Metroid at it's Prime |
| 10k from Toronto, Canada says (11/Oct/2003): |
Well i bought another game so i do another review. On September 28 i was bored out of my mind so what did i do? I was sick and tired of buying games that lasted me 8-10 hours of gameplay. I looked up on the internet to see if there was any good game for the GCN worth buying and would last me and CHALLENGE me. So Metroid Prime was the end result. I had played my friends game before and i thought it was ok, but hard. But when i actually owned it i was amazed when i turned it on and saw the graphics. Samus and her Power suit are so amazingly shiny. And this isn't a cheap game like mario party where only the characters are detailed and the backround looks like paper. Even the layout of the worlds and enemies had good graphics. graphics get a 10/10. The sound is great with the music matching it's world. I hate when the room get's dark and the space pirates come out and the scary music plays. There is no dull music and the Plasma beam firing sounds sweet, hearing your arm cannon fire. Yeah sound gets 10/10. The game is really fun. Even if it is hard. thats the thing about Metroid games, they have always been hard but not hard so that you get pissed and don't play it for a year, they are challenging and when you die you just wanna restart from your save point and play somemore. The game is addictive I tell you! The game never gets dull or boring so fun factor is 10/10. I always hated first person games, never knew why they thought of that, were they afraid to show samus in third person 3D pr something. But I didn't mind at all that this was first person. As long as you get to see your arm cannon and occasional cutscenes it's all good. The game is hard to finish at 100%. I'm about to finish the game at about 85%. There are three endings to this. Ending 1: 74% or less, Ending 2: 75%-99% Ending 3: 100%. As you can see, i will get the second ending but i will go for the third ending when I beat this again. If you get ending 1 it is about 15 hours of gameplay. ending 2 is about 20 hours of gameplay and ending 3 is about 25 hours of gameplay. But if you scan everything in the game and complete 100% log books and ending, you unlock image galleries so scanni geverything probably adds like another hour because there is ALOT of things to scan so if you completly beat the game it is around 26 hours or so. A good long game for me is 20 hours and this surpasses it so it gets a 10/10 for gameplay. Thats why this is my first reviewed game to get 10/10, because it s PERFECT! Nice job Retro and Nintendo, can't wait for the sequel.

amazing landmark in gaming!!! |
| Kevin Olmsted from El Paso,USA says (7/Oct/2003): |
I've had my Gamecube about a year now and so far most of the Nintendo owned properties have been lousy. StarFox Adventures was lacking and Mario Sunshine was a huge letdown. It couldn't compare to the brilliant simplicity of Mario 64. I was never a huge fan of the original Metroids so shelling out $50 for Metroid Prime didn't interest me. After convincing from some close friends I gave in and bought it. I was absolutely blown away and immediately hooked. I didn't think the Gamecube could handle a game of this size or graphic intensity. The controls are easy to learn and fluid. All of the elements (scanning, weapon types, morph ball usage) tie perfectly into the game's story. And graphically the game reminds me of the movie "The Dark Crystal" in the sense that the world is so beautifully realized you forget that you are sitting in your living room watching a movie or playing a game. I highly recommend this game to anyone. Recently Nintendo dropped the price to $30 so you really can't go wrong. I welcome any arguments against this being one of the probably top 10 or 15 games of all time. A real landmark.

Quite Possible The Greatest Game Ever Made |
| Dan from San Francisco, USA says (31/Aug/2003): |
My tagline says it all. this is quite possibly the greatest work of graphic art, talent, and awe to ever be held by human hands. years from now, people will say that Metroid Prime is still the greatest piece of art in history. all the detail, the enemies, the in-depth story... it's impossible to not love this game.
master chief vs. samus...
TKO... SAMUS!!!!

