From chao to boarding to racing to movie type stories this game has it all. | | Victro from Fairborn, OH USA says (13/Aug/2003): | Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is an old Dreamcast game made to date. Sure, this is an old Dreamcast game. Is that bad, though? Not when you can choose whether you want to do the Hero or Dark story, have a superb and long story, great bosses, loads of multi-player, and loads of great music, just to name a few. There is a lot I am going to cover here. I never had a Dreamcast, but this game really has proved to be better than one. I think I will start with the 8 characters for one player. They are as follows: Tails, Knuckles, Sonic, Super Sonic, Dr. Robotnik, Shadow, Rouge, and Super Shadow.
Miles Tails Prower is now using a big machine instead of his two tails to fly. Using his huge intellect, he adds in a special feature to the Tornado 2. (Known as the Tornado in the game.) This makes it turn into a robot. In Tails’ stages, you basically have to shoot enemies with Tails’ Volacan Cannon or lock on to enemies with your laser. If you lock on to enemies, you get bonus points, depending on how many you locked on to. Tails’ Tornado 2 also has a hover ability in which you can travel long distances. There are also Level Up Items for Tails that upgrade his weapons. These three things make Tails a little more enjoyable because he is not flying anymore. I still think the old Tails is better. Tails plays an important role in the story. He normally is referred to Sonic’s sidekick, though. Plus, whenever Tails does something, Sonic tries to do something better. For example, in the last stage, where you are five characters, it makes seem as though Sonic did it. Even the little symbol for Cannon’s Core is Sonic’s, but I think it should have been everybody’s. One bad thing about Tails, in the story, is that when he thinks Robotnik is defeated, he really isn’t. He isn’t as easily tricked as Knuckles, though. Tails can also drive the tornado 2 cart. This thing can transform into loads of things. Unfortunately, Tails has no super form in this game. Tails’ control is good, but he is slow. That Tornado machine is a big machine that Tails could have made a lot better, or could have skipped a machine all together, and use his two good old tails to rescue the planet, and sometimes Sonic. Sonic may not say it, but he depends on Tails a LOT. The music for most of Tails’ stages is superb. I think his theme song was good as well. I think Tails is an excellent character, but would have been superb, if he was not in that machine.
Knuckles the Echidna’s stages are treasure hunting stages. I now own Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut. That treasure hunting was too easy. This one actually gives you a challenge. This game has some hard, but nice riddles. Your detector is also a bit harder. This game has 3 colors, instead of 5. Knuckles’ camera angle can sometimes be impossible, though. This happens if you’re scaling a wall you’re climbing, and then it all of a sudden changes its view to the room behind the wall. This really is a downside to Knuckles’ stages. I don’t like the riddles for Meteor Herd because they are riddles like “Next to a yellow star.” Well, that could mean anywhere that has a star symbol. Knuckles part in the story isn’t that great after the first time you see him mainly because there hardly is any story there. It gets back into buisness after he finds the keys, but it mainly is a mystery how he gets to places like Pumpkin Hill. When the stories intersect, you wonder “How did Knuckles get there so fast?” I also do not care too much for Knuckles music, but maybe other people would. His music is basically rap most of the time. With those errors Knuckles has, he is a great character.
Sonic the Hedgehog is what you COULD call the main character. I think it’s Tails, but enough of that. Sonic is the only character that hasn’t changed from the other Sonic games. In his stages, you basically race to the finish. This is where the true Sonic feeling comes. You don’t have to stop most of the time. You have to occasionally figure something out, but it’s usually pretty easy. Sonic is a character that boards sometimes, such as in Metal Harbor. This is my most favorite thing about Sonic. You better hope you don’t have to go turn around because the camera is terrible when you turn around. The controls are simple, with only two buttons needed, yet they are very difficult to master. I don’t like the timed City Escape because I can’t use my trick in Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut for the key to speed. That is pressing B all the time. In this game, you have to charge for a second, which takes you more time than what it’s worth. Sonic’s music is superb, especially his theme song, “It Doesn’t Matter”. His role in the story is very important. He rescues the world from the Eclipse Cannon, with the help of Tails, Amy, and Knuckles, of course. Sonic is an excellent character with the abiltiy to go at the speed of sound.
Super Sonic is Sonic’s super form. He can become that once he gets all 7 Chaos Emeralds with him. There is only one thing to do with Super Sonic, a boss. This boss is actually hard, even after you have beaten it. It is a boss where you’re in space. I won’t ruin the rest of the story. I will tell you the music can really get you into doing the best you can do. It is superb. Anyway, Super Sonic is great, but would have fared better if he had at least one stage.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik is in one of the same machines Tails is in. (Isn’t it a coincidence that they designed 2 machines that work exactly the same?) In Robotnik’s stages, you have to shoot enemies and race to the end as in Tails’ stages. You can use your Volcan Cannon to shoot wooden boxes, and with a hidden secret on Prison Island, you can shoot metal boxes, too. You can lock on to enemies with your laser, and get bonus points. It can destroy enemies in the vicinity of where the area shot with a secret also on Prison Island. You can also increase your health, as well as hover to get to far away and get that health increase. Robotnik is the main character in the Dark story. He wants to control the world at all cost, or so he thinks… I like him because he is a villain, and you normally can’t see an antagonist’s plans, as you can with the villains: Robotnik and Shadow sometimes. His camera angle CAN be troublesome at times, but normally isn’t, just as Tails’. His controls aren’t too difficult. Robotnik’s music is superb! His theme song is the best. Robotnik is an excellent character as Tails is because they are basically the same character.
Shadow the Hedgehog was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik. For more information on these two character’s history as well as Maria’s, check out Sonic #98, the Dreamcast Adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2(basically the same as Soinc Adventure 2 Battle. In shadow’s stages, as in Sonic’s, you have to run to the finish. You can get Level Up Items that let you run on a path of rings at the speed of light. Again, I can’t use my B trick in Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut to go fast because it takes time to charge. I think his stages are great! The music for Shadow is good as is his theme song. His role in the story is very important to Robotnik. As he tells him how to destroy the world. I think this role is great. Shadow is an excellent character with a very mysterious mystery.
