Whrer do i start

mat from toronto says (14/Oct/2002):
General/Summary: Where do I start? I realize that in the gaming industry there are certain deadlines that have to be met in order to have the game on the store shelves on the given release. From what I understand, this game had a very short production time from start to finish. But how in the world does it make sense to build a new wrestling game from the ground up and expect for it to be a decent game in such a limited production time? What DOES make sense to me is sticking with what works, and with this type of game(wrestling), people want more features added to this game they played to death up until the sequel comes out, right? So why wasn't AKI used to make this game? Wouldn't have made sense to bring in the already made game engine, plop on the next-generation graphics, add some more match types, add some more situational moves, expand on the CAW, expand on the well done storyline mode from the previous game, expand the number of wrestlers in the ring at the same time (which in turn creates more game modes), up the production value, and address any request your LOYAL wrestling game fans have been clamoring for. But what do I know, I don't work for THQ, I don't look at the THQ wrestling fans money paying idiots that will buy anything with a WWE logo on it, I don't release a game for the sake of captilizing on a license, I don't crush the hopes of the millions of people who bought the last *good* game they made buy ignoring or requests.
Gameplay: One match in this game had me convinced that I no longer wanted to buy a THQ WWE game before I rent it first. The matches flow really unevenly. Most matches consist of just throwing a flurry of attacks until the cpu reverses on then try a front or back grapple. Also for some reason Yukes decided to only allow 5 front grapples and 5 back grapples not including the specials. For those who you who don't have a problem with this then have fun watching Stone Cold rake the eyes, knee the stomach, spine buster, body slam, and shoulder smash twice, and then go for the pin and realize that all those moves were only good for a 1 count and do it all over again. Talk about deep gameplay!! Then if you get bored with that throw someone into the turnbuckles and do 2 moves available for that, and 5 for the back grapple. Watch in amazement as every match you have starts to look like the one you just had!! And then get angry as you go for the pedigree on Kurt Angle and RVD stomps Edge who is right near you and for some reason the pedigree is broken up and you lose that special! Have fun going through all those grapples for the next hours getting another special!

Sound like fun yet? Well try to pick up a weapon when your near the ring ropes, guess what instead of picking up the weapon you just exited the ring! and whats even better is that now your opponent has the weapon because you wasted time getting the weapon! Still want some more fun? Then why not try out the path of the Champions and if you chose HHH then you could even maybe Main Event Wrestlemania X-8 against Scotty Too Hotty in an exhibition match which could lead for a hardcore championship title match on Smackdown, good thing that match is not a hardcore match or it might make sense even to someone with a B/A of.2. Now thats what I call a career mode, not, this is just plain insulting.

Still want more, then realize that this game is a complete joke and waste of my and eveyone elses money who bought it on the notion that it was the real successor to No Mercy.

I think if the WWE wants to be treated like a sport and entertainment then why can't THQ realize this and entertain its fans with a quality WWE game. If you wanna throw away a highly respected game engine that with some tweaks and additions could only have gotten even more respected, then go ahead. Let me ask you this THQ, do you think John Madden football would be the #1 selling football game on the planet for soooo long by jerking the fans around and changing the game engine right when it was starting to get good? Shouldn't a next generation title feel deeper in terms of gameplay like most sport game sequels do from system to system?

All I want from THQ is a an apology in the terms of the real sequel to No Mercy and stop filling us full of lies about how good its gonna be and let the game itself be as good as it could be and shut us disgruntled fans up ( and by the way I'm sure a lot of fans share my opinion).

Also since when is it that a next generation game cannot include an updated and complete roster is beyond me. Now if World Series baseball can include almost 650+ players in it I don't think it's too much to ask for a complete roster of 50+ wrestlers, and most important ones too. It boggles the mind.

Graphics: I can't complain about much in terms of graphics. The texturing and the wrestling models look like I would have imagined for a sequel to No Mercy, a more cartoonish look. But the awkard animations for some of the moves, the unrealistic jerky move transitions (WWF RAW had it right), and how some wrestlers just don't look right (Jeff Hardy is a wrestler but not all wrestlers have big muscles, just watch a WWE show). Besides that I wouldn't hold the graphics against the game at all.

