A letdown? HA! | | Darth Meatloaf from Coruscant says (18/Dec/2002): | This is, quite simply put, an almost-perfected Star Wars game, second only to Rouge Squadron. It screams "Play me!" from the front cover. I loved the Battle of Geonosis on the AOTC DVD, and the Geonosis levels are true to the movie. You can watch and an AT-TE take on a droid starfighter with a missile launcher while fending off wave after wave of hailfire droids from both sides. You can watch Hailfire droids and other enemies set a-flame and bounce around like firey ping-pong balls after they get killed.
ON TO RATINGS!!!!
Graphics: 9.5
Though some of the characters seemed plastic-y and their motions repetitive, you'll never notice as you charge through waves of ground troops in your TX-130 fighter tank or obliterate waves of enemies with composite-beam blaster cannons in your Republic Gunship. Only one, small thing prevented this from getting a perfect score: The explosions. They look.....painted on and 2-D. No big deal, as most games have this problem. You get used to it. The hi-res cutscenes were impressive. Whoever developed those managed to get Samuel L. Jackson's likeness spot-on. And did I mention that the missiles actually explode on impact, rather than dissolving away like in Rouge leader? That's a nice touch which improves the feeling of a frantic battle tenfold.
Replayability: 10
The missions are short, but the bonus objectives (used to open bonus features, like Yoda in the multiplayer) will keep you playing for hours on end. The hardest setting for 1-player mode, Jedi Master, will make your head spin. And let's not forget the fun you and a friend can have in the Geonosis arena multiplayer level. ;)
Sound: 10
Even if you don't have surround sound, this game sounds like a million bucks. The explosions around you, Homing spider droid lasers blazing past your craft, and even the lightsabers all sound great and true to the movies.
Multiplayer: 10
Should have had another battle arena, but the very fact that this is a Star Wars video game with *multiplayer* more than makes up for this shortcoming. Oh, the fun you'll have slicing up Geonosians in the Jedi academy Geonosis arean level, or playing as a Hailfire droid in the varied battle modes, with such favorites as king of the mountain, Capture the flag and a simple, all out frag fest against your buddies. Truly, more Star Wars games need a multiplayer.
The experience overall: 10
They truly captured the essence of a war in this game: Jedi starfighters zoom overhead as you use your lightsaber to hack away at the waves of Battle droids. Endless battles between clone troops and Battle droids light the ground with laser fire. The only thing I can find to complain about is the amount of levels, but with the hardest difficulty level on even the first level can be hard to finish. Everything is balanced perfectly and you always feel as if you are slightly out of control of the situation, which is a very good thing.
And so, I advise you not to take those who give this game less than five stars very seriously. Sure, The Clone Wars has some flaws, but you'll never notice them. If you loved Rouge leader, you'll be estatic about this game. It won't ever disappoint you.
A flop? Not challenging enough? A *letdown*? HA! I think not!
| Clone Wars | | Mike Alvarado from Pasadena, Ca. USA says (2/Nov/2002): | The Clone Wars is by far one of the most intense action packed games I have ever played. It plays along well to tite in where the movie left off and the story line isnt disapointing becuase the staory is all war and nothing else. Similiar to Rogue Squandron the game pakes a punch. It is challenging from the start youll have to learn quick because the enemy in this game really dont wait to kill and there are many! You're thrown you into the heat frontlines of the battle. In a Assault tank you must blast your way to the next objective... but dont get these tanks wrong there fast and that helps when your being chased by missle after missle. There mobile and tough. Assuming the roles of the Anakin and Mace your protecting the grand army of the republic most of time flying or soaring over the rough terrain. The battles are intense with many explosins and much fire. Pieces of flaming droid and metal flying all over the place! If you like blowing things up and want to relive the most intense scenes of episode two then this game is sure to please and reward star wars fans from all over. Your adrenaline will soar as you pilot vehicles on land and in the air to defeat enemies that look undefeatable. The sound is great as with all things dolby surrond this game is one to blast and make your neighbors complain! The game is visually stunning with brilliant colors and not to mention the lasers and explosions. Like Rogue, your able to control your wingmen and despite the lack of a training level youll learn the controls fast as they are not much different from Rogue Squandron. The Multiplayer part of the game is sure to please friends who come to play. Show your skills in all out battle or be on the same team and defeat the whole Confederacy. In battle mode your able to defeat your friend in a figther tank or an at-tt walker. In conquest you can acquire bases and infiltrate your opponents base and win. You can also play head 2 head as a jedi with light saber and defeat killer droids! Still has the codes feature and allows you to save multiple user profiles. This is by far one of my most favorite star wars game!
