The death of the James Bond series. | | Alexander Green from USA says (5/Jul/2003): | THe game starts up with the familiar bond theme and a snazzy intro made from game clips. Obviously meant to lure the player into thinking the game is soo good that it could stand its own as a movie. Yeah Right. First things first, the presentation. The Graphics are fairly accurate, albeit simplistic. Unreal Tournament it is not. The games sound is also fine however the voice acting is dry and Bond does not sound like Bond (nor does R or M for that matter, well maybe M).
The gameplay is ok, but in need of serious tweaking. The sniper controls are unitiutive and the control layouts can not be customized, simply selected from a pre set list. The gun physics are whacked, the weapon accuracy varies from weapon to weapon, but I refuse to believe that Bond is such a lousy shot. And bullets take almost 2 second to fly across a room, and even if it its, you still have to fire like 30 more to actually kill anything. The AI is also unforgivably bad.
And now, the single player Campaign. At only 12 levels I beat it in a day, or rather I would have had the game not bugged out on me every other mission. At one point in mission 6 I believe, I had accomplished a mission objective (enter some secret lab or whatnot) and the game restarted the level on me! And the story is ultimatly ridiculous! Ok, so an evil company (Im assuming they work in Biogenetics) is making clones of world leaders (sound alot like Perfect Dark to me). And these evil clones are involuntarily evil, have unquestionable loyalty to the evil Malprave (generic evil chick) and Blochman (generic Evil righthand man), and are cloned as adults with all the knowladge of there host material, and are cloned with guns and armor (as depicted in level 10, or 9 something like that)? Riiiiight that makes perfect sense. and in the last level you have to rescue the US President the UK Prime Minister among others, however, after rescuing them you leave them standing right next to Armed MIssles! And of course at the end of the game the missles explode as you leap of to safety. Um..what about the world leaders? Yeah, theyre left to die. Hmmm.... good one 007.
And last and probably least, is the multiplayer. Despite a wide range of multi options the drab levels, boring weapons, useless power ups and awkward controls kill any joy it could have had. What a waiste of a good franchise. In its merits, the game is funny to laugh your ass of to (unintentially of course), just so long as you arent paying for it.
| electronic arts in: in over their heads | | danny irizarry from fort worth TX says (21/Jun/2002): | there is no doubt that the king of 007 games is golden eye, no matter how many grate games come out starring bond that will be the legend. sure they may be better but goldeneye was the one that started it all, its the inovator, the main event, the icon. wiff that said, i must say agent under fire SUX....after a few hours that is. first of all, the name really doesnt fit the bond style, but who cares, i just had to get it off my chest. now there certanly is a lot of bond shtuff in the game but it gets annoting when ur playing and all of a sudden a short video sequence pops up and bond goes "mmmm fire works" gets in my nerves after i played the level 10 times. also the game is extremely short, i finished the game and i was like....what?...is the game stuck? also there is no ending just a stupid spoiler thingy telling what all the "bond" moves are. one thing that really got in my nerves was the guns. u shoot ur 6 bullet wolfram or whatever it is they are calling the P99 these days and u can see the bullets flying at 5 mph, ive seen paintballs go faster than that. and when u hit ur oponents they dont react like in goldeneye, they just go "ouch" and dont stop firing, u shoot their heads and they go "ouch" but its no wonder why they go "ouch" since ur shooting lil bullets that look like rubber at 5 mph. u have almost no control over the action unlike goldeneye where u could shoot the nearest oponent on his hand and he would stop firing and go "EEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" instead of "ouch" and u could then take care of the rest of ur oponents while hes busy feeling pain. in fact the action in "goldeneye" is so much better that "under fire" i used to do lil jhon woo like action sequences in the train level hiding behing doors and shooting with 2 guns in hand shoothing in front and behing with a skill i was able to master with the doors when i was surrounded. in "under fire" u just shoot and watch them go "ouch" as they kill u. but its ok, no game is good enough for bond, we all know "the world is not enough" ;)
| This game is particular | | Mark from Montreal Qc,Canada says (30/Oct/2002): | I bought the game friday,I was really feeling the game when I saw the demo video on the internet and the previews on tv.From what I`ve read you guys are right the game is way too short because my younger brother reached the sixth level in a short time.If he would have played longer he would have finished the game already.I agree with you people about Golden Eye,it had more competition, you were more into it.I`ve always been a fan of James Bond but Golden Eye is a classic and Agent under fire won`t beat it.The graphics are good, the mini-movies are cool, the details are brilliant. The cars are really oustanding. When you drive these vehicules you can feel the vibe and the speed factor.Only a few things don`t make sense, when you shoot a guy there is no blood, and it takes a lot of bullets to kill someone that is weird. The weapons in general are good I really like the gun with the blue beam in it.That thing he throws in the air like a spider web is original. The storyline is well based. The sounds are realistic, like when you shoot with a gun it sounds like a real gun and you can feel the control pad shaking. The sound in general is incredible. And that is kind of stupid in a certain sense to use the yellow joystick to aim at the enemies,in Golden Eye the gun was auto-aiming now you have to aim by yourself.I`d still recommend this game if you`re a big fan of James Bond because the game is worth buying it`s just that it`s better to borrow it first but you can always buy if you prefer to do so.I like playing this game even tough my brothers play this game more than i do.Oh one last thing the multiplayers is a waste of time.I mean you really get bored after an hour max.The game is full of action and don`t hesitate to buy it if you want to experience the game.