Sound: Weird sounding crowd noises, mediocre Menu and gameplay background music, Some licensed WWE themes (Trish Stratus, Hardy Boys, Booker T, Ric Flair) for some reason didn't make it in so what we the fans get is really bad replacment music instead of the real thing (another insulting fact about this game). If its gets bad turn the music off and by music I mean background and crowd noise and see how much fun this game is.

So if you need your wrestling fix break out the N64 and No Mercy and forget about what could have been, and remember to rent before you buy.

Recommended strictly as a rental or 2 but not a buy.

This maybe the BIGGEST letdown of 2002!7859

Kevin "eXtremist" Morris from Bluefield, WV says (15/Jun/2002):
Wrestlemania X8 was highly anticipated, but fails to capture the gold. For starters the graphics will make you feel as if you are watching well a very pretty video game. Personally I think THQ was trying to fool you into thinking this was the WWF No Mercy of the Gamecube. The details could have been push a little better on each wrestlers face, but the sets look as good as anyone could have expected. Everything from Wrestlermania X8 to the classic Smackdown sets are on this game. Next the entrances are a close to TV fit too. Jericho, Triple H, The Rock, Stone Cold, the developers worked their magic well on them, but once again the let downs came as the fake music plays for the nWo, Booker T, and The Hardy Boyz. At least the titan tron video is clean as can be. And what about the sound, well I guess it was to hard to fit cheers into the game. Also JR and King might be ringside but all you get to hear is pathic background music. Now the create-a-wrestler mode has taken about two giant leaps backwards. It impossible to make someone that isn't already a WWE superstar. The faces reflect anyone from Crash Holly to Mankind. Everything is very basic and bland feeling in the create-a-wreslter. Don't waste your time in it unless you want to make DDP, Catus Jack, HBK, old WWF stars etc.
After fooling around with all that you might decide to play a match. Next you'll notice that only 40% of the current WWE talent is on the roster. You're not going to find Billy and Chucky, Brock Lesner, Paul Heyman, Al Snow, Maven, and other choice superstars. On a lighter note you can unlock Rhyno, Ric Flair, Chris Beniot, even Vinny Mac himself. Next you're going to be happy because they have any match you would ever want. Hell in the Cell, TLC, Ladder, Hardcore, ect, but once again there is not Buried Alive match and they also scraped the Casket match. I found the Royal Rumble to be lame because only 4 people could be in the ring. That sucks! The game play could also have not been more basic. Push A do a grapple move. I think you get 5 grapple moves. Speical move are also pulled off with a press of A+B. One thing I miss is the instant replay after big moves. Is it just me or would you love to see The Hurricane take out Molly with The Eye of the Hurricane a couple time because off how she won the hardcore belt at Wrestlemania X8. Speaking of Hardcore matches where did Yukes put the backstage areas. Hardcore isn't the same without a good backstage match. Wrestlemania X8 also lacks a season mode. No storylines equals a very low replay value once you beat Path of Champions if you can get into playing it at all. Fianlly to wrap it all up I would like to say if you're craving a wrestling game with a newer roster and a nice look here you go, but otherwise as The Hurricane might say "STAND BACK" this game is not for you!