| What a let down!! | | Jonny from London, England says (20/Nov/2002): | Having pre-ordered this game as soon as I found out about it a month or so ago, I was dying to actually play it,-Maybe I shouldnt have bothered. Graphically ,its alright at best, and after the stunning looks of Rogue Leader thats just not good enough! In places ,it looks no better than a PS1 game!-(I had to keep convincing myself it was actually running on a Gamecube.) Almost every one of the worlds the missions take place on are nothing you havent seen in almost every other Star Wars game ever made. One word to sum up The Clone Wars...-REPETITIVE! How many missions take place in that damn tank???- Too Many!! When your Jedi character leaves the tank to tackle the enemies on foot I was plesently surprised,(albeit temporarily). 'Theyre trying to do something different' I thought,'Theyre trying to immerse us even further in to the battle' I thought. -And I really wanted to enjoy this. Unfortunately, its so badly done it just lets the game down still further.
Thankfully the dull missions are nice and short. And then the realisation hits you,its not just one of them ALL of the missions are short!!! AND if thats not bad enough almost all of the missions are DULL!!! Having said that, its not ALL bad. The missions where you pilot to republic gunship for example are undoubtably the games high points. Fast, frantic, and fun. And all of a sudden it feels like youre playing something on a par with Rogue Leader and you almost begin to forgive it for its short-comings, and then before you know it the missions over and youre back inside that awful tank again!!!!! I really, REALLY wanted to like this game but as much as it pretends to be a great game it only manages to be an average one.
| Short campaign, great multiplayer | | A gamer says (21/Mar/2004): | I bought this game a while ago. Below I'll list all the categories.
1. Gameplay 4/5
The storyline is pretty solid, picks up at the end of the AOTC movie. The only mission I didn't like was the one on Kashyyk - pretty boring, and the animal was bad. The other missions were fun.
2. Graphics 4/5
Good graphics. Cutscenes could use some work and to be honest, the jedi on foot when you're controlling them look pretty bad, although you mostly play as a vehicle so it's not that bad. The battles are pretty spectacular looking.
3. Sound 3/5
Pretty good sound. I have surround sound, increases quality more. The battle sequences had great sound quality, but the voices were fake and corny. That really annoyed me.
4. Value 4/5
Worth almost every penny. Pretty short, completed it in a couple of days. I recommend using a cheat to unlock the multiplayer options, if you don't want to have to play campaign.
5. Multiplayer 5/5
Worth buying the game just for this. If you are by yourself, play academy. With 2 or 3 people, play duel or control zone. If you have 4, XBOX live, or system link, then definitely play conquest. This is the best part of the whole game. This is like a miniwar where you are the soldier and commander. It is really fun, especially when you are all experienced. If there is one really good person then they will just run toward the enemy's base and destroy it like that, so you should be that person, if everyone is, the game is great. Multiplayer is the best.
| WOW THIS GAME IS SOOOOO COOL AND SOOOOO REALISTIC !!!!! | | Ian from England says (13/Oct/2003): | This game is a must for any starwars fan it is so cool the graphics are amazing!!!!! you can a ride on a republic speeder bike, or fight side by side with computer controled units on the ground in a fighter tank and even a AT-XT and even travel on the back of a maru. The story line in the game is incredable and the leveles are fantastic you can play as Mace Windu (my favorate), Obi-Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker. The levels are amazing in some battles turn your camera to look into the sky and watch a air battle take place or watch the meny thousands of computer controled clonetroopers or battle droids fight in these highly packed levels. And in some levels for example the battle of geonosis and on the last level in the ancient sith city when you are in trouble and your life is low out of no were a gunship comes and drops off an AT-TE's or fighter tanks to help you out. If you like a game of team work this is the one for you on the normal levels you get loads of mates to halp you out and the multiplayer are so cool and don't get me started on how good the jedi academy is and the graphics are incredable especially on the AT-TE's (my favourate) to all the people who made this game WELL DONE !!!!! its a master piece and i hope they make one for the next films as i havent gaot bored of this one yet !!!!! this game is MUST for all starwars fans !!!!!
