This game blew me away, Literaly!!!!!!!!!!! | | Jeremy from Procious, West Virginia, USA says (15/Jan/2004): | This game is so awesome i love it, i have beat it several times. The first thing that makes this game so awesome is the morph ball. That thing is so awesome. i have played part 1,3. and metroid fusion, and of course this game. i have never got to play part 2. but anyways back to the game. I love the power suit it looks so awesome. you can really tell retro took there time on this game. And i now they are releasing metroid prime 2 later this year! The reason this game is so awesome is that the graphics and the sound plus the power-ups. the first-person does not bother me on this game. although i hate first-person games. Since this is a nintendo game then it doesnt bother me. My favorite power-up is morph ball, i mean look at how she morphs into it, it looks so cool. There is no down side to this game. And the ending is very cool. It just makes you wonder what part 2 is going to be about but you will find out if you collect 100% of the items which took me forever. i got it about 2 weeks after it came out. and i just found every thing about a month ago. I really recommend this game to people who likes adventures games like me, i love them. so if you want some action than go get this game and just wait til "Metroid Prime 2" comes out it will be as good as the first hopefully, but i dont think retro will let us down so enjoy!!!!!!!!!
| NINTENDOES WHAT NO ONE ELSE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | gameguy from Texas,USA says (22/Jun/2004): | Simply the greatest of the Metroid series to date! The creatures are of complete fantasy, and its puzzles really take a while to accomplish! That is what a good Sci-Fi should be like. Plus the array of weapons and each having their own use is very creative, because you don't use just one to squash everything that moves and to solve puzzles! Graphics I admit the fire can use some work, but it is like you're in the suit instead of Samus, sound is truly amazing because it lets you know there is danger in the room,it lets you know that it is whispering "i am a beautiful, majestic rainforest full of beautiful plants and peaceful animals" or yelling "I am a dangerous lava filled death trap". But most of all I like the freedom to move around the world with no nessasary objectives except survive. That is what seperates this game from Halo and Halo deciphles. The difficulty stays at an excitingly difficult level that suits the challenges well and the overall game is something no one can beat. So stalk up on food that will last you until you die or get tired of it (which won't happen any time soon), drink plenty of caffine, nail and bar off all windows, doors, nooks and crannys, and buckle your seat belt because you are in for a ride that will blow you away trillions of times faster then the speed of sound!!
| Inovative yet nostalgic. | | A gamer from Claremore, OK, USA says (20/Nov/2002): | To be honest, when I first saw the screen shots from Metroid Prime, I was sceptical. I'm not a huge fan of first person shooters, so the idea of changing the classic Metroid into a first person shotter kinda repulsed me. I thought that Metroid would turn into one of those blow everything up kinda games, where the sole goal is to destroy everything. Which don't get me wrong, can be fun for a while, but grows old quickly. However, after only 3 minutes of game play, I was hooked. Metroid Prime manages to create an awsome game playing expierience, by not screwing with the original formula, but changing the prespective. Also something that followers of the series will enjoy, Metroid Prime does a lot of back storying, which is where they talk about charecter origins. The contenuiety of the series is so greatly enhanced by this installment. The only negative thing I have to say about the game is, I think that the designers should have givin the player the choice of either first person or third person mode, instead of always first person, because jumping is seriouly confusing at first, also not knowing what's on either side of you, or behind you gets annoying really quick. Other than that the game's perfect. I susspect that this installment will quickly become a classic, just as it's predacessors.
| Freakin' Awsome | | A gamer from Warrenton, VA says (24/Jan/2004): | This game is definately the best game out for Gamecube right now. The only game that has a chance of being better than it would be Metroid Prime 2. The transition from 2d side-scroller to 3d FPS was flawless, and the control scheme is easy to learn and use, if not perfect. One thing that amazes me is the detail of every aspect of the game. It must have taken years to come up with the many different species of animal and plant life. Being able to scan enemies for their weaknesses makes the game infinately easier and more fun, because you no longer have to waste time, energy, and missles to find a particular enemy's weak spot.
The sound is amazing. the music goes perfectly for every environment, and I often catch myself humming along with the music, instead of paying attention to where I am going. The sound effects are just as good.