WHY WHY WHY Did this game come out i had high hopes for it.10242

THQ listen to your fans because i am a big fan from Toronto says (12/Oct/2002):
I went to buy this game thinking its like no mercy yah right ha ha ha this is the worst game to ever hit the market. At first i tought it was funny but going through this game its not i mean no story mode why no mercy had a good story mode why dident they keep the good work up i mean for example wrestlemania 2000 to me it was good for the time then to wwf no mercy it was improved and everything on to this crap.Wheres aki when you need them and one thing that was realy sad was the poor create a wrestler somebody online on a game site before i got this game said the CAW was going to be better then the other games out yeah right you want to try this piece of crap. Why did they call it a create a wrestler that alone gives the name create a wrestler a bad name. You would think they would keep up from no mercy.NO shop zone no story mode and you cant edit the wrestlers in the game i mean when you are finish trying all the modes in the game and the matchs the game is good for garbage.Dont get me wrong ther is a updated roster with Booker T Rob Van Dam Lance Storm and many more and new match typs with good graphics but whats good graphics with out fun facter the moves has to be the most boring things like in smackdown 4 shut your mouth the 5 star frog splash when its connected you do a flip and a taunt then atomadicly pins why not for gamecube owner in wrestlemania x8 the 5 star frog splash is crap the when you hit it on someone that someone gets up before you like noting happen. The gameplay is not good and fun at all they say that its like smackdown 3 just bring it yeah right just bring it the moves are more exciting.I loved wwf no mercy that game kept me for a years this game kept me a month. The only thing they hade to do was keep no mercy make the gaphics better make it updated with the new wrestlers change around the story mode make the entrance videos look real like in just bring it smackdown 3 make it more anamated make the moves more funner put more moves.Put full entrances and more real that would be a good game.As for wrestlemania x8 THQ i want my money back and wrestlemania x8 has turn me off realy bad THQ not everyone has ps2 and thats all i have to say save your money or rent it

Stop your complaining! This game rocks!12454

Travis Arquitt from Brasher Falls, New York says (6/Dec/2002):
This is for everyone that is moaning and growning about how bad Wrestle Mania X8 is! It doesn't suck this game rocks! The graphics are the best I've ever seen! (Better than any Smackdown game's graphics)So the Create-A-Wrestler Mode isn't that great people need to make due with what they have! As for new wrestlers the game has a lot of new wrestlers like The NWO,Ric Flair,Booker T,and RVD. THQ tried it's hardest to make what they thought would be the best wresting game out. As for No Mercy that game was good but the intros and titan tron sucked! Wrestlers and the moves were so horribly fake looking it scared me! The matches in Wrestle Mania X8 are incredibly awesome! Hell in a Cell, TLC, Hardcore Match, they all rock! And season mode that could be better but Smackdown 2's season mode took like 30 minutes just to finish 1 event! First you had to wait for the other people to finish their matchs and then there is the pointless and endless loading time! I think people exspected way too much of Wrestle Mania X8 that the antisipation ruined the game for themselves. Hey in Wrestle Mania X8 you can wrestle up to 4 people all at once in a Hell in a Cell Match what other game can you wrestle 4 people in a Hell in a Cell (Definitly NOT Smackdown 3 or 4) Also you can play with 3 of your friends all at once! The originality of having your own belt is wicked sweet! So what like 3 wrestlers don't have their original music! At least Dead Man INC has his real music, finally! In No Mercy half the wrestlers didn't have music! If you don't like Wrestle Mania X8 then why don't you go dust off your ancient N64's and prehistoric PS1 and play some of those garbage games! You people that insult Wrestle Mania X8 wouldn't know a good wrestling if it slapped you people in the face! The reason I rated Wrestle Mania X8 a 10 is because their is no better wrestling out right now. So if you people don't like it don't play the game and you can go back to playing the other Wrestle Mania X8 wanna-b games (No Mercy,Smackdown 3 and 4,and Raw)for those who don't know! So quit your complaining and just play the game!