BLOODY SWEET!!! |
| Fasta than the Masta of Disasta! from Edmonton Alberta Canada says (14/Aug/2003): |
I definately can say that this game gets a full 20/10 stars for the quality of its story, graphics, and every other category thatt his game enduces the definition of. Once i got off my ship on the space station, i was fricken hooked man, the controls were awsome, and all of samus' origonal abilities that were origionally from the game "Super Metroid" were definately enhanced the way that Nintendo meant them to be. b^.^d Thumbs up dudes. Just talking about it makes me want to go beat Thardus some more. Peace

Aberation of Prime |
| Jonathan from Edmonton Alberta Canada says (14/Aug/2003): |
I freaking loved it. just saying the word "Best Nintendo Game Ever" speaks for itself in every aspect of the entire gaming realm. The one part i appreciated the most was the deligent and extremely extravagent display of a "Metroid" at its best. Certainly not those cheap 8-pixel blobs you see flying around in the other games. this is what metroid was meant to be, and forever will be

A GAME IN ITS PRIME BABY!! |
| Jonathan from Edmonton Alberta Canada says (14/Aug/2003): |
HAHAHA I LOVED THIS PIECE OF DIGITAL ARTWORK MAN!
Everything you could want in a game and more. The most appreciative aspect of the game is the little but at the same time "BIG" details they put in the game, such ass seeing samus' face when you made something explode with a missile, or the water passing by samus' visor as she swims through water. The weapons were done especially well, and we can definately give credit to the detail of the all favourable "Charge Beam". I just love watching it expand and seeing those big lines light up with unstable energy, then watching it blow its way through a fat space pirate! The statistics of the game are definately awe-inspiring, as everything fits together in a combination of simple logic and the outer worlds of logic in itself. The one thing i love the best about the weapons is that they are so shiney, you can see reflections of other stuff nearby in the weapon as you ready to blast away another enemy from existance. The detail in the "Metroids" themselves was, like, 0_0 kind of expression on my face when i saw how freaking cool they looked. And the best part of the game is that after you beat it for the first time, you wanna pick up the controller again and keep beating your last time till you get all the items and under 2 hours, an origional but very creative tradition in the metroid series. As well as i can say about introducing ridley back into the game as one of samus' arch-rivals that never dies (even if he isnt the big-bag-last-boss, its still good to see him back in action SUPED UP WITH FRICKEN METAL GEAR ALL AROUND HIS BODY MAN, HE WAS $#< remove me > at !ING HARD TO BEAT AND THE MOST FUN $#< remove me > at !ING BOSS OF THEM ALL! Thardus was also a great boss to beat. As you can see, one of the best aspects of the game is the adrenaline rush you would get when you got to a boss, (even a mini-boss!) such as when you approach thardus 'standing skyscraper height over you', making your first thought "holy sh!t, i gotta take that tank of a monster down? holy sh!t is it ever exasperating. The part that sent chills down my spine was when i looked at flaagra when he turned all black, then he actually started LOOKING at me and i said "what the $#< remove me > at !", as i looked up at his face pointing my gun at what i thought for his face were two large circular plates with 2 red bulbs inside each of them, turned out to be a freakish smaller face under that and i got scared sh!tless so i started firing missiles away and knocked him unconcious. Haha its those kind of moments that get ya, eh? The different suit colors are $#< remove me > at !ing awsome, especially the phazon suit "everyones fave", but you gotta love the way the exploit samus' old orange power suit with the large shoulder power nodes at every nook and cranny. And the morph ball... ah yess, the trademark of the greatest galactic hero ever ah! Dont you just love the way it looks after you get an upgrade? especially when you get the phazon suit, it looks just AWSOME. makes you wish there was a part in the game where you could stay in ball-mode for 2 hours or something.. hehe. Anyway im getting really anxious to beat my old time and get the "BEST" ending in the entire game. Ill be back later to review samus' performance on Super Smash Bros. Melee! Peace!

Best of the best |
| A gamer from Florida, U.S.A. says (29/Jul/2003): |
I belive this game sould have a rate of a ten is because just look at it the games garafics are like you are actully in the suit shoting all the strange creatures that u must scan. My favorite boss is Ridly even though he is creapy from the awsome graphics he is still the funist opp. tho fight. When he fires the weird plasma beam from his mouth it looks so real. If you play for a ling time and you get in to the game when some thing shoots at you you actuly move as if you are actully being shot at! All the little abilites that you get are so cool the morph ball, the bomb ball, the boast ball, the spider ball, the power bomb ball, the charge beam, the super missil, the wave beam, the wave buster, the ice beam, the ice spreader, the plasma beam(my favorite W.O.C.), the FLAMETHROWER!!!!!!!,AND THE ALL TIME BEST THE PHAZON CANON. But you can only use that when you fight the 2nd form of the metroid Prime. If you dont have this I show much pitty on you on the amount of fun you are missing so get to a store and buy this game.