Rouge the Bat is a treasure hunter like Knuckles, except her incentives are jewels and Knuckles’ are protecting the Floating Island. Rouge is out to get the pieces of the Master Emerald, but she also has objectives such as getting 3 Chaos Emeralds, getting keys and driving a cart to catch up to Tails’ plane. I don’t like Security Hall because you have a time limit. It took me a whole day to finish this level so I got all 5 objectives an “A” because I had memorized where all the Emeralds were. She can dig as well as deliver some powerful kicks. I really do not like Rouge’s music very much. The camera can get very troublesome at times. Rouge’s role in the story is a government spy to find out what the Ultimate Life Form is. She doesn’t act like it, though. In fact, she destroys Prison Island. Rouge is overall a great character to use because the treasure hunting is great and that is what you do most of the time with her.
Super Shadow (I hope I have the name right.) is Shadows super form. When he gets all 7 Chaos Emeralds, he can transform into Super Shadow. He has only one boss that he shares with Super Sonic. It is the best I have ever played. The bad thing about this boss is that you have a time limit of 4:59:99. The story is something I won’t explain, but it is superb. The music is what the one from Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut is. It isn’t mysterious. I think that Super Shadow is a great character, but only because he has one boss and nothing else.
The addition of being able to choose between Hero, Dark, or Last is an excellent thing to have in this game. Not very many games have this feature. If you want more information on what this story’s origins are check Sonic comic #98. This gives you the story of part Rouge’s government work, where Robotnik learned about the ultimate Life Form, a chase of the government capturing Sonic the thief, (They thought he was the thief.) and Shadow the hedgehog’s history. I like how this game clears up all information in the long story in last, just as all Sonic Adventure series games do. The script for the story is nice and long. The actor voices weren’t that bad, either. I like having the ability to be on the Dark side, but I wish you could actually conquer it. The Last story is basically another Hero side story. Other than that, whoever thought of having two stories, I give them lots of thanks for this addition. The stories are also nice and long. It took me a whole 3 hours just to finish one story. I think the story is excellent.
The bosses on this game are actually hard sometimes. When you’re fighting Robotnik at the end, the Biolizard, and the Final Hazard are all bosses that I still have trouble on. (I have had this game for a year and 2 months, too.) This is something you rarely see in a Sonic game or any game. That is why this is my most favorite game. If Sonic CD had hard bosses, that would be my favorite. The bosses basically come at the end of a stage sometimes. They do not come after every stage like older Sonic games, but come regularly. I like how there is a mode where you can try to get the fastest time done on every boss for each story, or you can do all the bosses. I wish they would let you type in your name, though. The bosses at the beginning are easy if you are used to the controls for that character. The first boss I ever did was the one with Shadow. It took me loads of tries to figure out what to do, but after that, I never died again. The same thing happened to me on the Biolizard. It took me many tries to figure out what to do on the pink bubbles. I think the addition of hard bosses is great. The bosses also have great music. Overall, I think the bosses are superb.
There are things to get in this game called emblems. You get these for completing something. I will tell you all the ways you can get them. They are as follows: beat the 5 missions for a level, win chao races, beat chao karate, win all the cart races, defeat the bosses in Hero, Dark, and All, and get the all A rank for all the missions.
If you complete a stage, that is considered beating mission 1 for a stage. This is the easiest and probably best part. The next mission is collect 100 rings. All you have to do in this is collect 100 rings and you have this emblem. I think this is excellent. I enjoy doing this. The next one on the list is to find the lost chao. I won’t tell you what to do, but I will say I think this is kind of fun. The next thing on the list is a time limit. I do not think this is that great. The addition of this was poor. This really is bad when you are on impossible time limits like on Radical Highway. I only had one second to spare! The next thing to do is Hard mode. This is a superb mode because it makes the stage harder. This way you will not be as bored. I think the 5 missions are great for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
The next two things are the chao races and the chao karate. First off, I want to tell you about the chao. Chao are virtual pets and grow and mature based on how you treat them. I think the chao alone are well worth your money for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I found out that sometimes if you have too many chao, you want to get rid of them. At the same time though you think to yourself “I payed good money for these chao, so I can’t get rid of them.” What I have is one super powerful hero chao named ca-cag9, one baby dark chao named Meowth, a couple to throw around, and the others just to look at. If you get a chao that is powerful enough, you can get it into chao karate. There are 4 levels of play, and you get an emblem for each one you finish. The chao karate is pretty fun because you get to watch your chao fight. Unfortunately, getting a chao up to level 99 on Super is a long and tedious process. Nevertheless, I still think chao karate is great. If your chao is good in all areas, it is ready to be entered in chao races. You do not get to control your chao when you do the races so it can be boring. The only problem is that you need a hero and a dark chao in order to finish all the races. This is something I have not yet accomplished. It will probably take you at least 48 hours to get your chao race emblems totally done. Istill think the chao races are great, though. Another thing you can do with your chao is take them to school and get them checked with doctor. I think the doctor is useless and lies because I threw my chao about 20 times and he still said my chao was healthy. I like how the chao will play, sing, or do anything else they learned from school. There is also a Black Market to visit. You can buy various items here with your rings. One thing I would like to do is buy Amy’s and Omochao’s theme voices. They seem to only be there when I don’t have enough. I think the addition of the chao was excellent.
The cart races are where you race in a cart. There are three tracks that you can do. I think there should have been more, but they couldn’t have had all the other great stuff if they had. I will tell you more about cart racing. If I’m not mistaken, you get an emblem for every track if you come in first. This was a great idea because that way people will do the cart racing and find out it’s superb.
Defeating the bosses is not really that bad. In fact, I really like doing bosses. There are three excellent modes to choose from that each have their own challenging bosses. Make sure you have enough lives for All because some of the bosses are very hard. This is a superb thing to have because on other games I feel there is no way for me to die unless I mess up. There are some really great bosses like the Final Hazard, the Biolizard, and the second Dr. Robotnik. Overall, I think the boss idea of getting emblems was a superb idea.