Review on Wrestlmania x8 by Sniper898660

Colin Van Dyke from Chesapeake, Virginia, USA says (24/Jul/2002):
Several aspects of this game were among the best I've ever seen. On the other hand, some need improvement. On the downside, some of the music in this game was not correct( e.g. Tajiri, NwO, Trish Stratus, Nature Boy Ric Flair.) It also would have been nice if they had added a few extra people like Sean Michaels, X-Pac, Gold Dust, Spike Dudley, Eddie Guerrero, Tommy Dreamer, Chris Nowinski, and maybe Jamie Noble. It also would have been cool if Hogan had had his current music. They could also have updated the game as new wrestlers joined the WWE like Brock Lesnar. Also, I don't think they gave us enough options in the Create a Superstar mode. For instance, I tried to make a current wrestler of Hulk Hogan, with the Hulkamania shirt and everything, and when I went for the Hulkamania logo to put on his shirt, I couldn't find it. Being as he is my favorite wrestler, this upset me. Also, some of the faces of the wrestlers were a bit jacked up. The Rock didn't look like The Rock on bit, and Trish was unrecognizable. On the upside, the graphics were extremely good in my opinion. The music that was correct was fun to listen to. The gameplay was OK. Frankly, I think they need to put in more moves for each wrestler (Ex: Icouldn't figure ut how to do the Ankle Lock with Kurt Angle. Also, these people just won't tap out!) I felt that the lifespan was good. It took a while for me to have problems getting up. This game is also extremely fun. The Battle for the Belts had me occupied for DAYS! I feel the originality isgood what with all the meters like adrenaline, spirit, and how many special attacks you could do (Ithought there should have been more.) The fact that when you win a title with a character that you made you get ten creation points is also a plus. With hat, I found it easy to make the best wrestler in the game. Overall, I think this game is a good buy for anyone who likes to invite friends over to play in multilayer mode, or anyone who likes layin' da smack down on Y2J.

Solid game, but doesn't live up to expectations.8657

A gamer says (24/Jul/2002):
So here's how it goes. THQ makes great games for the Nintendo 64... Wrestlemaina 2000, and No Mercy. They put detail into the create a wrestler, the use of weapons, the backstage are and the wrestlers themselves. I was a huge fan and bought Wrestlemania X8 without question. I like to make myself in create-a-wrestler but decide to go righ to a Hell in the Cell match. It was the fist time a Nintendo wrestling game had one of those. The match starts(I had read the instruction booklet before hand so I know a bit about the grappling engine and such)and awkwardness immediately follows with the shotty grappling system. I had played the Smackdown series and hated the grappling system because it takes all the strategy out of the game. Why go from something that works to something that barely works? .... But its okay i digress, and its just something i need to get used to. Maybe if I go and make my own character i will get used to the system... Wow what did they do to create a wrestler. The faces are limited, as is the clothing apparrel. The taunts are not nearly enough, and the amount of moves they took out of the game was horrendous! You are no longer able to dropkick a guy while he is standing inside the ring and you are on the apron. You are no longer able to have your own original finisher... you have to use a pre-exsisting superstars. And what was worst about the create a wrestler was the lack of control you had over your guy's personality. You could no longer pick a rival to interrupt your matches and you can no longer have a valet! What good is a game without a pretty girl in your corner rooting you on. Now down to the hidden charaters... Benoit, Rhyno are excellent additions! Vince and Ric, ok no problem. Stacey wonderfully done to put her in. Now out of all the light heavy weights that you could have put in... they put in Raven. I like Raven but jeesh. With only 4o plus exsisting characters... what where they thinking.

oh my god what a peace of S***!!13841

bill from brooklyn ,NY,USA says (28/Dec/2002):
the graphics for this game is very good thats why i gave it a 1. every thing less SUCKS!!! you cant even go to the back round for crying out loud. what are the people in THQ smocking they should get back AKI. why did i sell my n64 a ps1 for a gamecube if the game on n64 are better then the one on gamecube. I rather play my nintendo then of play gamecube And where the in hell are the story lines oh i forgot their are none! this game should of been like wwf no mercy and for every on how thing this game is good i guess you havent played no mercy for n64. because wwf no mercy makes this game look like a peace of S***. I spent $45.00 on this game and i am only 15 years old is very hard for me to get that kind of money that just a waste of money. when you kick a ladder down it should of been for real like smack down4 shut your mouth in that game you could go all around the city. and why in the hell when some one jumps off the hell in cell they land on their feet i like that there is 4 diferent way to break some one throught the hell in the cell but not when they fall and land on top of you and you fall too and where in the hell is the blood! i said it once and i say again the creat a super star mood should of been more like no mercy.this game should have way more superstars and way more matches. it is so easy to get the the belt in a ladder match they should of made it like the cage match that you should use the control stick. i dont like this game soo much i should brake it and give it back their should of been that you can have more then 4 peolpe in the ring your lucky i can only use 200 word cause i could of went on foever well i hope the next game THQ thinks it though before making it!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.7945