| Why I liked this game. | | A gamer from Lexington,Kentucky says (16/Nov/2002): | I think that this is a great game for kids that have parents that don't want their kid to be playing a gory and gruesome game. In my opinion, there is no point of those games and you pay like 50 bucks to see blood and kill innocent people. In this game you don't kill innocent people because in one level you can only use a dart gun so that you make sure that you don't kill a single innocent person. The only other people you kill are the ones that are shooting at you which at least isn't killing out of cold blood. This game is awesome. I really enjoyed playing this game because it is fun and you get to use grenade launchers and a sniper gun called the suise4000. In my opinion, the suise4000 is the best gun in the whole game. Just because it is a very powerful gun and you can shoot someone from a long distance away. Also, you don't have to reload it after every single shot. Which, in my opinion, is a really nice. because if you shoot and miss you can shot again instead of them running off because they heard or saw the bullet go right by them. If you are looking for a higher power gun there is always a frinesi12. Which is like a twelve gauge shotgun. My favorite person in the game is the identification guard mainly because he looks really cool and he is a good person in multiplayer. This game is good for another reason because it has really good graphics. Two of my favorite levels are the second level and the third level. I like the second level because there is a person in the car driving it that you had to save in the first level. And you had to shoot at helicopters and and cars that were triing to blow your car up. I like the third level because you are driving a car that has missiles, rockets, q-boost, and q-pulse.
| Another stab at a shooter that failed miserably | | Tom Brookes from Worcester, England says (21/Apr/2003): | James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire (for the Ps2, Xbox and Gamecube) is just another shooter that fails to meet my expectations. This game does have above average graphics, good sound, great imitations of the characters' voices and lots of gadgets, but sadly, these things cannot please me on their own. The worst thing about the single player mode was the terrible AI and the unfair gameplay. It can take up to 30 bullets to kill one person, but what is worse is the AI. Let me give you an example of how bad this topic is: I was playing the 2nd last level (out of the 12 levels, which is not good) and a gurad comes at me with his gun blazing (though he never runs out of ammunition) and is so clumsy that he walks behind a door. As I am still close to him (but protected by the door), he continues firing into the door. I stood there for minutes, waiting for him to stop, but he never did.
The second problem was the music and sound. Though I stated above that this game had good sound, I was talking about the main gun sounds and voices. The music and other sound effects are very poor, to be truthful. Another problem was the awful multiplayer. All multiplayer levels are boring and lack any secret passages or fun. This was also a problem with the single player, as all the levels were drab and did not allow for any form of exploration. Overall, the poor controls, linear battle system, average graphics, poor music, lack of levels and drab gamepay add up to an average game. I guess it will only last you a month because it is so frustrating and boring that it is not worth the $70. No not waste you money and buy Medal of Honour: Frontline instead, or if you have an Xbox, Halo.