The next emblem you can get is the hardest. I am talking about the all A rank. This is something even I have not yet accomplished. I have had this game for a year, two months, and eight days, to date, now, too. This is the reason why this game will last you a LONG time. I like games like this. I know that some of them seem impossible, but they’re not. I thought that about Metal Harbor Mission 1, but now I have all the A’s from the entire Prison Island. It just takes practice, practice, practice. If you do not want to do this, then you can’t get Green Hill, new carts, and new characters. I think it will all be worth it once I get all the A’s. The all A rank was a superb addition to Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
The multi-player is what shows you can have superb single-player and superb multi-player at the same. Some only have good single, like Star Rogue Leader Rogue Squadron 2, and some only have good 2 player, like Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast. These two games are still really good. It’s just that Sonic Adventure 2 Battle has both. Anyway, there are 8 modes of multi-player. They are as follows: a grinding race, chao racing, chao karate, treasure hunting, shooting, running races, cart racing, and a couple of boarding races.
The grinding race is what it says. You grind to the finish line. This is actually pretty boring. It requires no skill except pressing B. Well, I guess it could require skill of knowing when to turn your player based on when you turn. This is something you do not want master until you have mastered everything else in the game. It is not very helpful. I guess it’s a little helpful in one-player, but when you’re there, you do not have to be skilled. I thinking the grinding is a terrible addition to the multi-player lineup. (Don’t worry. Everything else is a LOT better.)
The chao racing is something I never use because I have only one good chao. This is good if you have a friend that wants to test their chao’s racing skills against yours. This is the same with chao karate. The only way to put your chao from either Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, or Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut is to use the Game Boy Advance. I can’t rate this fairly because I never really have used this.
The treasure hunting is basically the same as the treasure hunting in one-player, except you have two players instead of one. What you have to do is get two pieces of the Master Emerald or two Chaos Emeralds before the other player does. Each character has his or her own strengths. The following are the 4 characters: Knuckles, Rouge, Chaos 0, and Tikal.
Kunckles is the same in multi-player as he is one player. He has the ability to glide, dig, and punch. I don’t think you can use the Air Necklace to breathe underwater. There is no story here, so I can’t say anything about that. I will tell you he first appeared in Sonic 3 the Hedgehog. That was a great game for him to debut in. Since then, he has appeared in many other Sonic games. I will not list them all. First of all, there are too many, and second of all I do not probably know them all. You can use attacks such as freezing his opponent. In treasure hunting, Knuckles is an excellent character.
Rouge is the same in the game as in multi-player. She can dig, glide, and kick as before. She can use almost all of her Level up Items. There is no story in multi-player with her. She first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 and also appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. She will make another appearance in Sonic Heroes. This is great. Finally, she will also appear in the great new TV show, Sonic X. I will say nothing else. In multi-player you can also use various attacks like the Black Wave. Rouge is an excellent character in multi-player.
Chaos 0 is the mysterious monster from Sonic Adventure. He is the slowest character in treasure hunting, which is bad because you need speed here. He makes up for this in special maneuvers you can use if you experiment with him a bit. They are pretty cool. Chaos 0 has no story in multi-player. (No one does, so I will not say this any more.) Chaos 0 first appeared in Sonic Adventure. He also appeared in Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut. His attacks are a lot better in multi-player than everyone else’s because they are more powerful and last longer. Chaos 0 is great only because he’s slow.
Tikal is a member of Knuckles’ tribe. She is the fastest character you can be except she has no green light to tell you where to find the Emeralds. She only has yellow and red. Tikal first made her appearance in Sonic Adventure. She also made a premier in Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut as a ball of light most of the time. Her attacks are the worst of all. She is pretty weak in that. She is an okay character because all she has is speed that really isn’t that much faster, so use her in small stages.
The treasure hunting for multi-player has large and detailed stages for most of the levels. There is Mad Space for people who are treasure hunting freaks. (This level normally lasts 5 minutes or more.) There is also Security Hall for people who do not like treasure hunting that much but still like it. There is also Planet Quest for the weak of heart in treasure hunting. All of the stages are excellent for me. I like Security Hall, Mad Space, and Meteor Herd. Overall, treasure hunting is an excellent game.
The shooting battle is different in multi-player than it is one player in most stages. The only thing different is that the objective is to destroy your opponent instead of racing them to the end. On a couple of missions you have to race to the finish. There are 4 characters to choose from. They are: Tails, Dark Chao Walker, Dr. Robotnik, and Chao Walker.
Miles Tails Prower has the same controls in multi-player as he has in single-player. He can shoot the other person with his Volcan Cannon, his Laser Lock On, or the attack he can use when he’s real close to enemies. Tails made his debut in a superb game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He has appeared in loads of other games, too. There are too many too many to say. With some rings, Tails can use some special moves like a Power Laser or Rocket Launcher. Tails’ speed is normal. This is pretty neat. He is great for matches where you are on a reasonably sized stage. Overall, Tails is an excellent character to use in multi-player.
The Dark Chao Walker is a machine with a dark chao in it. The game says it was created by Dr. Robotnik. It is actually pretty neat. Dark Chao Walker is the slowest character, which is okay in this game if you’re in a small stage. He makes up for this in stronger attack power and more powerful stamina. As far as I know the Dark Chao Walker made its debut in this game. I know that the dark chao made its in Sonic Adventure. It has also appeared in Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Sonic Pinball Party. The Dark Chao Walker’s special moves are a lot more powerful than everyone else’s. Overall, the Dark Chao Walker is an excellent character.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik, also known as Dr. Eggman, has the same controls in multi-player in multi-player as he does in single-player. He is an average character with average speed like Tails. That is pretty cool. He first made his debut in Sonic the Hedgehog, and has appeared in almost every Sonic game since then. Robotnik can use special moves like Tails. He is pretty good for stages like Lost Colony. This is the character my dad always is. Even though he has only one match in this, he still keeps on trying. Robotnik is a great character for multi-player.
