animated and not life like, but wow are they amazing, seeing Mario for the first time on the GC made me "giddy" for the arival of "Super Mario Sunshine" around 2002.

SOUND

Great sound, loud and really clear, i'm not usually a big fan of loud sound in video games, but I found the quality of the explosions, and the characters voices to be very well done.

CONTROL

For me this took some getting used to, but I think that was more due to the fact of getting use to the gamecube controller then the layout for this game. Anybody I know who plays this game after they have had GC for awhile picks it up in a few seconds.

LASTING APPEAL

One thing I commend the creators of SSBM for is that they have managed to create the only game I have ever played that I never get sick of. you can play this forever (and you will find your self playing this game for hours). I think its safe to say that even years from now, I will still be playing and enjoying this game.

It has everything a player could want, and its safe to say that SSBM is a guaranteed top 10 gamecube game for the rest of the system's existence.

If you don't own this game already then drop what ever you are doing and get this great game!

SUPER SMASH BROS. 3!!!!!!!!25708

Rob from Canada,Kirkland,Quebec says (18/Jun/2003):
I played SSB on N64 and completed everything you can do!!!
Then i heard SSBM the Sequel with more Action and Characters and of course more Stages was coming out!!!
I got SSBM and bought Gamecube and freaking played like mad and completed all the Characters and Secret Characters and got everything there was to get and proboly beat it all over again at least 3 times...But better news came...
I was surfing the internet and it turned out that SSB3(Super Smash Bros 3)Was coming out!!!I swear i am telling the truth and i can tell you a bit of things that were sposed to be in or are going to be in...For sure there is going to be 35 characters and 8 secret characters that are all from Nintendo.I heard that there was going to be all original stages from SSBM and 18 new ones from SSB3.There are going to be only 6 or 8 secret stages.I heard a rumor that Sonic and Tails were going to be added into SSB3 and mabye...Just mabye Knuckles as well. For sure for sure Ridley from Metroid Prime and other Metroid games is going to be in it.Slipy and Peppy the Frog and Rabbit are going to be both secret and so is Ridley.Daisy and Wall Luigi and Wario are going to be set as secret characters also.If you played SSBM on Gamecube you should know that Zelda can turn into Sheik...Rumors are passing on and are saying that Ganondorf could switch to his powerfull wicked form.(Ganondorf)If you have played the game Earth Bound with Ness in it you must know one of his friends named Poo...Its an odd name but he is going to be secret.I heard you have to beat all the BREAK THE TARGET Stages to unlock him with all starting characters besides Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. If some of you have noticed in SSBM...Princess Peach can go into Daisy when you switch her coulor with the X and Y buttons.I heard that Baby Mario can go into Baby Luigi by doing that same thing.Poo and Ness will be almost the same just like how Ganondorf is a resemblence to Capt.Falcon and how Kirby=JigglyPuff and Pickachu=Pichu and Donkey Kong=Bowser etc...Thats all i found out so far and i hope this is true...Sorry if i wasted lots of your time by you guys reading all this...I hoped this helped and look forward of seeing SSB3 in late 2004 around December...If you want to know more go on the internet and type in Super Smash Bros 3 in the Search System.