Being able to read the chozo lore and Pirate data adds even more depth to the story, as you can learn more about the various experiments the space pirates have conducted on the metroids and themselves, and how the chozo runs came to be, then became ruins.
Overall, this game is aperfect addition to the series, and feezing metroids in first person view brings back good memories of the 8-bit days.
| Prime Time | | hasekjr3000 from Detroit,USA says (22/Jun/2003): | Metroid Prime is the best first person shooter game i have ever played. The sound is amazing. What I really like is the weapons, visors, and the graphics. The ice beam is awsome. I love getting revenge on all the enimies in magmoor caverns. The thermal visor is the best visor out of all of them. I like seeing new doors and mislle expansions. The morph ball is cool and handy, but it is gard to get the correct view with it. The sound and graphics put in the action. When I play I feel like i am in the suit blasting the metroids. The boss battles are tough, but still not insanly hard.I like the origanallity and creativity of the monsters, while keeping the old school favorites like metroids and ridley. I am not even half way through this awsome game and I already love it. Nintendo has made yet another classic game. Metroid Prime also has great replay value. You can go back through and try to get all energy tanks or missle expansions. Then you can go back through trying to scan everything. Another cool feature is the connectivity bonuses. If you beat either new metroid game, you can get cool bonuses like playing the first metroid game. While playing this game time flies and you don't realize that your just pushing buttons.
| The best game of all time! | | Andre from Columbia, MD, USA says (6/Dec/2002): | Sadly, those stupid critics who are very jealous of Metroid Prime are giving terrible reviews of this killer game. This game is obviously the best game that was ever made. Metroid Prime has the best graphics, sound, and gameplay that you could experience in a video game. Metroid Prime is also incredibly fun to play. Not only that, your energy will be sucked into the game just like what the metroids do to bounty hunter, Samus Aran. I promise you that you will lose hundreds of hours of sleep over this game. Since I first had Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo in 1994, I was overwelmed with how good this game was. So good that I was hoping for a sequel. Unfortunately, there was not a metroid game for the N64. Then I found out that there was going to be a metroid game coming out for the Nintendo Gamecube. It was going to be called Metroid Prime. Overall, I had to wait eight years for this game. As soon as Metroid Prime came out, it full-filled all of my expectations that simply blew me away. It was definately the best game that I have ever played in my life. Not only that, but it has also gone platinum with perfect scores. It was about time that a game surpassed that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Crap.
| Crazy!!! Game!!! | | A gamer from california, CA says (17/Feb/2004): | When I played this game I got attached to it I played the game soo long that that I vomited twice! (hahahahaha... really I did.) I couldn't stop myself from playing this game i always kept the visor off so it felt like she wasn't wearing her helmet(except the energy gauge). Then I was soo excited when i got the game cube link for the GBA and when i got the fusion suit I felt like she was faster in that suit lol it was cool too. When I beated normal I was determined to beat hard mode and I did. (whew...) Hard mode is sooo hard I lost a couple of times because of the damage increase. (><) When I fought the... I forgot the name I think it was the "Phazon Omega" I had trouble with his minions because I was panicking of my energy guage decreasing so fast!!! Then when i beated the hard mode I had 89% through the whole game I'm trying to get 100% because I knew there was something special at the end, like a different ending. So... all I got was that I unlocked gallery no.3 and I was questioning myself "how do I unlock gallery no.2" but I wasn't sure if my bro already did it...lol
well that's about all i did thanks for listening to m review it's not much because im poor in English...
THANK YOU ^_^
| Too easy and a bit boring | | Richard R. from Everett, WA USA says (19/Dec/2002): | I bought this game and beat it in 30 hours first try. Not bad. Most RPG's I ever played lasted that long, but even though this is not a RPG, I still think it was good for the first time. But after replaying it to find all the items, I only found that trying to find all the missles challenging (found 210 so far). The graphics are kinda disapointing. I've seen better on the game cube. In fact, the graphics are a bit different than what is shown on the commercial. So I give the graphics a 8 star rating. The music wasn't that great either but it was't bad. So it's another 8 stars there. The game play is great if you like first person shooters. To rate the challenge of this game, I rate it a 7. Come on, Super Metroid's Ridley was much more difficult to defeat. I'll admit that I liked meta-ridly better only because he looks so kewl. The AI in the game is good but needs improvement. You can go up to the next room, stand still, and watch a space pirate walk up to you then turn around like you weren't there. This game gets boring after 3 times of playing it in a row. I found Mario Sunshine more enjoyable and more fun than this game. So the fun rating, I give it a 6. Overall I give this game a 7.