Chao Walker is the opposite of the Dark Chao Walker. It is the fastest character you can be, (great for those matches where you race to the finish) but has a little worse stamina and firing power. It can get attacks with less rings though, making it harder to defeat as it can fire and then run away. I believe this was created by Miles. As far as I know the Chao Walker made its debut in this game. I know that the chao made its in Sonic Adventure. It has also appeared in Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Sonic Pinball Party. The Chao Walker is great for all the matches. This is the character I always am. It almost always wins the match for me. The Chao Walker deserves a superb because it has speed, but also other things beside that.
The shooting battles are pretty small most of the time, but still pretty fun. There is a stage for a hide-and-seek kind of approach. The others are basically shooting the other player first on small stages. There are also two stages for racing to the finish. All these types are great. Overall, the shooting battles are excellent.
The running races are basically where you run to the finish. There is not much else to say here, except you can attack your opponent in the process of getting there, and the fact that the controls here are third easiest. (Grinding is the first and boarding is the second.) I will go right to the characters. There are 4 of them like the past 2 multi-player games. (That’s if you’re not skipping over some parts of this game review. I don’t blame you if you do So far, if you have read through this entire review so far, you have read almost 6 pages.) They are as follows: Shadow, Amy, Sonic, and Metal Sonic.
Shadow has the same controls in multi-player as he does in single-player. This makes the controls easy to understand. He is like the average character. He has average speed. Shadow first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2. He has appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle as well. He will also come in on Sonic Heroes. This is great. Shadow is one of 2 characters that can use the Spin Dash. This is useful because you can use this to get ahead of people and damage them. He can also use the unique Light Dash. He can also use attacks like Chaos Spear and Chaos Control. Shadow is kind of unfair to use since he gets to do attacks Metal Sonic and Amy can’t. Shadow is a superb character in running multi-player.
Amy is the one who always wants to marry Sonic. She has the same controls as everybody else in multi-player running, making them easy to understand. She is the slowest character not just in this multi-player mini-game, but in the entire game of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. As this is a race, this is terrible to have. She does even get to use the Light Dash ofr Spin Dash. She sort of makes up for this in her attacks. Her Amy Flash, which stops time, can last up to 30 seconds. That is excellent. She can also attack with less rings. That is even better. Amy Rose made her debut in Sonic CD. (My second most favorite Sonic game.) She has made appearances in some other games since then. I do not know which ones. She will come in on Sonic Heroes. Amy can use Speed Up to go Sonic’s normal speed. Overall, Amy only is great since she is so slow.
Sonic has the same controls in multi-player as he does in single-player. This makes the controls easy to understand. He is like the average character. He has average speed. Shadow first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog. He has appeared in many other Sonic games since then. He will also come in on Sonic Heroes. Most people consider Sonic the main character. This is great. Metal Sonic is sort of like Sonic. He has the same controls as him, except for some reason he can’t Light Dash or Spin Dash. He is the quickest character you be in this game. As you can see, running goes from one extreme to the other. Metal Sonic made his first appearance in sonic CD just like Amy. You may have thought you have seen him in other games, but those are either Mecha Sonic or some form of Silver Sonic. He has been playable in Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut. I think he will return in Sonic Heroes. Metal Sonic has no special attacks. This is pretty bad. He has a shield to protect himself from attacks like Storming Hearts. Unfortunately, this does not stop things like Time Stop. The black Shield is good I guess. Overall, Metal Sonic is an excellent character.
Running multi-player has long stages most of the time. I really like City Escape since it combines running with boarding. These stages will contain almost no puzzles at all, but will have more enemies than other games. I am not counting grinding or boarding as running races. Overall, running races are great.
Cart racing is a game where you race other carts. There are many carts to choose from. I will not tell you about all off them individually. (That would take about 3 pages.) There are only three tracks from which to choose from. This really is a shame. To make a match fair and hard against other CPUs, you could have one player be Rouge and one be Tails. Sonic and Shadow would work the same way, as would Knuckles and Robotnik. Their Kides wouldn’t. Overall, cart racing is a superb game.
It’s hard for me to describe boarding. The controls include only A and moving the control stick left and right. There are only two tracks with boarding. I am disappointed in that. They could have made 2-player for Sonic Adventure DX Director’s Cut. You can do tricks with the jumps. My dad is always Amy. I am normally Metal Sonic or Shadow. He is actually good at this game. There have been some good moments in this game. Boarding is a superb game.
Multi-player overall is excellent and so is single-player. With many modes, this game has loads to do. This is not the end of my review, though. This game has a soundtrack to listen to. Instead of buying the soundtrack, you get it for free. This has every single music sound you have ever heard in this game. That way, if you want to listen to the full song, you can do that. I don’t think very many end. Tails’ went on for 10 minutes until I finally stopped it. Overall, the soundtrack is excellent.
Now it is time for my closing remarks. First off, I want to tell you how many pages this is so far. It is 7 pages. That is my longest review so far. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle does not only impress me in its in single-player, but also in its multi-player. This is something I rarely see. Right now I have a list of my top 5 games. They are in order, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic CD, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Dr. Mario, and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. This means I think that Sonic Adventure 2 Battle deserves 15 stars, not 10. I thank the creator’s of this game for such a great game. This answers the question I asked earlier. Is this game bad just because it’s Dreamcast? The answer is no. In fact, look at my list. There is no game that is very advanced up there. I would just like to say that from chao to cart racing to boarding to superb movie-like stories, this game has it all. There is just so much to do. I’ve had this game for a year and I’m still not done. This game will definitely last you a long time. I know that some people say this is a game with a terrible camera, but do not let that stop you from getting this game. For $49.99 ($39.99 now.) this game is definitely worth your money. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is superb in my rating category, but is also the best game I have ever played to this date.