Ben from Des Moines, USA says (19/Jun/2002):
Alright, to start off, this game has a few huge improvements over the N64 wrestling games (WrestleMania 2000, WCW/nWo Revenge, etc.) One of these is obviously the graphics, which shouldn't need to be mentioned. Another is the sound and video quality, which of course are naturally going to get better when you move a game from cartridge to disc. (I can actually tell what the videos are showing, as opposed to the GIF-like animations in WM 2000.) However, I was seriously disappointed by the Create a Superstar mode, mainly because there aren't nearly enough costume designs to make an original character, plus, you HAVE to have a current wrestler's video on their entrance instead of having no video or a generic video of some sort. (What the hell is up with that? They've already made all those, why would we want to clone them?) The huge selection of match types helps, but in the Royal Rumble mode once you or your friends you're playing with get eliminated, the computers take over for the rest of the match. If there is a way to change this, someone please tell me, because that is one of the only features that has really ruined this game for me. I mean, after unlocking all the hidden characters, what else is there to do? The battle for the belts mode is ridiculous in my opinion. Just fighting for renamed titles, don't see the big draw there. Well, anyway, if anyone's got a way to change it so you can play the Royal Rumble as the guy that comes in after you get knocked out (N64 wrestling games have it.) please post or send me an e-mail at GoldKman64< remove me > at aol.com because I personally don't like watching the computers fight for 2 hours.

not as good as i expected...7807

A gamer from Aiea, HI says (13/Jun/2002):
The game was not all that great as i expected... i'd say the graphics and sound is awesome although NWO and booker Ts music and albert still has the "too cool" music the hardys are missing their music and edge still has his old school music as well... Its missing a whole lot of wrestlers in the game such as al snow, maven, hardcore, chavo, ddp, brok, billy n chuck, raven, ric flair... unless they are hidden characters cuz all i was able to get was rhino, the game made me lose interest to try n get the rest of the characters... The entrances are the best thing i've ever seen its so realistic and feels like your in the arena. The triple threat n fatal four way as well as the 4way cage n ladder matches are a pain to win, it takes to long, or i dunno maybe im a terrible player i dont really care. The create a wrestler is very very limited to making the wrestler you exactly want, maybe in size but not the close or logos. The controls are terrible with the feel that seems exactly like smackdown! with no realism at all, the moves n controls dont feel as real compared to playing NO MERCY or Wrestlermania 2000... it doesnt make you feel like you delivered a lot of pain to your opponent and just feels like you did all the moves 4 nothin, I say yukes or THQ should have stuck with the NO MERCY controls, then it could really be called the king of all wrestlin games... I think its a waste of $50 bucks and if you didnt like smackdown!, theres no way you'll come close to liking the game WRESTLEMANIA X8... just dont buy it and save your money.

they could have done better42284

kelsey sharp from missouri says (19/Aug/2004):
first of all almost all of the superstars on the game don't have their original special! for instance when is the last time any body see trish stratus do the sweet chin music? u should only have that move if shawn michaels is gonna be on the game.and since when did stacy keibler have the fame-asser u should only have that move if billy gunn is gonna be on the game.and i never seen stephanie Mcmahon do the pedigree{what the hell}.u cant have a guest referee match like no mercy. and a wwe game is not the same without a bra and panties match.another flipped up part about this game is you cant even make a person bleed. u cant hit em with chairs, poles, tables, ladders, and slam them through tabels but not a scratch is put on em.u cant even hit the ref. and if u do they dont even fight back.another jacked up part is u cant even fight back stage.u cant have a career or season mode and u cant even play in a king of the ring match. and how come u cant play a 6 or 8 man tag match. plus how cum they cant have an elimination chamber match.speaking of eliminations how come u cant have a 6 or 8 man tag elimination match i know about the fatal 4 way match but i want 2 fight more people. why doesnt booker t and the nwo have there regular music. and on the create-a-wrestler u can bearly choose the things u want and why do the have to have someone elses music and titantron.i know they dont have 2 but the original music suck.so in conclusion thq and jacks pacific COULD HAVE DONE BETTER!!!