| By far the most riveting game... ever. | | Neil from Florida, USA says (24/Apr/2003): | Super Mario 3 held my attention for weeks. Super Metroid for almost a month... Goldeneye I still play even though I've had it for 4 years... Metroid Prime is THAT good a game, even though its only single player. It took me a few hours to get into it... the first level isn't particularly enjoyable, although it is a pretty good training ground for the main game. Once you reach the main area- you probably won't leave your couch until you pass out. The game has the most beautifully rendered graphics this side of Toy Story, incredibly atmospheric sound, and gameplay that will make you feel like it actually hurts every time you get hit. If you haven't bought this game, buy it... if you don't have a gamecube, buy one of those too. Its like final fantasy in its addiction level, but you don't have to be a nerd to get into it. One more thing- to the person who asked earlier if you had to fight the big metallic dragon... that is meta ridley (thing ridley with extra guns if you played the first NES metroid game) and yes, its the second to last boss. (I'm on the final boss right now.. by far the most difficult character to kill in any game I've EVER played.)Welcome back, Nintendo.
| Metroid Prime, not just another game. | | Mike Barnum from Moab, Utah, USA says (27/Nov/2002): | First of all, I have been waiting speciffically for Metroid Prime for two years now, I'v been waiting for a game like this for all my life. I'll tell you why this is one of the best games I have played in my life (and that's alot of games). Metroid Prime has some of the best graphics out to date, another reason why I love this game so much is because the controls are nice and easy to understand, the lock on targeting is really smooth, the frame rate is very, very clean, the plot sucks you in, or if you're a whimp and dont wanna use your scan visor you'll have just as much fun shooting metroids, space pirates turrits, wild animals, and so on. This game also has some of the coolest gadgets and weapons on a game ever, sucha as the old school morph ball, spider ball, double jump, grapple beam, and so on they're all there! And same with the weapons, orignal energy beam, charge beam, missle, and ice gun, but you also get a wave beam, charge missle, and the pasma beam. The visors are a very nice touch to an already perfect game, the combat visor(default visor), the scan visor, the x ray visor, and the thermal visor. Please if you have a game cube BUY THIS GAME AT ANY COST!!!!
| Is this the best game ever....? | | Robster from South Dakota, USA says (19/Jun/2003): | Now I will admit, the title of this review, was not my doing. This was said by a friend of mine. Until now, I was just another fan of the Metroid series. My love was for the Legend of Zelda series, until I played prime... I have not been able to play any other game since I started. The boss battles are everything I asked for and more!!!
When I brought this game, I was thinking that this was just another first person shooter.(I bought it at the urging of a friend) Then I started playing....correction, not just playing, I became immersed in the world of Talon 4. This game is so in depth, from the wave beam to the spider ball, there have been no shortcuts. Sometimes even a simple looking puzzle will leave me hanging for an answer.(Everyone remember the piller in the Phazon Mines? rotate...rotate...climb..rotate...etc...)
I can't say that I like just one thing about this game, the entire game was amazing. Unlike some video games,in this one your weapons are kept in perspective. For example, the Wavebuster is powerful, but it costs a lot of missles to use. I would have to agree with a lot of people out there, this is the best game ever.