My favorite part is the Chao, because I successfully raised a Hero Chao in a matter of 3 or 4 days. It may seem like a long time, but for me? I don't care. My Chao Angel has Level 72 Stamina, so she's my pick for any race.
As for all of you out there, Mystic Melody for Eggman is in Lost Ocean. :)
Anyways, I would be fine if you never got to play as Eggman. He's too fat. I prefer Rouge and Tails, because they are very versatile characters. Rouge can glide, climb, run, dig, swim,jump, and kick. Tails can fly (in the chao garden), hover, shoot,and jump, although you don't get very far jumping in the Tornado, do you?
Most of the time, when I play Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, I'm only in it for the Chao. In fact, my whole family is only in it for the Chao, except for one, who gives me tips while I play a few stages on Story Mode. Hey, with 6 people sharing a game, that's a lot of Chao! But it's worth it, because this is the first game we've been able to keep for who-know's-how-long without someone deleteing it to play Madden Football.
The graphics are delicious, and I adore the backround music, so this game is probably the best Sonic the Hedgehog game yet. And I know Sonic, my old babysitter used to own a Genisis, and she had a Sonic game.
As for each character's part in Stoary Mode, (I may not be throoughly correct, because I haven't quite finished the dark side yet) I can give my opinon. For first timers to finding the Master Emerald, stick to the Hero Side. If my sources (and my family) are correct, from what I know and what I've played, Knuckles is almost NEVER timed! Sonic, well, what do you expect? high-speed, fast-paced cources, that sometimes have so much to look at you spend 13 minutes staring at the scenery. Tails, although your my favorite, I like your courses the least. Whatever happened to flying for a change? Why does he have to be cooped up in the Torando? Rouge, her levels, though not often timed, are one of my favorites. I can't really explain it, if you follow my lead (Follow me, set me free, trust in me we'll escape from the city!) Sorry, singing again. Anyways, Shadow is hardly ever played in the Dark Side, and I mean it. Throughout this whoel time, I've only played him maybe twice. Eggman. Let's just not talk about it. I hate Eggman, and that's final.
if you don't mind, I'm gonig to talk about Chao again.
Chao, in my mind, are innocent, and peaceful. Once, my little brother hatched a Dark Chao, but soon somebody deleted our game, ruining little Chalulu. So, of course, he's trying to help me raise a Dark Chao, so he can take rule of the Dark Garden. I curently am owner of the Neutral Garden.
My favorite part about Chao? They don't seem to die in the first 5 minutes that you play, like the SA1 for Dreamcast. Unfortunately, I found that they CAN die. Shame one you, Sonic Team/Sega. Chao are not suposed to die! In my opinon, they are too cute to perish! If you make an Sa3, delete the Chao death, why don't you?
All-in-all, SA2 Battle is the best Sonic game yet. Except for the death of Chao.
| Great! | | ??? from Kentland, Indiana, USA says (29/Mar/2003): | Hailing from the sunk-without-trace Dreamcast, Sonic the Hedgehog finally reaches nintendo, and he does it in style. Simple really. Sonic Adventure 2 is hard. Not really as in the solid as a rock type hard, but the so-big-it-hurts type. There are 180 emblems to collect, for christssake! From the moment you start the story mode, you see also the graphics are slick and tasty. (Not literally, obviously.) However, the camera, while offering a nice view of your surroundings, occasionally obscures your character from view. That's just daft. The basic gameplay is this: Run through levels, kill enemies and collect rings. Or run through levels shooting enemies and getting rings. Or run around levels finding treasure. Running is certainly a theme with Sonic games, but it sometimes lets the side down, on the shooting and hunting stages. The shooting stages take place in massive robots, that don't belong in Sonic. Not at the speed they move anyway. And the hunting stages are massive, making running around them searching for a needle in a haystack gets tiresome, even though there's a real sense of freedom. The music is mostly great, perfect cheesy rock. Shame about stages like mission Street though. However, it always suits the levels perfectly. Sound FX are good too, but the voice acting could use a bit of work, especially tails and Amy, who sound like they've been overdosing the helium. To add even more to the games lifespan, there's the extras, such as Kart race and boss fights, but mostly chao raising. The possiblilties for that are endless, and the chao's are what kept me with the game through the more tiresome stages. but when you get addicted to chao raising, you should be prepared to lose a lot of your social life. Overall, this is a good game. Like all games, it has its faults, some stronger that others. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is worth buying, even if you're not a Sonic veteran. And the weaknesses it has are soon lost in the glaring of its strenghs. Remember, I was sorely tempted to award this game a 9. Graphics: 9 - Perfect smooth next-gen stuff, with a great frame rate for the speed it moves at. Sounds: 7 - most of the music is good. The FX are fine, but some voice acting is a bit dodgy. Originality: 7 - Same old sonic stuff, but with a few new surprises. Storyline: 7/8 - It's okay. The second hedgehog inclusion was a great idea. Lifespan: 9 - It goes on, and on, and on, and even when it's done, there's still the chao lure to bring you back
| Save your chao from dying... VERY USEFUL | | Nathan from Rancho Cucamonga, CA, USA says (18/Apr/2006): | We all know that the best things about Sonic Adventure 2 Battle are the chao. They are extremely cute, and you can do almost anything you want to their appearance too. Although since chao age like everyone else, they grow old. 1 Chao Year is 4 hours spent in the garden. Your chao can live between 4 and 5 years, usually 5. I did have one chao, named Chaomi, who didn't reincarnate until she was 6!! Saving your chao from the dreaded and forbidden White Cocoon is pretty easy if you love your chao and think they are adorable. If you are new to the whole "White Cocoon" thing, I'll tell you it is the color of the cocoon your chao enters if it is dying. To save your chao, all you have to do is be extra nice to it, pet it every once and a while, frequently be the character your chao likes, save it if it is drowning, and DON'T HIT IT for no reason. It is ok to punish your chao but don't do it too much or for no reason. If you punish your dark chao for stomping around and saying weird things, then you are doing the wrong thing. A dark chao's personality is to be angry instead of cry like its hero bretheren, so it will stomp and make noises instead. If you punish it, it will just keep stomping, that is, until it softens up and cries like crazy. I'm just saying this because if you DO punish your chao to no end, it won't like you, or worse, it will HATE you, and it will die because of it. If your chao loves you because you feed it, give it lots of level-ups, spend time with it, and rarely punish it, your chao will enter a pink cocoon, in which it reincarnates. Your chao will be an egg when it comes out and will have a Lv.1 in everything, but it will have the same name, color, and animal parts. And one more thing. Don't enter your chao in a race unless you know it's ready. If your chao loses 4th or worse it will feel discouraged and will think you think it did a bad job. Same goes for chao karate. The best thing to do if your chao is about to lose a race is to exit the race and then come back when your chao is faster. After the sad music played, I left the garden (I was in dark garden) Then I re-entered the garden and heard the cocoon sound! My chao was still alive, but it was trying to die again. So with this cheat you either can try to grab your chao before it pops the cocoon and pet it until it likes you enough to reincarnate, or if you really hate your chao and want to watch it die over and over again, you can watch it die, and then enter and re-enter the garden, and watch it die again. This cheat only works until the cocoon fades. Once you hear the popping sound of the cocoon vanishing, your chao is gone forever. I also tried this with the reincarnating (pink) and evolving (blue) cocoons, but it only works on dying cocoons. I also have never tried it in neutral or hero garden, so it may only work in dark garden.