A Classic Muliplayer for Nintendo32409

10k from Toronto, Canada says (24/Sep/2003):
This game was going to get a 10/10 especially since there were 13 new characters, But why did it get a 9? Because 12 of those 13 are exact replicas of the oringinal characters. This made me a little dissapointed, but not much. The graphics are solid, the sounds are amazing, the fighting style makes me crawl to my nintendo gamecube and bow down to it. This game is much better then the N64 version. The story mode, the adventure mode is different for most characters, which gives it an amazing single player mode. Even mode is amazing. There's tons and I mean tons of gameplay in this game. If you want to unlock everything, you will need to spend atleast 30 hours of gameplay, but if you take shortcuts of unlocking things(yes ther are more than 1 way to unlock things) you will cut it down to about 20. I took the shortcut. I love inviting my friends over and having tournaments. Thats what makes this game amazing. I still use the same character i did in the N64 version, which is Fox. Some people think he sucks, but i beat THREE LEVEL 9'S against me with him. and no, not th wussies liek pikachu and jigglupuff, i'm talkin about samus, Captian Falcon and Ness. Whats great in this game is the computers are much smarter and difficlut to beat, i can't beat 3 level 9's yet, but i'll work on it. The game introduces new moves, like up+z and down+z, and even a new special move, Smash B( thats forward+B on the controller). The also new charge attck. If u hold A u can increase the damage you do on your attacks, unlike the N64 version. This game is one of the games that is keeping nintendo in business and is an original classic Multiplayer brawl that you and your friends and family can enjoy, or if your an only child or a loner you can enjoy it by yourself.(your not a loner, are you O_o!?)Get it now, if you don't have it(you do have it, dont you O_o!?)

This is the coolest game Nintendo has ever made!44276

A gamer from Southbury, CT, USA says (6/Mar/2005):
Super Smashbros Melee is one of the best games in the whole world! You can unlock sooo many secret characters and stages, and once you have all the characters you can get another 1P mode, and it is really awesome! Mr. Game and Watch is a great character, especially if you have ever played one of his games. He didn't look that good when I first saw him but he really is great! Also, his stage is the best because it looks like a game boy screen, and that is so different from all the other stages. On Classic Mode, the best part is when you get to fight the hand. If you are having trouble getting to Crazy Hand, you should use the character that does best against the hand. Ganondorf is really good against the hand. It took a lot less than a minute to beat it with him. Don't ever use Jigglypuff on Classic unless you want to unlock something because he is really weak on it. Oh yeah, on Adventure, on the underground maze, the quickest way to beat it is to run out as soon as you can and jump off really close to the wall, and then when you see a little openig in the wall, go into it as you are falling, then, you just go straight. This almost always works but you have to have really fast timing to get it, or the finish will move. A ton of the characters are really awesome. Young Link is a lot better than Link because he is faster, and his arrows have fire on them. Plus, if you think that
Peach is bad, that's wrong because her CStick attacks are wicked. They are so powerful. I like how this game has all sorts of characters from different games. On the first Super Smash bros, there aren't as many characters, but in this one they added a lot more. There is so much more to say about this game, and I can't say everything I want all at once like this, but, I could just say that this game is so awesome, and it rocks the world!!!

Greateset Game!41184

Jonathan Au from London England says (6/Jun/2004):
Like so many other games, Super Smash Bros. Meele is the more advanced version of an older game. But with better graphics. This game rocks way harder than the original. Also there are many differences. For one, there are more characters, but most of them are the same. Like Mario. (It wouldn't be a real game without Mario! ~_0) Anyway, this game is way better. Enough said!

Graphics: Like all 2nd versions, The graphics are better than the old timer. There isn't much to say about the graphics except they are better.

Sound: The sound is slightly changed. There are some new songs for some new levels. There are still some common sounds such as the beam sword slashing, Samus powering up for a big blast, the bob-omb explosion, and the death explosion. The announcer sounds pretty much the same too.

Lifespan: The lifespan is very long. (much like the old game) There are 200 something trophies to earn or win. I have had this game for two years and have still not collected all the trophies. (I only need 12 more) To make a long story short, the game will take even a pro more than 9 months. (For the understudys, much, much longer!)

Fun Factor: High and low at the same time. Low because: The game is 2D for cring out loud, You can only get up to 5 lives, you start out with a couple levels and only 10 characters. High because: Some of the scenery comes alive and attacks you, (literaly!) There are 25 characters, (after you unlock them all) and the game is just plain fun!

Value: It's worth waiting for. (Of course it was realesed a long time ago so you really don't have to wait!) I personaly would pay $50 for this game. But you might want to rent it or try it out before you buy it.

The game is way worth saving up for and is very cool. Enough said. E-mail me if this helped.