| Metroid Prime - An Instant Classic | | Matt from Nova Scotia, Canada says (12/Sep/2004): | I watched one of my friends play this over his webcam, and I thought to myself "Hmm... After seeing it, I want it more than ever." So I went out and bought it. The controls take about 20-30 mins to get used to. Without the ingame hint system, this game takes quite a while to beat. You have to use logic, your map, and important information about each area to figure out what exactly to do. The first time I beat it, it took me about 15 hours with the hint system. Now I'm going through on hard without it. The storyline is great, and it reveals a LOT about Samus that I didn't really know. It's not like the traditional side-scroller metroids (which also are great. Loved Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission) which is good for a change. I normally don't like many fps, but this has a lot of action/adventure in it. The graphics, though I've seen better, are still very good. The gameplay is something different, and the weapon/visor system is cool. I love it. The whole HUD is pretty cool, because it's like what Samus would see. The difficulty is quite high at some parts, and the boss designs are awesome. 10/10. w00t \m/_(>_<)_\m/
| amazing landmark in gaming!!! | | Kevin Olmsted from El Paso,USA says (7/Oct/2003): | I've had my Gamecube about a year now and so far most of the Nintendo owned properties have been lousy. StarFox Adventures was lacking and Mario Sunshine was a huge letdown. It couldn't compare to the brilliant simplicity of Mario 64. I was never a huge fan of the original Metroids so shelling out $50 for Metroid Prime didn't interest me. After convincing from some close friends I gave in and bought it. I was absolutely blown away and immediately hooked. I didn't think the Gamecube could handle a game of this size or graphic intensity. The controls are easy to learn and fluid. All of the elements (scanning, weapon types, morph ball usage) tie perfectly into the game's story. And graphically the game reminds me of the movie "The Dark Crystal" in the sense that the world is so beautifully realized you forget that you are sitting in your living room watching a movie or playing a game. I highly recommend this game to anyone. Recently Nintendo dropped the price to $30 so you really can't go wrong. I welcome any arguments against this being one of the probably top 10 or 15 games of all time. A real landmark.
| Totaly awsome(Also adictive) | | Matt the addicted beginner from Edmonton, Canada says (13/May/2004): | The first and not to mentian best gamecube game I ever got, and I got it free with my gamecube too!!!! The only thing that held me back from rating it 10 out of 10 is that you can't play it if you have never used a gamecube before (Like I did). Wait a bit so you can get used to the controls and other games(It took me 10 months) then try it in a month of playing gamecube. One of the key things that makes this game the bomb, is that its not one of those cheapo games that you go through a level and your done. And the grafics put all other games to shame with different perspectives and (if you noticed on the front cover) Its won an award for best grafics in 2002. It only takes up 2 blocks in your memory card to make 1 file out of 3( most memory cards have about 250 blocks or more). I urge you to buy this game if you don't have it. If its to tough then wait a month or 2 and try it again, and I asure you, your intrest in this game will grow emensly. For those of you that have this game, my opinian is to keep on playing untill you beet hard mode, and then some. I have only reached 38% and I love this game.
| Samus blasts her way into Gamecube's best game!! | | Bradley from Southampton, England says (26/Mar/2003): | Samus has returned at last!! Her new game is the best game on the Cube; you need to get it!! The graphics are in full 3D - you will need to allocate atleast 1/2 hour just to stop and stare. The gameplay is simply magnificent, and you feel the urge to fight the rock-hard bosses one more time. Just the need to get all the upgrades will drive you on and on. The sound doesn't make you wet your pants, but in big battles there will be loud, boomy music while exploring next to the river the music will be nice and soft. No need for a hi-fi in this game!! It really will just blow you away - you must, must get this. There is something for everyone; this game is not a fist-person shooter - your not constantly balsting enemies - it is not a platformer - it isn't all about precise jumps to avoid toxic water. Its a combination of everything!! The game will last you, more than a week to complete; three endings, a hard mode and just the urge to go back a morph ball a little longer. This game you will not be selling!! There is one problem - I need Metroid Prime 2 to come out soon so I can have more fun with Samus!!
| The Most Exicting Game Ever!! | | Andrew from Riverside, California, USA says (14/Dec/2002): | This game is so awesome!!! The graphics are the best I have seen on Gamecube. Metroid Prime was the best on NES; but it is now the best on Gamecube! I love the controls. They are so easy for me to use. I really like this game because of the fast pace non-stop action that keeps you exicted every time you play it. I like it because of the controls, graphics, and the gameplay of it!!! I think that this is Gamecube's best game ever made so far. I have heard some bad things about it, but I totally disagree with what they say about this awesome game. This game rocks! I really hope that Gamecube makes another Metroid game for this system! I really liked this game even when I first got it. Every day I was at school I wanted to go home and play it so much! I think that this game will never get boring. It is always fun to play especially on your first time playing it or on hard mode it is also very fun!!! I have got to get the next Metroid game that comes out! If another one even comes out? I was so surprised when I first heard about this game coming out for Gamecube! I just had to get it!
