If your constipated and you want that to end, simply play this game. your constipation will soon end, abruptly.

the variety of characters in the game (12 for those who haven't played)is astounding and the graphics are great. The insanity system is interesting, if a bit anoying at times, with some of the sanity effects that are genuinly chilling.
The reason this isn't just a mediocre game is the sound, the sinister music in the opening FMV really sets the mood and throughout, ther sound effects scared me stupipd, pour example, when your sanity drops slightly your character starts to mutter and cry, a bit more and a soundtrack of children and a woman crying starts(the woman's crying is actually a sample from the sherlock holmes film 'the hound of the Baskervilles', if you wanted to know, and then the knocking starts, knocks on doors that have noone behind or are locked just freak me out, and of course the running, you start to hear runnning upstairs, even when your upstairs you hear the sound of someone hurrying eminating from empty rooms.
To give a sample of a sanity effect, this one is fixed and always happens, about half way through the game after a chapter you enter the dining room of the empty mansion and here a creaking, on further investigation you discover a body hanging over the table, when you look at the cadaver closer(with a slight tap of B) it hangs for a moment swaying ominously then its eyes suddenly snap open, the screen flashes white and you end up outside the dining room door, if you want to know more sanity effects play the game.
I had the misfortune to attempt to play this on a windy night in winter and I have some advise for people who might want to try it, don't, unless you really like a good scare. Ooh and if you live in a creaky old house and you try to do and all nighter, make sure you have lots of fresh underpants.
In summary, an excellent game with some minor flaws that wont spoil your gaming unless your an excesive compulsive, and a genuinly frightening lovecraftian style story.

I liked the large variety of characters the game possesses and the spooky opening sequence. It is a nice addition to your survival horror collection. I thought it would be just another Resident evil rip off just trying to cash in, but I was 100% wrong. I found it to be a pleasant game with enough drive to become sucessful on it's own. I hope you give this one a try. It will hold your interest before a sequel come into play

The game has some of the best effects ever like the insanity meter, its incredable. The freakiness of this game has made me be prone to playing only during the day with the sound way down. I was amazed by the games ability to scare the hell out of me. The bathroom scene where you examine the tub is something to watch out for...it left lasting scars in my mind....so be warned

The graphics look great from the environments to the character models. The sound is perfect, all the music fits the mood of the game perfectly and the voice acting is solid. The controls are also very smooth to handle, all the characters are easy to move around and getting to your inventory and using your items or casting spells is done very simple. The storyline is also what make this game so fun to play theres various characters you get to use and different time periods you get to explore throughout the game. One other thing that makes this game so great is its sanity effects. You wont find that type of thing in any other game where the game can completly fool you many times without you knowing right away.
| this is the scariest game ive ever played | | joel from florida, USA says (5/Mar/2003): | the entire time you dont know whats real and whats not. drink about 4 cans of mountain dew, bag of chips, play by yourself and 1 am at night in the dark and see how long you last before you turn on the light. Its the freakiest game i have ever played. You'll start wondering when you walk into a room and the ground is misty and it's screaming at you. that's right. Freaky faces are stuck in the ground screaming ant you. It's the most eriest sound you'll ever hear. You'll start freaking when you start hearing a woman scream and a chain saw is cutting her. Anyways, the gameplay is not as good as resident evil but the story is 10 times scarier. its well worth it.

The first thing you'll notice when you play this game is the graphics. Their simply drop-dead gorgeous! (Get it?) The rich, detailed backrounds have tons of light sources, shadows, ect. They take full advantage of the Gamecubes power. Now about the sound; It has many voices, noises, and surprises enough to scare you. The controls are easy and confortable; The "R" button mixed with the analog stick lets you target enemy body parts, the "L" button mixed with the analog stick lets you run, the "A" button attacks with the L Button, or can attack multiple enemys alone. The "B" button reloads anytime, the "X" button mixed with the analog stick lets you sneak up on an enemy, and finally, the "Y" button does quick spells. The only flaw in the controls is the awkward "Z" button, witch reloads when out of ammo. My favorite part of the game is the "sanity" effects. They work like this: When a player sees a specific monster, theyre sanity meter goes down. When it reaches 0, the player goes insane and the sanity effects begin. They dont only drive the character crazy, they drive YOU crazy! The game is much less survivor/horror and more adventure in this game. If your 17 or over, definetly check it out. If your not, play with an adult because it has some frightening images and buckets of blood. Get it.
| Sanity May Or May Not Be A Good Thing | | dilly bar 35 from Gridley, (IL) USA says (27/Jun/2002): | Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem according to me (and I guarantee others agree) is a great game through the sound, story, and the girls, er, um I mean graphics, he he. The story is great, it is fluently kept up throughout the game. The strange thing about this game, though, is that there is no true main character, which I think would make the story harder to develope, but none the less it is a great story. Speaking of not having just one main character it has about seven which is a definate up. The story may be too twisted and demonic for some it still is plenty good enough. The sound can hold itself up on it's own two feet, but it is not drop dead, er... gorgeous? This game has quite a bit of replay value. Maybe not as much as Resident Evil, or Tony Hawk 3, but a heck of a lot more than Crazi Taxi, or 007: Agent Under Fire. Unfortunatley it does not have multiplayer support. Now, finally to my favorite part, the GRAPHICS! Now I agree, compared to the beautiful Resident Evil this game isn't exactly, well... beautiful, but it DEFINATELY rises above the others (a LOT). So, if your asking me if you sould buy it, ohhh yehhh, but don't forget if your under 17 bring your parents, so you CAN get it.