The most fun you can have27483

Sean Schafer from New York USA says (9/Jul/2003):
It all started with smash bros. on the n64. the action filled nintendo brawler had to be one of the best games ever, you could not have more fun. When i got my gamecube i couldnt wait to get ssbm. luckily i got it the same day i got my gamecube, so i was never w/o it, and i am sooooo glad for that. like the first it controled perfect, the addition of a ~>+B special move was a great idea, and all the other moves are cake to pull off whenever you need to. the gameplay is very fast paced and intense, which makes it a lot of fun. the graphics were incredible. everything, the stages, characters, items, everything is very detailed and the is no slowdown at all, even with this much action. the gamecubes power is unbelievable. the tons of unlockable characters and stages is great, there is so much verity in the characters, and all the stages have diferent hazards and layouts, so you could play this game forever and not get bored(i have 278 hours on mine). the mini games like multi man melee, target test and home run contest, event matches, and the endless number of custom mathes you can make with special melee, item switch, and the features in the options, are tons of fun, some are hard, but fun. the trophy collection is a great new addition, collecting them all is very addicting(i now have all 290). the only downer about this game(and its not all that bad) is that if you play a ton and get awesome the enemies(even at level 9)can get easy(i can take on a team of level 9 guys, 3 vs.1 and not take any damage)but who cares? find some friends who are awesome and kick the crap out of them. overall, this game is amazing in all aspects, get a few buddies and there is no limit to the fun you can have.

how?why?but still the best game ever!!39887

A gamer from federal way, washington says (21/Mar/2004):
this game is the best one ever made by gamecube! I got this game the day it came out and i pllayed it forever! I have played 1,503,674 vs. matches! Ive beat the game 4 times and like the following the most: the characters, a great variety of nintendo stars but wouldve been better if wario had been in it, the adventure mode which allows you to play side obstacles which makes the game all more interesting. But my favorite part of the game is the classic mode. You no longer face the same characters over and over, theres now another hand{stronger than m.hand}and great stages. overall this game is my fav, and I have a question, does anyone know if toad exists i need him! oh and if you want to know how you get m. hand or c. hand email me at jm_965< remove me > at msn.com to find out!!!!! p.s.you really can be them!! also you can get upgrades of the characters, make them stronger, there are 293 trophies, there is NO wario, martha stewart, ganon, koopa paratroopa {i tried!},or giga bowser!!!!p.s.s.you can play as giga bowser with the debug menu and you can be the fighting wire frames with it also.you can be the sandbag with a cheat i still cant find but ive seen it at my friends, and he told me it usually freezes the game, but who wouldnt be happy with the above.the game has the best multiplayer melees with special melees like invisible, single button, small and tiny melee, stamina{theres a code to make more hp} and much more.have u ever noticed there is a blank space under the party ball item.... well the item under it is the x box!! with it you can ko a opponent its stronger than the hammer and automatically kos them!! believe me you can get it but its really hard, but ill leave that two you to figure out.

A King Among Many28760

James Dorsey from Baltimore,Maryland, USA says (28/Jul/2003):
Super Smash Brothers Melee is one of the best games I have ever played. Since I gotten it I still haven't completed the entire thing yet. I have managed to get every stage, character, and complete all 51 event modes. The tropies are what I'm working on the most. Some of them are so freaken hard to get that one might say that it is immpossible. When the first Super Smash Brothers came out, though how fun it was, I was dissappointed on how easy it was to beat it. When Melee first came out I knew that I should get it. Everything about it was better. The character selection was better, the graphics for the game where alot better, larger stages, more stages, and tons of more things to do. The thing I think I liked most about it was the new attacks that they added on to the original characters. Those Smash attacks where the part of the game that made the battels so intresting. I mean there was no greater feeling then powering up your character to send your enemy bouncing onto the face of the screen. The 25 characters that were on the game was another plus. I was alot better to see a different character to fight when your in the Classic mode rather then the same characters over and over again. There was also the Adventure and All Star mode. The Adventure Mode is cool, you get a chance to walk around a stage, like in a RPG, fighting minor enemies or getting chased down by F Zero Racers. In All Star Mode you face every single character with limited % recovers, which really testes ones skills. In all my most favorite charcters where Roy, Pikachu, Marth, Mewtwo, and Dr Mario.