| The most awsome game ever | | samus boy[Brandon Garcia] from La Mesa, California, USA says (20/Nov/2002): | When I first saw screenshots of Metroid Prime, I was very excited.A first person Metroid sounded great. But it was when I first played it that I was truly amazed.Nothing could have prepared me for the stunning visuals that I saw in the first 5 minutes.Once you get used to the controls, you can truly say that this game is the best ever. The only flaw that I found was the annoying scanning idea.It is very hard to scan something and fight at the same time.Seeing things through samus's perspective is very different, but totally cool. All of the old gadgets are back too.Missils, morph ball, arm cannon, and even the grappling beam. The visor is awsome too.You can find the thermal view, which lets you see heat signatures, x-ray,which lets you see through walls and secrets, scanning, which means you read on stuff, and your regular visor.Plus if you get into water, after you get out and the water dries up, you can actually see water stains!Metroid, as we know it, has been completely morphed into something great.I speak for every Metroid fan when I say that this is truly the game of the year.
| Best game ever!! | | Gamer from WA , USA says (27/Nov/2003): | Metroid Prime is by far one of the greatest games ever. This game should win the best graphics award, if there is one. The morph ball is so fine in detail it makes a basketball look fake, if that's even possible... The music is unbelievable too. Even the music in the start menu is amazing. I give this game a 10/10 because it has everything a "perfect" game is supposed to have, and more! Graphics, Music, Plot, Originality, Gameplay and fun factor are above perfect. It will keep you entertained weeks. Then when you finally beat it, you'll play it again on a different difficulty. If nintendo does ever come out with Metroid 2, they should make the game longer. The plot, graphics, weapons, environments, and bosses were beyond amazing, but I think all of you could agree with me that if they made a second game with twice as many weapons, twice as many bosses, and even more new levels/environments, it would be the greatest thing to happen to video game history. Until then, let's just hope they refrain from making more games like Mario Sunshine, which was a big disappointment.
| the controler was fused to my hand | | gameguy from Texas USA says (5/Apr/2003): | This is my third reveiw thus far and i still have more to say. the charge combos are cool i can burn the enimies do serious damage and paralyze enimies with out them knowing what hit them. xbox and play staion could never measure up to what this game has. Sharp graphics, easy comfortable controls, and the changing music to indicate that your in a peacful forest or battling for survival in the twisted hostile enviorment of the space pirates. And anyone who says its a first person shooter is mistaken for you dont pull out hunderds of guns and blast away at hordes of enemies. the fun factor is speacil i like it were i let the metriods out and watch them feed off the enemy (very difficult task to do) and the pirates run around screaming in pain. And in conclusion anyone who doesent like this game better prepare to start a whole new life as fertilizer that sound good dont worry ill make them an offer they cant refuse. And such a good game (sorry did i say good I MEAN ABSOLUTLY BRILLIANT and thats putting it mildly) should have more games like it and possibly a sequel
| Easily a classic | | A gamer from Windsor, Ontario says (28/Dec/2002): | This game is simply amazing. It really lets the gamecube shine, putting its graphic processors to the test. The detail that was added to the environments and samus is just amazing. Nothing was overlooked. When the rain falls on the visor and the gun, when steam fogs up the visor, when you use the x ray visor you can see Samus's hands, and countless other things. The only thing I was disappointed about was the fact that there is no strafing. The HUD layout is cool, but the C-Stick is used for gun selection rather than strafing. The controls are confusing at first, but then again, this is a new system, everyone is getting used to the controls. But overall, the game was great, and a lot of fun. You'll get used to manuevering quite quickly and you'll soon start to think like Samus. The game is also pretty long, though it only took me 20 hours to beat the first time. The graphics are nothing short of amazing, and the frame rate never drops, even for a split second.
Fun - 10/10
Gameplay - 10/10
Controls 9/10
Graphics - 10/10
OVERALL - 10/10
