SIMPLICITY was the key and mk forgot it!!!18920

SHANEY liverpool from liverpool ENGLAND says (9/Mar/2003):
What happened eh?mk:da has got potential but only to get other companies copying of it or for a second ps2 bloodfest,i think that there could have been more to do like a team battle mode or even a tag would have been nice, i wanted to see how sick the fatalities were going to be and a few namely quan chi's neck pull were quite crap and not even in the slightest bit gory i think for the next mk the makers should have a write in to get the fatalities tailor made by us to suit the ppl that count!?!? US not them US anyway lets not moan lets look at the god points eh and there is some good points LOTS the music is your old mortal kombat usual stuff but thank god its still there and not some techno tune the graphics are simply somthing else they are the best i especially like the background on the portal (my fav level) the blood is as gory as ever with chunks of flesh optional where you can change the blood level from off low medium or max (MAX IS THE $#< remove me > at !) the gamplay incorporates a new system were you can change from three stances one being a weapon (which you can't drop but hey) the special moves are simple but effective (not enough in my book but hey im eccentric about special moves innit) the combinations are good and plentiful but there is no hidden combos which i hoped there would be and there is an in game move list which helps my thick freinds so theyre not always saying hey how do you do this move or how do u do this move there is a konquest mode where you have to train your self and learn moves step by step it isnt like other mk's i wanted to play it when i knew it was coming out i just wanted to see the down and punch uppercut to see if it was still as brutal and alas there was none(bugger)there is a krypt where you have to pick out coffins to see whats inside opened with money you earn through the game even though 95% of the stuff in side is a load of anus you might if you have a year or two get through them all 676 in all and thats where the other characters are unlocked to so happy hunting. Lastly (ok ok im going to moan again) i thought that there should have been more fatalities 2 at least i mean these computers are state of the ar6t ps2 xbox gamecube i mean come on midway lets sort it out is two tooo much to ask for eh??? and there is NO pit level i repeat NO pit level so sorry all you ppl that just button bash you wont be doing any death moves any time soon and thats it in my opinion if you want a game thats entertaining and blody brutal then mkda is on the list but for the beat em up enthusiast i think the game will burn out soon cos there just isnt enough to keep you going forever whereas i still play mk1 cos there is just somthing excellent about it and that somthing is magic and can not be replicated mk da has forgotten how to make this simple magic come to life on your video games console ill give it 7 out of ten(god loves a tryer) oh and finnally please midway add some more characters please i want to show off a little bit more cheers mate oh and come ereeeeeee FINISH HIM Beyatch!!!!

an argument for Mortal Kombat33067

Kevin Olmsted from El Paso,USA says (7/Oct/2003):
Mortal Kombat 5. Or technically Mortal Kombat 8 if you count MK3 Ultimate, MK Trilogy, and MK Gold. I love Mortal Kombat more than any other game frachise out there. I grew up with it. I have followed the series into adulthood. I would give MK5 a 10 (like I would give almost every game in the series) but I'm realistic. A brief history if you will: MK1 was a brilliant game only in what it pioneered. The realistic violence, the fatalities and the use of real actors photographed as fighters (OK Pitfighter did it first but does anyone really acknowledge that game?). Otherwise the game was slow, had sluggish controls and no strategy. MK2 is in my opinion the best of the MK's. The action was sped up, more characters, more special moves, more fatalities and a little better strategy. More isn't always better but MK2 also took on a much darker look and feel and the story was better written. Graphics may have improved since MK2 but nothing matches the creativity that went into making MK2. MK3 had more, more more but it wasn't better. The game is much lighter literally and figuratively. Graphically it was a little better but the greyness of all the characters made it look bland. Massive improvements were much faster gameplay and combos. The RUN button left me unimpressed and I still rarely use it. MK3 Ultimate added jump-in combos (did that make the game cooler or cheaper?) more characters and a few darker levels. Fatalities were much less creative on both versions of MK3. MK4 had the same feel as MK3 only in 3D but few moves, few (and unoriginal) fatalities and VERY poorly rendered characters and environments had me wondering if this was it for MK. MK4 Gold ditto with more characters. MK5 is a breath of fresh air. It has all of the better elements of the previous games. It is dark and well rendered. I knew 3D was the inevitable way to go but MK4 had me doubting if MK could do it. The colors are vibrant and the beautiful character design harkens back to MK2. Controls are nice. The fatalities, while few, are almost operatic in their staging and execution. The different fighting styles and quest mode make the game needlessly complicated but overall it is a fun game. And fun is what it's all about, right? Here's my ranking: 1-MK2 2-MK5 3-MK3's 4-MK1 5-MK4
For the ultimate experience I recommend MK Trilogy. Pretty much all the characters from MK 1-3 crammed in one free-for-all. The Playstation version looks and sounds better with a few more characters but the load time will leave you wanting to gouge your eyes out. I recommend the N64 version for speed and sheer fun factor especially for parties. Let's hope MK6 is like MK Trilogy: strip it down to just the fighters and basic moves and no quest. And bring back some of the old fighters. Also on a side note what MK fan wouldn't shell out say $40 for a Gamecube compilation disc al la "Sonic Mega Collection" of the fist 3 or 4 MK's? HINT HINT Midway.