| A great game... but- | | Jedi with force from Glasgow, Scotland says (28/Dec/2002): | OK, I got this came for Christmas, it came out here in the UK just a couple of weeks ago. At first I thought what a really great game, the first couple of levels were brilliant even though EDGE gave it a rating 4 out of ten I thought it was better than that. After a while though didn't anyone think that it got a bit tedious escorting slow ships and blowing up key buildings and fighting huge, oversized bosses with any amounts of firepower and shielding? Me I prefer Rogue Leader and Rogue Squadron, same idea but bigger variety. But anyway, back to the game. I completed it today... took me four days, in my opinion it was too short but still some of the levels were challenging such as the one with the weird ghost things in it. There are a lot of cheats and so once I had completed it cheat free I went through it again using cheats and completed it in a matter of hours... it lacks length. I liked the variety of craft but some were unrealistically slow and others looked more futuristic than the ones from future episodes, no? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but it wasn't brilliant. The multiplayer - ah, the multiplayer. A great boost to the game, a brilliant add on. Especially the academy levels. Sheer brilliance but anyway, don't let me put you off.
| The best Star Wars game yet! | | Jordan from Kapolei, Hawaii,USA says (8/Jan/2003): | This has got to be the greatest star wars game i have ever played in my life. It has an incredible storyline- during the clone wars. Count Dooku has found an ancient sith weapon, and it's up to the clone army to stop him before it crushes the Republic. You can play as Mace Windu, Obi-Wan kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and even Yoda in multiplayer. pilot more than 5 craft, and fight in 16 single player campaign missions. Single player takes you to 6 different worlds, including Rhen Var, Geonosis, and the Wookie planet Kashyyyk. The best part of this game is the great multiplayer modes. They include Conquest, Duel, Control Zone, and the greatest of all, jedi Academy. Conquest is a team based strategy where 4 players split into 2 teams and try to destroy the other team's base. Duel is the simple kill each other for points game. In Control Zone, players fight to have control of a certain area of space. Jedi Academy is a cooperation Endurance match. Players become one team and fight to survive against waves of enemies. There is also an Academy where players control a certain character and fight in the Geonosis Execution Arena. Overall, I give it a perfect 10, and recommend it to all gamers!
| FATTY letdown, people! | | Dr. Chum from Oroville, California says (9/Jan/2003): | OK, im a huge star wars fan, ill be the first to admit it. but this game straight up sucked! im a (beyond) hardcore gamer before anything else, and i only buy games that i know will put some serious foot to ass. but, this was a little less than exciting in some areas, im sorry to say! and i love flight sims, i really do, and most of the missions where you piloted a vehicle were a blast but the (very few, and short) portions of the game where you walked around as a jedi, well, sucked. the sabre swingin controls could have been better. (like X-Boxs obiwan, i loved those controls!) and the characters looked like toys. the sound could ave been better in some places(hint: if youre going to make a videogame based off a movie series, use the actual actors for the voices, it helps!) and also, it was too damn short! i bought it for my little brother when he spent the night at my house, and i beat it that same night!!! i even completed all the bonus objectives! i was stuck on on one particular mission for an hour(the stapp mission running from the pink stuff). multi player was fun, though.
| THE BEST STAR WARS GAME ON GAMECUBE EVER! | | Sam Daniel Rowett from Suffolk, England says (14/Dec/2002): | A few years back a Star wars game was going to be a good thing then along comes Episode 1. The film was O.K. but the games such as Star wars racer were as entertaining as a wet fart.Behold Gamecube! The home of future Star wars games. Rouge leader put Lucas's blockbusters back on track, with its SWEET challenges. Now, the Clone wars still tells us that we have lots to look forward too. It follows on from Episode 2; you can be Anakin Skywalker, Obi-wan, or Mace Windu. You can also play as a Battle droid, a wookie, and Yoda (in the Geonosis Academy mode).