| Great Game For A Beginner | | Denice from California, USA says (10/Aug/2003): | I have read all the previous reviews and I can agree and disagree with some. First of all, I'm new at this, I just bought a PS 2 (Yeah, I know PS 3 will probably be out next year). However, this is my first shooting game, and I LOVE IT!Those of you who beat the game in one day DO YOU HAVE A JOB? If not, I hope you are teens. Anyway let me give you my pros and cons. Pros: I love the graphics, weapons/gadgets and story line. Cons: It takes too long to load, too many shots to kill somebody, and I get confused switching between gadgets and weapons. Sometimes, I would be looking for the weapon and end up with a gadget. Some levels are two short, while others drag on. (I wish you could save a level, especially a long one when you're almost thorugh it.) The controls are pretty easy to use, unless you stress out like I do; when you're getting shot at, and I guess unless I buy the book I may be stuck on level "12" (where I am now) forever, because I can't figure out how to kill this guy. Anyway, who knows, by next week I will either break down and buy the book, or threaten my son to beat the game for me. All in all, I give the game a "8" taking away from the slow exchange between weapons and gadets. I think this is a good game for beginners, like myself, because there is some difficulty to the game. And, this is good practice for when you move up to the games that require better accuaracy. Those of you who have experienced the "Medal of Honors" type games or are true gamers, probably can't appreciate the simplicity of this game. Anyway, I will look forward to the other Bond games, because I just love a challenge.
| Bond's greatest foe yet... boredom | | A gamer from Chicago, USA says (27/Nov/2002): | I bought this game excited to take bond through another set of harrowing and life-threatening levels. I instead found a game with good graphics, and at best, poor controls. With 12 levels, it is difficult not to tear through the game in one day. But what about the 007 ratings you might ask? Nonsense. They are a poor excuse to extend the game's replayability. I have nothing against the occasional egg in a game, but these are just stupid. Things like shooting a barrel with your X-Ray glasses on? Why is that Bondesque? The simple answer is that it isn't. If you want to make the game harder, adjust the AI, make the bullets do more damage... have the hostages actually be in trouble... if you want to have me better enjoy a gas station blowing up, give me a cut scene of it, but this medal stuff is just painful.
Gadgets: They are an excellent idea, hard to use, and not very applicable. Beyond being required to beat the game, they are not very imaginative and slow to switch between. The story line of the game probably leaves me with the worst taste in my mouth. So you end up flying away on a jet... and then? Nothing, that is the end. Congratulations you just beat the game?! What about the bond cut scene or perhaps something that doesn't suck? EA spent too much time focusing on the driving and the nice graphics, and not enough actually thinking about the game. I gave the game three stars for the driving levels, two for the graphics, one for the guns and gadgets, and took them all back for the crap story, dumb bond move nonsense, and aweful control layout. Don't bother buying what you can just rent.
| Not up to my expectations. Overall: Decent | | Game Master from city, state, country says (26/Jun/2003): | Pros:
1) Graphics
2) Storyline
3) Cool gadgets (especially the Q-Claw.)
4) Awesome Power-Ups. I especially like the Armor and Cloak power-ups.
Cons:
1) not many levels
2) Golden gun sucks. The difference between the golden gun and the normal P2K is that the Golden gun is gold. Gold bullets do not do much. Might as well use Viper for all I care... Also, the ammount of effort for such a worthless gun and its accessories is just aweful.
3) There are NO AIs in multiplayer. I appreciate the old bond games where human players can team up against AI players.
4) Gold Armor. There is very little difference between gold armor and normal armor. The only real difference is that one is gold, the other is not.
5) Regenerative armor: Only regerates when your armor is extremely low, and regerates LESS than 1/4 of your entire health back! Completely useless in extreme firefights.
6) The multiplayer levels are tiny, and the Pulse-Cannon is horrible. *note* only use the Pulse-Cannon at LONG range, or else you will kill yourself. Not only that, the Pulse-Cannon has detonated on me when the pulse had not hit anything!
7) I have had grenades not detonate at all
8) When a person shoots a rocket or any explosive at Pt-blank, only the victim is hurt/killed. Shouldn't both people die?
| A great game! | | Andres from Toluca,Mexico. says (26/Sep/2002): | This game is a very good one! If you ask me,i think it gets a nine: The game has very nice graphics: The graphics in this are very detailed and i think that is very important.Sometimes you have very good games but whith bad graphics, so thats why the game gets at least a star. The sound is unbelivable! When you shoot your gun you get a relly neat sound, and don´t forget the sound of the engines of the cars. A great game whith a great sound deserves two stars. The gameplay is smooth: If you are used to golden eye and the nintendo 64 controller, you might find the gameplay a bit auckward at first, but after a a day or two of gameplay you will get used to it. The gameplay deserves three stars. seriously!: The game is pure fun! If you considered buying the game; buy it! James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire (for gamecube) has it all. When you play the game you feel pure fun. the only missing element is that i´ve played better games and since it is quite short, it doesn´t get a 10, nevertheless it still earns 3 more stars( because of the fun factor) so,that makes a total of nine stars.