very hard but fun!40722

bob mcsheild from england reading says (2/May/2004):
mortal combat is a great game!!!!!!!!!!.but very challenging.i hate the crypt with all the noises.i really wish u could be moloch or at least let him hav a fatality.wat i am pissed of at is how boring some of the endings are.ex raidens and john cages.i think the game in all is great but i think they've over done the blood a little too much.my fav characters are sub zero but i really want his over costume scorpion and forst. i think frosts ending is funny and cool at the same time.i havent got evrything in the crypt yet still some way off and i dont hav every ending etc.wat i really want is sub zeros ending and costume.my least favourite charcters r johnny cage because his boring and usless i luckiliy completed it with him(with sub zeros help of course)and the other one is drahmin hes so annoying always having those flys around him.i hate the noises of the crypt i think they've gone to far which lets its score go very far down.my favourite moves r sticking your sword though them and most of sub zeros moves and frosts.i also like scorpions moves.l lov using kenshis moves.i may only be elven but i know a good game when i see one.i also know crap moves when i see one.like the detonaters for cyrax and the ball o flies for drahmin.i also like the fatalities i hav seen all of them.the trick is to write it down then do it.the 3 coolest ones is kenshis but that is very hard to do sub zeros and of course frosts and scorpions the most boring ones are quan chis and johnny cage in fact everything about johnny cage is crap!so in all i hope u dont be johnny cage and i hope u be either sub zero forst scorpion or maybe cyrax, kenshi or raiden so i hope uve learnt something about mortal combat is great!and very gory!! with a capital G.

peter mandisi from auckland says (21/Apr/2004):

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance16353

A gamer from anderson,USA says (26/Jan/2003):
MortalKombat is great game with the three fighting stances or styles but the multi story fighting stages have disappeared into the unknown and has the mutiple fatalities disappeared forever the game is but it needs the finishers of FATALITIES,FREINDSHIPS, and the STAGE FATALITIES. Think of MortalKombat Thrilogy we need the return of Noobsiobot,Smoke, and all of the other Thrilogy caracters Liu Kang dies whats up wit dat he is liked by every one and his soul is Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung has Liu kangs Fire attacks come on guys more people to create the game is a great thing but stupid when you can't even make i symbolize 1-3 where did the classic subzero go come on reptile is cool or as you say it kool any way MKDA could of been upgraded oh and thanks for not having the fatality kodes too long. The Krypt has about 676 Koffins in it some have gay pictures others are empty hows that gonna make the game fun when when some Koffins are 3113 Koins and are empty that gay you can keep the kode system in that the game has no-one can get in to your konquest if i were you i would with no doubt get started one a new Kombat game before mortalkombat is forgotten about i do not think you would want that would you. In the practice mode you need to be able to practice your fatalities and the move list is another biggy when finish him/her pops up your fatality becomes avalible in the move list why not have them there from the start oh yeah on mk4 a weapon was a sledge hammer add that and make sure you have it where on of the hits smacks them in to the television screen add more mini games

A bit dissapointed18274

A gamer from Down Under says (26/Feb/2003):
Well where to begin? Like most MK fans i rushed out to buy MK5 but after about half hour was dissapointed. Only one fatality per character, no brutality, animality and worst of all the fact that if you experiment with characters you will find they all have combo's where it is impossible for the enemy to block once started. For example use scorpion change to weapon and go the hack after awhile you will work it out, it evens works on moloch. But enough of the negatives because the positives well outnumber the negatives, the fatalitys look brilliant a definiate 10 out of 10 for graphics, sound is brilliant I like to turn music volume right down and sound fx at max, the controls are very easy to learn and you'll be pulling off combo's like the gooks at the arcade in no time, and let me assure you that if you want to unlock all extra characters and costumes and areans you will be having some pretty late nights. Now time for my favorite new feature in the game, "TEST YOUR MIGHT" and "TEST YOUR SIGHT" now test your might involves pushing the buttons quickly to build up strenth to break something, each time you advance you need abit more strength. Now test your sight is my favorite remember the trick with 3 cups and a coin under 1 then the cups get rotated quickly and you have pick the one the coin is under, well this is just the same only the coin is a MK symbol and the more you advance the quicker they rotate and more cups are added then the camera rotates round the cups as the cups still rotate it get pretty difficult but patience is a virtue and trust me you'll need it.