Nintendo's GREATEST game |
| Steve Cook from Kineton , U.K says (27/Jul/2003): |
When I first played this game I was gobsmacked, it's totally perfect. The graphics are really amazing, the best i've seen in a long time. The music is so atmospheric and really sets the scene in the game and it lasts a long time too, it took me well over 30 hours to complete it. The enimies and bosses look fantastic especially the space pirates and the last two bosses. With so many different weapons, power ups and artifacts to find, as well as scanning all the data into your log book, you'll be playing this for a very long indeed. All I can say is, if you own a Gamecube and you havn't bought this game yet then SHAME ON YOU!!

Metroid's at its Prime! |
| personwhoidolizesmetroids from Dallas, USA says (25/Jul/2003): |
i think the best part of the game is the devircity of the different enemy types. i think my favorite foe is the shadow pirate.
i definetly thoght that the graphics were terrific not to mention thesound. The music was real gonzo.
On a low note, i saw Samus's face at the end of the game.

At its Prime! |
| John Remias from Dallas, USA says (24/Jul/2003): |
The game was sweet! The sound effects were very cool, especially when I was fightn' Chozo Ghosts. There was a surround systemwhere a ghost was to the left of Samus and had nearly hit her had I not heard its shreik.
My other other favorite element of the game was the incredible divercity of creatures and how they looked.

Metriod Prime Beats All! |
| Christopher Alexandre from Jersey says (20/Jul/2003): |
I've had to admit. This is one class Shoot-Em-Up game that I have ever played. It's so good it's even the top rated game at the moment with a rating of about 9.6! I've managed to complete Metriod Prime within 2 Weeks and now I'm ready to complete the Hard Mode skill which to mean has no difference. If they are making a Metriod Prime 2, I hope it'll have different weapons, enemies and much much more. I can't wait until the future comes, but for now I'll continue my adventure with Metroid Prime for Nintendo Gamecube

best game ever |
| A gamer from new york, usa says (4/Jul/2003): |
untill prime i didnt know or care much for metroid games, but after i played it that all changed. my jaw literally hit the floor when i started playing, the graphics are absolutly incredible. throughout the whole game there is not one glitch, slowdown, or chopped framerate to be seen. also, the visor effects are amazing, the condensation and raindrops hitting the visor look incredible. the best part of all this are the ultra-real environments. they are unbeleivebly atmospheric and seamless, nothing looks artificial, it all looks completely real. another reason why the graphics are so nice are the details. partical effects like rain and snow look great, and the way samus` weapons seem to bend reality is incredible. the control is spot-on too. in most fps, jumping is a pain, but in prime, platform jumping is done effortlessly. teh adventure style controls worked amazingly well, it made blasting all the creatures of tallon 4 and the space pirates easier. the best part of all this though is the exploration formula. during the course of the game the are certine areas that are unreachable, but you know that a powerup that you will get will allow you to access them. this masterful formula are what all metroid games are like, and why they are so good. the extras are great too, image galleries, three endings and gba connection bonuses add to an already amazing game. i can honestly say that prime has surpassed zelda: ocarina of time as my favorite game. in truth, it doesnt matter what kind of gamer you are, there is no reason for you not to play prime, you owe it to yourself to play it.

Metroid rules |
| metroid dude from Littleton, Colorado, USA says (3/Jul/2003): |
at first i thought this game was easy but it was a real challenge! The graphics are great and the gameplay is smooth! You have all the weapons from the previous metroid games and some new ones! The bosses and just the regular people hard to kill but this game is still awesome! If you buy one Gamecube game this tear buy this one!!
|
This Game is Nintendo's Best Effort in one Small Disc!! |
| Tom Miller from Alliance,Nebraska, United States of America says (2/Jul/2003): |
I barely beat the game but it rules! The details are incredible, like in the Tallon Overworld, you can see the raindrops on your vison. The first-person view takes you into the action of the game. Heck, this game is even BETTER than Halo. Even though I didn't quite beat it yet, this deserves the game of the year award. Those who disrespect this fine work of pure beautiful art shall kiss my butt! The weapons and the connection feature make this game ever more thrilling than I describe. May the Metroid and Nintendo legacy live on in our past, present, and future!