| The goose that beat Bond! | | §Päy the Män§ from Conwy, North Wales says (3/Jan/2003): | WTF!!! the game is S*** really, i mean the mulitplayer is the best part of it... I love playin the escourt level... but still its only fun coz i get to kick the S*** out ma m8... the actual game play is poor, I agree with the otha ppl, its a boring story line and its got to many damn cut scenes... the graphics of the game are sketchy... the roads are blocky and so are the buildings... ok so u get some round pipes etc... and the ppl... did EA enjoy playin with dolls at break time or somin... very unrealistic... and the game lenght is well short... I 1st played the game at 4ish pm and was finished by about 9 or 10... i cudn't really find a challenge in the game either... it was too easy... even on 00agent.... the golden eye 00agent was almost impossible on some levels... i'll give it some points for the mulitplayer... coz it is fun... wish u cud have more bots though... on Jedi Knight 2 u get 10 bots... and 2 players... it gets a couple of points for the cars levels 2... but its is a pretty S*** game when it gets down to it.
| Great Game! | | A gamer from OH says (11/Aug/2003): | O.K. I'll admit that 12 levels is alittle short, and that the guns don't do that much damage, but what do you expect? Absolute perfection? If so, here's what you can do... get off your fat lazy butt, stop complaining about other's games, and make your own!
Anyways I think this game is great. The graphics are excellent, the guns, when they're fired, actually sound like guns, the sound is good (although I'd like to know how to make the enemies stop saying stuff like "You're a dead man, Bond!"), and I like being able to blow up gas stations and other inflammable objects. The story line is good to. In GTA Vice City, the story line is crappy at best. Some guys took Sonny's money and you gotta get it back. "What!? That's it!?" That was my reaction.
All you guys who said it was to easy, you all play to much video games and not enough time hitting the books. Know how I can tell? becos you gramer an speling is atroshus! In short, this exceded my expectations and makes for a good play!
| bond is not bond | | neogeo from Toronto, Canada says (18/Apr/2002): | Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. This game is beautiful but simple. I am a huge bond game fan, i mean i have all the bond games and from my point of view nothing is better than goldeneye. This is a totally new thing for bond games and bid ups tho the creators for bringing new things to bond but did not really work all that well this time mostly because i think the story is really bad and does not really add up, maybe it's just me. This game is way to short i mean it feels like you started for the middle of the game and you don't know what's going on. Anyway the bottom line is you will finish this game in 10hrs max if you could sit there that long straight and if you are a pro you will finish it in probably 5hrs. So in conclusion this is a perfect game to rent and you will get bored of the multiplayer pretty soon. The only reason you should get this game is if you like to collect Bond games like me. Thank you .
| not to shabby | | A gamer from abuja says (4/Jan/2003): | the game was ok but the short game play is annoying and the clone thing is not good i mean how are you supposed to know
who's the real zoe like for instence how do you know that the one in the first level is real intill you go to 9 level but graphisme is ok but why teen no blood and the gagets i mean a cell phone and i bought the game and am at the last level in 2 days and the bloch i killed is a clone big wow . the guns are ok except that the calypso pissed me off it's a good gun that you use once and the sniper one guy dies with one shot but the other don't and what happend to super clone? the sounds good but those bond moves are stupid and the hostage get killed with two shots not one so rent the game don't buy it i hope nightfire better but if you a james bond fan try it compare to golden eye but p2k is a very good gun but not enogh rounds i prefer the shoot and run but it's a good so i awared it a 5
| very good | | McKenna from Kearney, Nebraska says (9/Apr/2002): | I was just getting into the game and it was over. The gameplay was just what I had expected very good. The sound and depth of the virtural world Bond inhabits in this title are stunning. With a quality surround sound system this game is emersive and we all like that! However as I said it was all over too soon! Thank God for the multi-player option. This will keep you laughing and destroying the confidence of you closest friends for hours. The V.I.P area is a really neat twist to the traditional "shoot em'up" areas we are used to in the 007 games. This area allows you to go head to head with a friend and protect the innocent. You are divided by a train track that allows a train to drop off a V.I.P that you are tasked with protecting or assinating. This makes for alot of fun with the sniper rifles. As your opponent lines up for the (v.i.p.) kill you are able to catch him/her off guard and good night Irene!