The plot is very original. Count Dooku is bent on rebuilding the Dark Reaper. (A black flying saucer with a purple gas under it in my opinion) And with it, he plans to reap devastation on the galaxy. You get to visit loads of worlds from the Star wars world, including Chewbacca's home Kashyakk, and Thule (an ancient Sith infested world). The Graphics are ace; you really fell like you're there in some parts, especially with the rumble feature on. The downside is the 1-player. It’s short, but the Multi-player’ll last years!
| Short, but HOT!!!!!!! | | JEDICHRIS69 from Great barrington,MASS says (8/Dec/2002): | The game play was decent, being Mace and YODA(multiplayer) was sweet. The gunship was the best, though. The walker was cool. The enemies were designed really exellent. Jedi academy, although repetitive, was one of the best multiplayer games this side of Tatooine. In it,you can be assisted by clone troopers in the later waves, and three other jedi,if your on Geonosis. My problem was the amount of playtime the craft recieved. The tank was in it way too long, and the gunship / jedi were in it for a minute, or two , tops. Also, only 16 missions? The game could have been better if it was longer. They should have thrown in a small Coruscant level and Dogabah level(a guy can dream, can't he?) But, the game made up for its flaws by having exellent level, charecters, enemies, and weapons. So it almost made a ten,but the lack of gunshipness made it lose serious uno pointo. If a serious Star Wars fan, or game lover, this a musto-havo.
SIDE NOTE: the bosses seamed kinda weak, don't cha think. I mean PROTODEKA, DREADNOUGHT? Can we get some help in the boss area?
| The Holy Hand Grenade of Ground-based Combat | | A gamer from Florida, USA says (16/Nov/2002): | Star Wars: the Clone Wars is a must have for all Star Wars gamers. The graphics are the best I've seen in all the games that I've played and the Dolby Sound is great. You power up the 'cube and are instantly bombarded with John Williams' musical talent in all its glory. Gameplay is great, you never get stuck on any one level for too long and there are no glitches to speak of. Originality hearkens back to a previous Sith War 4,000 years before and shows the growing discord between master and apprentice. my only problem with this game is that it was too good. I kept playing and soon had all missions completed and all bonus objectives within a day. I'm hoping for a sequel which might continue the abrupt ending to the game. Multiplayer capability is always a plus in any Star Wars game, but it can be somewhat hollow and dull at times-the academy missions are a perfect example.
| Excellent! But no Rogue Leader... | | Brendan L. M. from Texas, USA says (3/Jan/2003): | Let me start off by saying that this game was very good. I loved the cutscenes, most of the graphics were good, and I loved that there is finally a decent multiplayer and I love playing in the Geonosian Arena as the Wookie, Amidala, and Battle Droid via cheats. It also has excellent sound and music directly from the films that really gives this game the "Star Wars feel". The drawback, the framerate and freeze ups. The framerate was quite a let down considering Rogue Leader's and once on the level, The Battle of Geonosis, when a Federation Star Ship was destroyed and the blast of dust and debree hit my vehicle the framerate was so slow it began freezing up on me. But other than that minor drawback (it only occurs there when I have my turbo boost on), the game is excellent and well deserves 8 or 9 stars. Great job again LucasArts.
| AWESOME GAME | | Count from Uranus,Alaska says (4/Jan/2003): | Ok i played this game omg it's awesome. True the bosses are hard but it's gotta be a little challenging. Multi player is cool. GEONOSIS acamdemy is best. just wish the game had a lil more lightsaber action in it. I love the levels Battle of Geonosis and Lost legacy were u sit there and just harass the crap outta the droid army. great game!!!!!!!! One neat thing is how the AI moves like the droids clones etc.. is all just like in movie. the Super Battle Droids walk with there right arm extended firing away and the spider driods move just like they should. HAILFIRE droids roll into battle just like in the movie and Core ships fall and make a big dust ball. awesome Detail i think Lucasarts and Pandemic did a fine job.