This game has its ups and downs8308

Grant Olson from Federal Way, WA says (8/Jul/2002):
This game was possibly the best wrestling game for any of the new councles this year. I went to my friends house to play Legends of wrestling, which is the other wrestling game for the Gamecube while he came over to my house and we took a vote, we obviously picked Wrestlemania x8. One big thing the missed out on big time was the choice of career mode and i definately think that is a pain in the < remove me > at $$. On the other hand, i was able to make a great character on create-a-superstar but what its lacking is the choice of clothing. Some entrances are old, and i think that should have been the last thing they should have done so they had time to add in extra wrestlers. there are i think there are about over 40 characters but i dont see why they put in vince because when i played with him, he was as good as edge- my fav. wrestler. but come on there missing obivous people like hardcore holly, Al snow, DDP, need i go on? but what im still trying to figure out is what Battle for the belts, is for, cause when i got into it there are like 50 somthin belts and i dunno, but can i get them? there is andre the giant (unlock by getting all titles with big show within 20 hrs). The graphic and gameplay are awesome, and dont get me wrong on that. But the lack of backstage and career mode do bring down its replay value. i mean i dont have a problem, ive been playing it for 1 week now and i havent gotten tired of it. Overall if you got friends over, this is an awsome multiplayer game.

Bit of a Letdown: The F is Really Out Now10355

Chris from Derby, UK says (16/Oct/2002):
Hmm, quite bad reviews for the game, and that's fine because all the points made were fair criticisms, except obviously the roster which cannot ever be perfect.
It's not exactly what we were looking for, many of the finer parts of N64 Wrestling such as detailed CAW, millions of moves, even the Smackdown Mall, just not there... puzzling. The most annoying part of the game I find is the AI, and in particular during Triple Threat matches. It can take forever to finish matches like Table matches due to the computer's persistence in attacking the human character instead of actually winning the match. We should remember that handicap matches are NOT included in Wrestlemania X8. This is only really a problem here as in Fatal Fourway matches the computer always has the extra man to attack, rather than you.
Although there are improvements, NOT the ridiculous "One blow destroys all" system of wrecking grapple moves. Improvements like
-Reversal of finisher
-Playable Cage and Ladder matches, forever destroying the old "smash the green button and pray" mode of N64
-More 2 Player modes such as Unification
-Sound, hey it's better than the N64 cartridge distorted effect.
-The graphics give a lot of realism, like the crowd.

But, like I said, it's not what we wanted. We wanted the same features of the WCW/nWo/WWF games added with even more depth and detail, we didn't get it, but it's not a bad game by any means and will suit any new WWE fan.

Thq could do better then that I WANT MY MONEY BACK10287

Mr Game and Watch from New york says (14/Oct/2002):
I tell you what the graphics are good a good job for that.Evan thoe the graphics are good the screen still needs zooming because its to far back. The new wrestlers are good like Booker T Lance storme and Rob Van Dam thats ok but lets get into the fun facter thats one thing that sucks the moves are lazy and unrealistic the wrestlers look good and all but ther are not detailed. The gameplay is boring. I turn down my T.V sometimes i play and when you are in a match thers this boring music for the background. No backstages why all the games i see coming out thes days all have backstages evan wwf no mercy. Some of the wrestlers are not even in the game like Brock lesnar Tommy Dreamer X pac and many more. I would go and create them but thers this poor create a wrestler mode turn you right off. I have went over this game i played all the modes i played days and days of it i would of not give a bad score if i dident play this game over and over. I try rvd the worst rvd non of his real kick combose are in the game Sound. Dont get me started on that i have played all kinds of games with bad sound and good sound to sounds that sucked and this game dident hit any of those slots. I use for this rushed. Booker T song is not even in the game or the nwo realy sad Overall. The game was rushed needs alot of improving sounds need help alotand to me you can put the best graphics with no fun facter your game would suck. Save your money