Another cheat is to spy on your chao while it is inside the cocoon. To do this, put your character behind the cocoon. They are so cute! The sound is great, although I like sonic dx's sound better. The graphics are better than any other sonic game I've played! I think the game is worth lots because of the chao. I'm going to tell about my best chao Nimbus and Fang. Nimbus is a sonic chao that looks exactly like the fastest chao in Jewel race; Peridot #5 exept for the facial expression. He has been reincarnated once and was a dark fly type before. He has a 99 in everything exept for stamina, with grade A in run. He is my fastest chao. My chao Fang is named Fang for his gleaming teeth (He has a wide smile) He is a flamefist chao: a brown dark fly chao with red and yellow fists and feet. I don't exactly know how to get this chao, but I mated a normal vhao with a yellow chao. The chao inside was lime green with yellow fists. I let it reincarnate once(It was a dark normal type before) and made it a fly type. The characters I raised him with are Tails and Rouge. All my chao love tails. exept one, which death was the outcome.My chao Angel, my very first chao, was the only chao who disliked tails. I was raising another chao, and I heard the cocoon sound. Angel was inside a pale white cocoon, and she didn't look happy. I was sad when I found out, soon after the cocoon left, that my chao was gone for good. I had no idea where my chao went, untill I looked on the computer. Enough of that. chao dying isn't for me. I guess we will get into the eggman subject. I HATE eggman!! He is so freakin FAT and his head is so freakin SMALL and his legs are so freakin LONG; TOO LONG!! He waddles when he walks. That is why I call him a freakin DUCK!!!!! He's just plain UGLY and he's a DUFUS!!!!! There. That is why everyone hates eggman. The reason I gave the game a score of 9 is because of it killing my first and favorite chao, and it made eggman walk like a freakin DUCK! Try getting a chaos chao sometime. They look cool!! I am eventually going to make Nimbus and Fang chaos chao!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember: EGGMAN STINKS LIKE FART!!!!
| sonic adventure2 ROCKS! | | Andre burgess from Okinawa,Japan says (24/Jul/2004): | out of all of my sonic games which are sonic heroes,sonic mega collection,sonic adventure dx,and sonic adventure 2, Sa2 is the best!my favorite characters are knuckles,shadow,and sonic.the 1 and only character i hate is eggman.he is soo fat that in 1 off my dreams,he busted the Impire State Building.anyways,the chao world is what i do the most.out of the 2 years i played, about 10 chaos died.i know how to make a chao the looks like chaos from sonic dx.u go to the black market and bye a shiny sky blue egg,make it to a neutral chao(if u pet alot it would evolve faster).then when it evolves and haves the glowing orange ball thingy above its head,it would look like chaos.usually if u give a chaos drive or an animal to the chao, you can only do it once but if u drop an chaos drive or animal about a lenght of a cocounut away you can use it more than once.once i did this all day long my chao's running level went to level 100 and still a baby!by the time it was a dark superchao,everything was level 100 but the stemina.on city escape to get 999 rings,go to level 3(find the lost chao),get as much rings u can an when u get to the big truck part go a little slow an so will the truck.get all the coins possible and when u go to the end instead of goal,it would say back and let u restart.keep doing this until you get 999 rings then get the lost chao.(mystic melody required).since i did this i got 1,015,000 rings know.when you get about 2000000 rings, bye an item that costs 2000000 rings then take the item to any chao garden then save and exit.
go back to chao world and get the item,sell it back to the black market and u will get 5000 rings back then when it says cha ching restert the game.when u go back to chao world,u will still have the item and the 5000 rings you got back.keep doing this as much as u want and u will have lots of rings($.$)!!thats all i have to say.i hope you try.bye bye!o
| Swell | | A gamer from New York, US says (12/Jul/2003): | I played SA2 and was blown away by the incredible music and story. The music was modern and awesome and was better than many songs today. I even bought the soundtrack. The story was great especially Shadows past, but not much of his history is revealed. Of course the reason for my rating is this, the camera angles and voice talents are awful. When your going through a level and the camera shifts you may be looking at a wall for a while, then when the camera goes back to normal you find that you're falling off the edge. And the voices, Sonic sounds like he has a sinus congestion, Shadow sounds like he has a breathing problem, you can barely hear Eggman, and Rouge's voice just doesnt match her. Also, poor lovable Tails has been glued into a clumsy, giant walker. With his running and flying abilties handicapped he is forced to walk around in giant almost immposible stages where it puts shoot em ups games to shame. Trust me, you WILL die at least once. And treasure hunting. In Sonic Adventure DX emerald hunting was fun because it was easy and lively. In SA2 the hunting is dull and hard. In DX Tikal would lead you right to the emeralds, not just give you imposible riddles like the new computers do. In DX the pieces were big and glowy(is that a word?), in SA2 they are small, dont glow, and are nearly invisible, and they move! Especially in one of Rouge's levels, you have to find three keys while this giant bug is trying to kill you. Difficult, but beatable. Also when both hero and dark stories are supposed to connect, they just confuse you. And being timed in some levels doesnt help in beating it faster. And really you will only have fun the first time through, because after you beat it you can zip through it again in a matter of 1 hour. Even with the many flaws this is still one of my favorite games and Sonic is still one of my fav characters.