about metroid prime |
| i____like___gamecube from USA says (27/Jun/2003): |
this is a pretty fun game but it has its drow backs it gets harder way herder as you pass the first lvl and some of the bosses are very hard but some of them are easy as pie to kill like the firts boss you encounter for a noobie its sorda hard but as you might get killed the first time the next time you will beat him its a pretty good game some of the things you fight are very hard though and look for cheats some but there are no good cheats for this game
|
GREAT! game AWSOME graphics superior replayability as with all metroids! |
| A gamer from Maine says (24/Jun/2003): |
I bought this game last week and just beat it and this game is competely awsome as with all metroids it has some great adventuring and game replayability. As most of you have heard the games done like a first person shooter and I have to admit being a long term metroid fan I was very sceptic about the change but once I played it I loved it in fact im glad they changed it. The sound and music is great during most battles the music changes to suit the mood especially during the boss fights also some "sorta creepy" music takes place while you are in some semi-creepy levels the sound and music alone is worth a 10 star! As for the gameplay they are top notch the game has so much freedom you can almost go whereever and do whatever you want the map system helps you find your way around and by studying it you can find shortcuts to different area's and there's a LOT of shortcuts which help make the game much less repetitive. There's ALWAYS something to kill no matter were you are you will never get bored. The games moderately difficult when you start off and those people who would be disapointed with the difficulty there's a HARD difficulty for those who have beatin the game. And of course the graphics which add so much more to the already AWSOME gameplay you really feel you are Samus throughout the whole game when you are in an area thats raining you can see rain drops hitting samus's visor + if you go over your head in magma it covers he visor and slides off the same with water. Its a pretty cool detail and for those of you(and im one of them) who want to see samus well you see her plenty whenever you go down an elevator and during boss fights cut you get cutscenes and of course in the morph ball you can see her and control her while rolling. As you can tell the game is NOT like any old first person shooter I for one am not a fan of first person shooters mainly because they like hiding the character and you can NEVER see them but this game was done beautifully they really strived on making this a very different kind of FPS(First Person shooter). To conclude this you really need to buy this game renting it isn't enough because you will be going back to this game for countless reasons!

Prime Time |
| hasekjr3000 from Detroit,USA says (22/Jun/2003): |
Metroid Prime is the best first person shooter game i have ever played. The sound is amazing. What I really like is the weapons, visors, and the graphics. The ice beam is awsome. I love getting revenge on all the enimies in magmoor caverns. The thermal visor is the best visor out of all of them. I like seeing new doors and mislle expansions. The morph ball is cool and handy, but it is gard to get the correct view with it. The sound and graphics put in the action. When I play I feel like i am in the suit blasting the metroids. The boss battles are tough, but still not insanly hard.I like the origanallity and creativity of the monsters, while keeping the old school favorites like metroids and ridley. I am not even half way through this awsome game and I already love it. Nintendo has made yet another classic game. Metroid Prime also has great replay value. You can go back through and try to get all energy tanks or missle expansions. Then you can go back through trying to scan everything. Another cool feature is the connectivity bonuses. If you beat either new metroid game, you can get cool bonuses like playing the first metroid game. While playing this game time flies and you don't realize that your just pushing buttons.

Is this the best game ever....? |
| Robster from South Dakota, USA says (19/Jun/2003): |
Now I will admit, the title of this review, was not my doing. This was said by a friend of mine. Until now, I was just another fan of the Metroid series. My love was for the Legend of Zelda series, until I played prime... I have not been able to play any other game since I started. The boss battles are everything I asked for and more!!!
When I brought this game, I was thinking that this was just another first person shooter.(I bought it at the urging of a friend) Then I started playing....correction, not just playing, I became immersed in the world of Talon 4. This game is so in depth, from the wave beam to the spider ball, there have been no shortcuts. Sometimes even a simple looking puzzle will leave me hanging for an answer.(Everyone remember the piller in the Phazon Mines? rotate...rotate...climb..rotate...etc...)
I can't say that I like just one thing about this game, the entire game was amazing. Unlike some video games,in this one your weapons are kept in perspective. For example, the Wavebuster is powerful, but it costs a lot of missles to use. I would have to agree with a lot of people out there, this is the best game ever.