one of the best8328

Andrew Pribyl (thats right i gave you my real name) from Green Bay, Wisconsin says (9/Jul/2002):
This game has its flaws, but it still beats all of the games besides the smackdown series. Some people are saying that the hardyz music is wrong, but then they must not know anything about wrestling. That theme was the theme by monster magnet (live for the moment) on the recently released forceable entry cd. There could have been more moves, but the no mercy engine made good use of the tables (you don't fall off the table during a move). Another great thing is the use of tables in a tlc match. This is the first game i've seen that you can superplex someone off of a ladder and through a table. And other games only had two moveable tables, but this one you can get many more. The hell in a cell match is much improved. The cell finnaly gets away from the ring. It is also more real because you have to weaken walls or cell panel tops to break them. Another thing done well is the real life fell. In previose games you could superplex someone off of a ladder 20min into a match and get to your feet in less than a second. In this game you stay down giving it the feel of despiration manouvers. One thing I noticed is the very detailed anouncers. JR looks good and they move away when your near them. One thing is that they have anouncers but the announces don't talk. I think anyone who gave this game a bad review should think it over and actually look deeper into the game itself.

In a word: DISAPPOINTING10212

Michael Franklin from Bournemouth, England says (12/Oct/2002):
Don't get me wrong, wrestlemania X8 is a cracking game. It has a decent game play, great finishing moves, a good control system & fantastic graphics. But after owning No Mercy & Smackdown: Just bring it, this game was awful. It lacked the smackdown mall option which was fantastic on No Mercy as it always gave you something to aim for. You can't leave the arena into backstage areas, possibly the best feature of Smackdown: just bring it. There are barely any arenas compared to smackdown. The evading system is irritating. We can't exit into the crowd. The chairs are bigger than the wrestlers! And the different match types are just plain shallow. No first blood matches, no guest refs, no submission matches, no 'i quit' matches, no slobber knocker, no 3 stages of hell, no bleeding, no street fights, no interference, no NOTHIN! I can't create my own stable or create my own taunts. They even took away the biggest pleasure i ever got from wrestling games, focussing of the ref and beating him black and blue. But the worst feature in wrestlemania is the insultingly bad create a wrestler feature. It's AWFUL. It's just so bad, there's no faces, no haircuts, no writing on shirts, no decent logos, i hate it. After the detail of the wonderful smackdown create mode, it was the nail in the coffin that condemns wrestlemania X8 to being a bargain basement game. I'm returning it this week.

A gamer from Toronto says (13/Oct/2002):
Yeah i got this game thinking that this game was going to beat no mercy and smackdown 3 just bring it no.In my words thq could do better then that.I loved wrestlemania 2000 no mercy peaple were right they could of used no mercy make the graphics look more realistic and update it a little more with the new wrestlers make the create a wrestler have more option and work from ther and i would be given this game a good review. The graphics are very very good thats why i gived it a 2.The sound is the worst in the game it makes me think of the 1st nintendo. Why no Booker T music i loved booker t song i was dissopointed because of that and when you punch a wrestler it sounds like this shhhhhhh shhhhhhhh why thq why.I thought the shop zone was good on wwf no mercy and in no mercy you could pick your own enemies at least tree not on wrestlemania x8 this as to be the most unhappy game i have played for a while No mercy kept me playing for years this game kept me going for a month the moves in this game are so sad and boring.Thq need aki back please thq make another wrestling please i dont have all the system not everyone has ps2 i need a good wrestling and this was not it.If you are a big wrestling fan and you never tryed no mercy wrestlemania 2000 nwo revenge then rent it.But if youed try those games save your money.