| Review for Agent Under Fire | | Jeff from Cincinnati, USA says (26/Jun/2002): | hey gamers, Im Jeff. Anyway, this Bond game is pretty good but still nothing compared to Goldeneye. What I think of this game is that it could use more levels and complex puzzles. That's a point took away. My favorite feature in this game is the cars because they look so good and I actually have an car like Lotus Espirt! Anyway, that doesn't earn a star. The worst part of this game was the lack of complexity and the multiplayer. That loses 2 stars. The absence of blood and mortal peril in this game might appeal to parents but to me, that loses 1 star. Now on to the good features. The storyline is a very good one which desevres a star. The creativy of the weapons and gadgets is fair and earns a star. That's about it. Anyway, in conclusion, this game is a must-borrow. That's right, borrow it. You should only play it for 5 minutes or so to see if it appeals to you. If it does, buy it.
| The game blew Huge NUTS | | AGENT UNDER FIRE SUX from Virginia USA says (25/Apr/2003): | i would have given this game a BIG FAT 0 but that option was not giving to me by the fine people who make this web site , the game lacks the gun power for one , i mean have you tried to shoot the shot gun it takes MAD long to pull off rapid shots and it miss fires , not to mention i've thrown grenades and they went through walls or did not explode , the sound isnt that horrible but i still would rather listen to cats fighting , the graphics are better then i thought they would be concidering they never worked on 007 game graphics that much when they disigned it . AND WHO IN THE HELL THOUGHT 12 LEVELS IS ENOUGH , 12 levels i can beat in under 10 minutes , look over all DO NOT BUY this game go get splinter cell or something , i've played videon games for a long time and i never thought i would be this disappointed with a new generation game
| Some Good, Some Bad | | Stefan from Vancouver, B.C. says (20/Aug/2002): | Well, This is my review for agent under fire. It is a great game if you are looking for good graphics and neat guns and gadgets. But if you are looking for an easy game to beat don't get this one. If you are a cheater like me this will probably be a disappointment to you if you have a gamecube. The absence of button codes on the gamecube version is a downer. But then again, since there wasn't button codes for goldeneye for a long time this is probably gonna be the same story. I'm still lookin for button codes for perfect dark for n64. If you know any e-mail me. Anyway, the graphics, guns and gadgets give this game a good score of 7, but the absence of button cheats sucks. I hate havin to successfully beat levels in certain times with a certain score to get cheats. Then it's not called cheating anymore is it?!
| Good graphics, yet the control style and game rewards are no goldeneye | | BORRIS from Austin TX. us says (25/Mar/2002): | This game is decent at best, the graphics are excellent but the storyline is weak, the control style is so so and the finishing rewards are nothing like goldeneye, there more like TWINE. There are not enough levels and the all around difficulty is pretty sorry this game was way to easy to beat For Dennis, and any one eles who is not aware, this game IS NOT a preview to the new Bond film due in November, it is the first 007 game not molded after one of the films. Die another day is the title for the upcoming 007 film and is no way related to this game! however this game is fare better than TWINE and tomorrow never dies so I give it a score of 7
| All that for NOTHING !!! | | Joe from Dearborn, MI says (30/Dec/2003): | This game seemed to be prety cool. graphics were good, sound was good. It was great everytime I completed a level. When I got stuck, my son took over. We all know how kids are, they can beat ANY GAME...so...when he finally beats the game....it doesn't do ANYTHING !!! We thought something was wrong with the game, or we missed something. So, he played it over and over and over trying to figure out why he could not go on to the next level. Nothing fancy, the same old..."mission or objective complete". What happened to saving the world...I rate the ending a "0" !!!
| BAD | | Lester Gibbons from St. Peter's Bay Canada says (11/Mar/2003): | This game bites hard!the Gameplay sucks, the graphics suck, and the multiplayer blows. You can pretty much beat the damn game without shootina gun. Which reminds me...the guns suck. You have to shoot at some body 40 times before the damn bullet will hit what u are aiming at.What were they thinking when they did the layout for the game because it blows. You can't even tell what stages u beat on what level. The new addition of the medals is just frieking bull$#< remove me > at !.I hate this game with a PASSION!Bring back a new addition of goldeneye and i'll be happy.