My favorite part of the game are the chao. And for all you chao lovers out there, here is some advice about your chao's grades (S,A,B,C,D,E; check your chao's grades at the chao doctor located in Chao Kindergarten).
Ok, so, do you want your chao to be the best chao ever? You want your chao to win all of the races and beat up everybody in chao karate? Well in order for your chao to do that, he/she is going to need good grades. Have you noticed those white numbers you see when you pick up your chao and view his levels? For example:
Swim 0263
-----------
Fly 0128
-----------
...etc...
The numbers I'm talking about are ones on the right side of the word 'Swim' (0263), and 'Fly' (0128). Those numbers are crucial in making your chao the fastest or strongest chao, and good grades, such as an S or an A, can help those numbers increase. Here's how the grading system works:
E(worst)- chao's numbers will increase from 11-15
D- chao's numbers will increase from 14-18
C- chao's numbers will increase from 17-21
B- chao's numbers will increase from 20-24
A- chao's numbers will increase from 23-27
S(best)- chao's numbers will increase from 26-30
Notice the difference between 'E' and 'S' in the increase of numbers. That is why it is important to get your chao good grades, because the higher the numbers, the better your chao is. You can improve your chao's grades by evolving your chao into the type of chao you wish to get a better grade in. For example: if you have a chao with an 'E' in running, and you make that chao evolve into a running-type chao, it will have a 'D' in running afterwards. I hope this review was helpful.

| The Best game | | Link from Hyrule says (27/Oct/2003): | Sonic adventure 2 battle is a cool game. The relationshhip between the good side and the bad side is extrodinary. Rouge the bat the jewel theif and knuckles the echidna the protecter of the master emerald have a brilliant relationship, both wanting the peices of the master emerald, both having the same personality, but rouge has a slight crush on knuckles but he does not return it. Eggman and Tails both being techno wizards, both being freinds and enemys of a hedgehog which relates with rouge and knuckles. Sonic and Shadow are alike because they are both hedgehogs, they can both use chaos control, they can both use the chaos emeralds to change into super sonic and hyper shadow. The graphic in the game are very good especially when sonic is running onto the space shuttle and when he is desroying the bottom of the space conoly ark they are brilliant all the characters look brill and all their personalitys are exellent. I mean they are so realistic. The soundtrack in the game is so good the last tune and the intro tune are so good. The last movie is really good. The gameplay is brill but the master emerald levels are hardest. The shooting levels are the easiest. It will last some time if you are not experienced but if you are a good gamer (like me) it will take a little shorter.The fun factor is good especially the choa the game has new choa like choa Karate and choa kindegarden and hero/ dark choa and hero and dark choa garden. It is not as origanal as the old games but is kinda origanal. Its not to expensive either just 39.99 well that is expensive but worth it!! Thanx for reading

You go through the game 'till you get to the part where you go in the "ARK". When you get there jump off and you'll see way down there the same rail but lower. If you land on it you just saved 30 seconds for the rush!!!!! if you are having problems im sorry but theres nothin i can do:(:(
Heres how to get shadow's fire brace. Go to radical highway and when you start the level your on a rail right? just go through the game normally until u see a bomber shoot 1!!!!! bomb at you. When that happens go backwards to see those rolly things. Go under that and then u see a trail of rings. Use light dash on them to get to the other side.(to get light dash complete white jungle) then u see the green thingy and there it is!!!
Ok heres a sonic one. It's called the mystic glove or something. Go on sonic first level (city escape) go all through the level 'till u get to boxes in the ground.(requires bounce bracelet) use the bounce bracelet to break the boxes. remember these are not the normal boxes they are the metal ones not the black ones the white ones. in there there should be 2 bots and a green thingy. you HAVE to kill the bots first because (it happened to me 1 time) if u dont kill them you will get shot and killed before u get the upgrade. ^_^ hoped u thought my helpful hints was grrrrrreat!
i rate this game a 10 out of 10 i think that the chao idea was very intellegent and awsome. Happy Holidays!

Its a shame he dies as he just tunrs good at the end but im glad that they are bringing out sonic hero's as shadow is in it. He looks amazing. This game is the coolest game i have got. It is so addictive like the game sonic dx. 3d platform games like this are the future everything else shouold be a thing of the past. The graphics are so realist and in try to make you believe that characters are real. The enevironments are much better than they were in sonic dx. ( in case your wondering why im refering to sonic dx its because sonic dx was the first sonic game I got for my gamecube). There are so many missions and emblems to find. The game is huge and as welll as that you habe battle mode. I find really cool to be racing say sonic and shadow together. its ace. I take my brother on all the time and its all about skill in them racers. There are so many cool moves like sonic time move were the time slows down because hes going so fast ( note that shadow has other moves ) You can now swing off poles and use air boards and all sorts. Its great. and i know yu might think im sad because Im not really a kid (16) and you'd think this was a kids game but really it can frustrate even the greatest of players ( does anyone out there agree). i think the ratings should be more than 10 so im going to be daft and give it 20 coz its double the rating.

1.(sonic)on the last level,when you are grinding,you will see two platforms(one has a rocket on it.)jump on it,take the rocket,you will land on a platform,then jump on the other two platforms you can see when you land,then use the bumper,then go to the L shaped grind rail,there it is.