The game is fine but it doesn't have the matches and backstages evey wwe fan wants8076

The Game from USA says (25/Jun/2002):
The gameplay is really really fun when u play on painful or hard and the grapichs are so totally cool i mean if there were blood, backstages, and those type of matches like i quit, 6 man tag, 6 man hell in a cell, guest referey, and the king of the ring, and more matches but i forgot i know that all u people would love story mode if it had story mode i would like play that game so many times until i get bored and i know that u people would give this game and would like give it 9.5 i mean i would if it contanied more stuff that the fans want and i want. And i would really have more fun with the game if it was like wwe smackdown just bring it i mean when u play with the superstars u have the feeling that your acutally wrestling in reall life i mean u feel it when u play the game but.. the game it's not more fun than wrestlemania x8 but it's fun in story mode i mean i played the game but the only thing i love is the story mode i really love that nothing else is good in the game like create a wrestle what kind of $#< remove me > at ! is that and what the hell is the music OLD WWE music i mean at least wrestlemania x8 has every supersatrs new music that's why i love it for a reason and at least every thing is upgarded in wrestlemania x8.I think that wrestlemania x9 is the next game coming out for gamecube. I WISH SO.

The Best Wrestling Game out no matter what u think28616

A gamer from Mobile,Alabama says (25/Jul/2003):
Wrestlemania x8 is a great game. Like any game it has its flaws like the create-a-wrestler option, i mean what the hell is that. I especially didin't like the fact that u couldn't steal your opponents special move like u could in No Mercy. The last flaw I saw was that if you broke your opponent through a cage or table they show it entirely 2 fast and some wrestlers don't have their real music and the biggest flaw yet NO BROCK LESNAR. But the good things I saw were that the graphics are TIGHT the Hell in a Cell matches are off da chain and the Hardcore matches are tight. Another good thing is the entrances they are tight as hell. They have a wide variety of moves and the fact that u can have your own personal belt is tight. The last flaw I saw is that it is 2 damn easy to interrupt a special move whether u reverse it or someone punches u when u are about 2 do it. It was a good game, I've had it for a few months and it is still a tight ass game I could play it all day. Even though it is still tight to me I can't wait for Wrestlemania 19 to come out and u bet yo ass I'm going to give another commentary about that game. If u liked my review u will love the game now it does not cost over 25 dollars but don't let that sway your judgement, if u like wrestling WMX8 is your game. Peace!

After Some time with The Game7872

Az from Whitehorse, (Yk) Canada says (15/Jun/2002):
I've spent some time with the game, played around with the modes, and I figure that a lot of people jumped to some conclusions. Those of you complaining about the create-a-wrestler, no, you're right, it's not as good as Smackdown. But Smackdown has had 3 tries to get it this far too. Those of you complaining about the enterance music? Yeah, they left some good ones out. The four person royal rumble? Aren't you the same people who complained about Smackdown for the very reason that it had too many people, and it was hard to target?

I have to admit, the wrestler this is painfully short, and the lack of backstage areas is sore point. The midi-style music is damn near laughable, but none of these things detract from the gameplay.
I was one of the many people eagerly anticipating the sequel to No Mercy for the 64, and I was dissapointed. However, when it comes down to it, this stands head and shoulders above Raw for the X-Box and Legends of Wrestling for the PS2. I don't regret buying it, and it's fun to play with a couple of friends.

They're choices for secret wrestlers leave something to be desired... Rhyno? He was
1) a secret character in Smackdown
2) Not all that big a star... Where's Shawn Michaels? Mankind? DDP?

Oh well, the sequel may address these issues.

Nothing more than dissapointing8139

David Campbell from Ottawa, Canada says (28/Jun/2002):
It took me all of two minutes of playing this game to realize that it was going to be a huge dissapointment. I really enjoyed No Mercy for N64, and was, at the very least, expecting this game to be at least as good. The graphics are ok but the game is not smooth, especially when there are multiple wrestlers and items in the ring. Sometimes your wrestler will get pushed to the other side of the ring for no reason. Perhaps the biggest dissapointment was the lack of moves. All the other THQ wrestling games were outstanding in this department, with a huge list of moves to choose from for every character. For some reason they only included a few moves per wrestler in this game and it really makes the game repetitive. The game is also lacking some form of a carrer mode. Something with a story. They didn't really include a game mode that you could get into. I could see this game being fun if you have three buddies over and you're playing a four way hell in the cell match, but besides that, there's not much to it. I get the impression that this game was rushed. It was definetly a step backwards as far as inovative wrestling games go, as it didn't really give you anything new and failed to include many of the best features from the past games.