| not quit as good as i hoped | | Jessie from crappy town, missouri says (22/Nov/2002): | along with most of the other people here i thought this game was a little short. i like games that take me months or at least weeks to beat. this one took me four days on the easy difficulty, without trying very hard. the game does have some good points, but it isnt like rouge squadron, where every now and then you sit back and say WOW! the levels often seem familar as well. such as the levels with the speeder bike and STAP were both an awful lot like endor later on in star wars. on the bright side though the game music is pretty decent and some of the multiplayer options are okay such as the academy and conquest. all in all im hoping that bounty hunter and that jedi game wont be the letdown that this one was.
| The best starwars game yet!!! | | Amanda from Negaunee Mi says (9/Nov/2002): | Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a great game. It is really fun expecially when your on foot, when you are in a veicle it is still fun but the only other star wars game on foot is Return of the Jedi for SNES. The foot play was way overdue. The graphics are very good, on the game box it doesn't look like the graphics are anything special but they are. The only thing this game is lacking is more force powers, the force push is good but what about the jump, pull, and grip. The levels are a little short and there aren't enough of them. I think they should have add more to the geonosis level and i would have liked to fight count dooku, but besides that this game is great. If your a star wars fan you'll like this game!!
| WOW!!!!!!! | | chris from shreveport, louisiana usa says (25/Nov/2002): | umm i dont know why all you people say being on foot is soo awesome. lets see.. hmm ever heard of jedi power battles?!?!? hows about the phantom menace?!?!?!? or maybe jedi knight 1 OR 2!? im not gonna try to think of any others but you are only on foot in those ones o and shadows of the empire too but that has a vehicle level... this game was good but dont make a review how being on foot was soo awesome and never done since like forever.. its cool to have differnet vehicles and be on foot all in one level but not good enough to mention in reviews. this game was short though. other then that its awesome and teh multiplayer is good. especially conquest
| An overall great game! | | Kyle Karr from Sacramento, California, USA says (31/Oct/2002): | I thought the game was very good the first time i played it, but i noticed after the the 3rd mission that there was 1 and only one thing wrong with the game. The thing was going by too fast, in other words the missions were not too short but there were just not enough of them, i beat the whole 16 missions in less than 4 hours, if there were like 35 missions it would have been much better because it would have kept me busy for atleast 2 days instead of 4 hours. I think this would be 10 times better if it was a 2 disc set with 20 missions on each disc, and a total of 40 missions. other than the lack in numbers of missions the game was excllent!
| Best star wars game ever!!!! | | A gamer says (1/Dec/2002): | This is the best star wars game ever!!! Not only are the missions great, but the multiplayer is fun too. Me and my brother played it for hours on multiplayer. Graphics are great, the targeting system works well aiming directly at opponents. there is a goood variety of vehicles(my favorite is the Republic Gunship). i've probaly spent 10+ hours playing it. i just rented it from Blockbuster with the games pass, and I'm going to keep the game until i finish it! If you haven't checked this out, go and do it this very second. what are you waiting for. finishing the game gives you information about what happens that you never knew before.
| Sweet Fancy Moses! | | SMC from NJ USA says (11/Nov/2002): | This game was so good i almost passed out. The battle of Geonosis was like you where actually there, thousands of drouds and clones on the ground, occasional gunships and enemy fighters flying by...man...makes you think what George Lucas has up his sleeve next. The sound was excellent, really great. The graphics where unbellievebly great. I love how ships exploded as well as ground craft, some even became airborne and shattered into dust there. This game kept me occupied for weeks, and the multiplayer was great! I didnt like conquest too much but the academy ones are sweet. Man... im outa here to go play it again!
| Coolest GC game in a while! | | Garrett from Camarillo, California, USA says (1/Nov/2002): | Lucasarts has made one heck of a game with this one. It's fast, fun, and full of extras. The controls are awesome, well places, and easy to get used to. The visuals are great, with only occasional choke-ups on the massive battles. The sound is great as always, and is improved by all the favorite scores and themes we love about Star Wars. The variety of vehicles keeps gameplay interesting, as well as being able to play a Jedi. Although the Jedi move a little awkwardly, it hardly takes away from the overall experience. I gave this game a 10, and recommend it to any GC or Star Wars fans!