2.(tails)on hidden base,(when you feel as if you are breaking lots of pillars at once)you will notice a cased opening,go closer and then metal boxes will cover the opening.breake the boxes open and there it is.
3.(knuckles)go to wild canyon,ride up the wind,and go to the lonly statue.Go above the lonley statue,dig on the picture,there it is.
4.(shadow)keep going up to the top of all the cilenders until you reach one thats top is protected by lasers,jump the lasers and it should be there.
5.(eggman)go to sand ocean,on the very begining,wait till the spinny thing goes all the way arond(i didn't know what to call it)until you see a green light(if you cant see the green light,theres a bommer,you can see the bombs explode)the green light is the mystic melody.
5.(rouge)go to dry lagoon,glide diagnol right to where you started from,there is a picture like the one above the lonley statue,dig and you'll find it.

Like, if u raise a chao with either Shadow or Sonic and constantly give it green chaos drives(NO animals)it will look EXACTLY like the person you raised it with when it evolves. ALSO...when u get all 180 emblems you get the Green Hill Zone in 3D from Sonic the hedgehog 1!^_^ And 1 more thing....at the end of the game....when u see SHadow fall....u think he's dead...right?...He's not....my best guess is that he used Chaos Control. And if u play SOnic Heroes, well, theres proof right there...he was cloned, which means he HAS to be alive because u cannot clone something without havin the original.Well.....thats all i got. PEACE! P.S..... u can do that 1 tip with Shadow and SOnic chao with every1 else....if u want a tails chao....get a yellow or orange egg and give it PURPLE chaos drives with tails.....u want a rouge egg, get a white egg and give it purple as Rouge.Theres a knuckles, Amy, and Tikal 1 too but i forget how to do them. Theres also a super sonic and hyper shadow chao but u need a gold or silver egg which u can only get in the sonic advance garden.theres only 1 more and thats a chaos 0 chao.....it must reincarnate twice(or three times i dont know...go to cheatplanet.com, it will tell u there)...then give it 1 of every animal...it will evolve and be CHAOS!

I have all the games except Sonic Heroes, but Sonic Adventure 2 is the best! graphics and sound are great! The best thing though... is the chao. They are so cute (although I'm not a huge fan of chao with wide smiles unless they are dark). There has been debate on how to really get a chaos chao. This is the true way to get a chaos chao (beleive me, I have 2 chaos chao, and 4 of my chao are about to evolve into them). Let your chao reincarnate TWICE. Right after it haches from the egg, collect all 21 animals, one of each and NO MORE. Make sure you don't feed your chao 2 of any animal, and DON'T GIVE IT CHAOS DRIVES. After the animals, go get a hero fruit if you want hero, a dark fruit if you want dark, and a chao fruit if you want neutral. Pet it with your character until its looks match with the fruit you gave it(gave it a dark fruit-pet it with shadow or rouge). now all you have to do is wait for it to evolve, just remember not to give it any more animals or chaos drives. feeding your chao normal nuts is okay, but no second helpings of dark fruit, hero fruit, or chao fruit. If you did all this correctly, when the coon is fading away, a somewhat creepy organ music will play. Don't get confused. the music plays when the cocoon is leaving, not when it is formed.
| This game must have came from heaven | | Bryan Arivett from Davenport, Iowa USA says (11/May/2004): | This game rocks I used to hate sonic i thought he was so stupid but then my friend brought over Sonic adventure 2 battle and i loved it so i bought it and now i have sonic heros, Sonic Mega collection i also want to get sonic dx but even after i got Sonic heros i still love sonic adventue 2 battle way more and for all of those who can't get past rouges 5 min. level and couldnt get past it either but i kept trying and i past it know i can get past it with an A grade so keep trying. I might sound like other people but shadows the best so is knuckles. well knuckles likes rouge and rouge likes knuckles so whens the wedding. huh all they ever do is talk come on rouge put on a wedding dress and get the big ring on your hand. It can kinda get annoying when they just look at each other. I always feel kinda sad how shadow saves the world and dissappears but hes not dead because the ultimate life form can't die so i hope they make a game where shadow comes back i'd buy it the second it came out. Also when rouge falls and knuckles saves her his excuse is "I was just saving the master emerald" thats not true because the master enerald cant be burnd up by lava knuckles could have let her die the took the enerald so that proves that he loves her. I give this game a ten its the best.

Just listening to Knuckles and the theme song for Shadow. MY favorite character, Shadow and Knuckles. I think the easiest part was FInal Hazard when you had to use Super Shadow and Super Sonic. Hardest i'll say the Cannon's Core where you use all 5 characters it's SOO hard. Anyways if you wanan bea the game have LOTS of lives with ya.

I say this game is one of the best i have played. I still want to know what happened to Shadow. I beat it in a week but it was soo exciting! My friend turned me on to Sonic by the way. I give it a 9. The camera angle's and the voices sucked but the main plot and suspense it was truly great. The Hero Side i found was harder to beat. Kncukles levels are easier then Rouge btw. Why is Tails stuck in the Tornado? Anything you need to know about the game ask!I Know how to make A Knuckles Chao and Shadow and Sonic Chao almost EVERY chao. The chaos are my favorite part. Chao Karate was a great great plus!

The graphics and sound are cool! I walk around school with... pyramid cave music or somthing stuck in my head. It is the best game ever. I esspetially love the chao! They are so cute I could kiss them. one of my chao, however, was the best ever! His name is Cashie. Cashie is a transulant shiny blue chao. I gave him 99 in all stats but stamina!! That's damet hard! Cashie had a 57 in stamina. If you want to make a stronger super chao, just give it a 98 in stamina, if you give it a 99, chao will DIE!!!!! I have heard rumor about 99 in EVERYTHING chao die NO MATTER WHAT!!!!( unless they are immortal chaos chao,that is).
I have also heard rumor about 2nd evaluation... well it's true!!!! I tried it my self!! My chao Asia is a neutral power-swim type! you have to try it, it makes chao very cool!!