Bring some friends, we're have a Smash Bros tournament!35979

James (Bov) Bovington from Hudderfield, England says (24/Nov/2003):
Super smash brothers melee has to be the best multiplayer game I've had the pleasure of playing, An excellent sequel to an already excellent N64 game. The inclusion of at least 15 new characters really enhanced a winning formula, although some of the character's moves are a bit samey. The graphics and sound are far beyond what had come before, with it's cartoony visual style and bright battle sounds and the single player modes are very well done, something to do when your mates are away.
The trophy collecting aspect of the single player is reason enough to keep playing (Around 219 I think, I'm still collecting!) but you'll always come back eventually to best those single player level scores and times.
Now, the multiplayer, this is what the game was designed for and obviously what it does best, this is where freindships are made solid and enemies made instantly, I once read about a guy who did a 4 person, 24 hour tournament on a game , if you were to try this on smash bros, apart from being one of the best experiences of your life, at least one of you will come out with minor injuries, it can become that competitive!
Its more a life style than a game, with everyone having there own favorite character which no one else can touch.
In brief, all you so called 'hardcore gamers' can keep your super realistic fighters and call mine a kids game, its still one of the best fighting games to grace a console, and definately one of the best multiplayer games of all time.
Cheers,
from the Bov.

More coments from Jie-Sang35979

Jie-Sang from Berkeley ca, USA says (18/Feb/2004):
I have been playing this game for a long time, and it still rocks. People who say that this game sucks don't know what they're saying. They're just hearing from other people who never even played yet; and you know the old rumors that you can get sonic in Super Smash Bros. Melee? I know that I said that was fake like last 3 years ago, but I don't think that people who made the game put it on whatever made the people who play this game believe that you can get Sonic and Tails. I think it was just some Phony people trying to make people hate this game, and think that it has some type of virus just because they didn't get them. If you still believe it, do not make any mistakes. I have done defeating 20 man cruel melee, but still nothing! If you want to know how the people put pictures of Sonic and Tails in SSBm, it's nothing! I've done the same before, and of course I said it was all a fake! You could do it on a word proccer, but not the pictures. Just the talk like "A dream have been cast! dreamland is now yours!" When you get something special or something. The pictures, just take a picture of a SSBM 1 player, or multi player with a digital camera, then some pictures of Anyone not in SSBM, and put it on some kind of thingy where you get to draw pictures on the Computer. Move the pictures to the drawing thingy, then goes the pictures of fake people in SSBM over a few characters, and there! I don't think it works anytime, because you have to download a few things.

The STUPIDEST game I've ever played.27286

Julsrulzinc. from Someplace in Australia says (6/Jul/2003):
Just so all you fans of this game know, I'm an incredibly strict marker on games. Basically, this plotless game is one of the most pointless games ever. Tap at thecontrol stick wildly and hope for the best! But that didn't stop me playing for hours every day! :) The graphcs were good, despite the fact that the entire game was played in a sidescrolling manner, the fact that it had so many customizeable options was great, and all the characters (INCLUDING the "clones") made the game ever than before. The presence of bad guys to smash the hell out of was great, too! Adventure mode in 1 player was boring, dull and repetetive, but the all- star matches(You have to unlock this mode) were a great idea. And the classic mode was better than in the last game. Also, the one- player mini games were great.
Finally, as I mentioned above, the fact that you could only side- scroll was anoying, but the game creators made up for that by making so many levels. In my opinion, one of the levels that should have been available to unlock in the classic N.6.4. level area should have been Hyrule castle, but that comes as no surprise, considiering that I'm a Zelda fan!
Finally, the new interactive version of the credits was great.
Yup, Super Smash brothers melee is great fun, good for venting anger, one of the best games built, absolutely plotless and sensless and a great game.