best gameplay , good graphics ,good story line = satisfied fan18219

slimburnzy from queensland says (25/Feb/2003):
i got this game on the weekend because myself like many other die hard mortal kombat fans were anxious to own the game 4 ourselves.
the story line is superb with a detailed introductory movie scene at the beggining that just blew me away with bold new moves taken to the new story line.
This game is by far the most enjoyable and challenging fighting game that i have ever played , i particularly enjoyed the 3 different fighting styles (2 hand 2 hand and 1 weapon) and i am always using the weapons , mainly sub-zero's sword because a big benifit of using the weapon is being able to impale your enemy so that he/she slowly loses blood making it easier to kill them.
a new feature they hav added to mortal kombat which i thought was quite appropriate was "the crypt". The crypt has hundreds of rows of koffins all kontaining secrets such as extra characters character costumes movie clips , history about the series , extra's, and much more which will need a certain amount of koins to unlock each koffin.
the exelent graphics go well in the game with the background music and realistic sounds complimenting the game further.
the only dissapointing point of the game and im sure fans will readily agree is that this version only has one type of fatality which is a major let down , although the fatalities themselves are amazing 2 watch and just as fun 2 learn.
im giving this a ten because i realythink it deserves it , but as a big mortal kombat fan it is almost impossible to non-biased but thats my thoughts and not yours , in my opinion its the only fighting game u should own

The Very Best Game Ever And Always Will Be33534

Goes Posse from Goes, The Netherlands says (16/Oct/2003):
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance is just the very best game. Graphic perfection and sound. And the fighting styles look very real. I,ve played all the Mortal Kombat versions and aspecially Deadly Alliance. I have won tens of fights in a row on max. difficulty and wan't to get even better, but there's always more to learn and that makes Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance interesting. There are many things in the game to learn to become a perfect fighter and I like to achieve that goal. My favorite character is Sub-Zero because of his story and of course his agressive and devastating fighting styles. Other characters I like are Scorpion and Quan Chi, because of Scorpion's fighting styles are perfect simulated and Quan Chi's brutality. I also like the video clip. But there are some negative points I have to say. The not classic characters or weak personages, like Hsu Hao or Nitara. They doesn't fit in a tournament like Mortal Kombat. And Bo Rai Cho is a shame for the game. Where are the classic characters like Noob Saibot, Rain etc. What I also most say: What happend with Reptile, he doesn't look like the original Reptile. A positive point is the creation of the arena's, like the Nethership. If you have Dolby Surround sound you can hear the seagolfs coming to you, or in Shang Tsungs Palace you can hear the wisphering moving across the palace, from left to right ann from front to rear. Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance has some negative points but it is still the best game for me.

Mortal Kombat will keep you at work for months...13606

AJ ( Anthony ) from Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania says (26/Dec/2002):
I just received Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for Game Cube and i feel that it is the best game I've seen in quite some time. Of course, I'm only 14, and I only have 8 games for the system... so I'm sure opinions will conflict with my own. I am very glad that they cut down on the fatalities and presesnted us with a 3D arena. I accent on the first part of my last sentence only because it brings back the feeling of the original MK's and when there is a fatality, it is now worthwhile. Do you all remember when there were like 20 different fatalities/ brutalities/ animalities/ babalities/ etc. for every person. It was a hastle to try and accomplish all of them. Also, I am ecstatic that they have brought THE KRYPT to the table, as it keeps the "non-walkthrough" players of the game at work for weeks on end. 676 coffins and only 9 secret players to find will keep anyone at work. This is not just a game where you beat it and watch the ending now... but it has evolved into a story... a teaching perhaps, of the real arts of karate and the more gruesome, graphic Mortal Kombat.

In other words my cats and dawgs... this game is hotter than the grill (sizzle...) I really liked it and i hope my opinion makes some people go and buy it because its really worth your time. If you like long, hard, sexy, fun... games, then I also advise Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, Pikmin, and a healthy serving of Star Fox Adventures, as well as Mario Sunshine. Enjoy my friends. Holler to that.

MKDA comes Short of Expectations16812

Ven-Eric from Del Rio, TX says (3/Feb/2003):
Overall, MKDA sports the latest in 3-dimensional technology, but still scores low on my scale of high expectations. Midway no doubt put a lot of effort into this animal, however I think it failed to deliver the true nature of what MK fans have come to appreciate. I have played MK since its first release, and have grown ever faithful to each series that has come out. However even with all the gore and hot graphics, the game fails to deliver to its fans more fatalities, stage fatalities etc.
Additionally, the combos are complete madness. Timing is of vital importance, but after several weeks of playing, it has become more and more discouraging. Also, the krypt was a nice addition, but still more of a nightmare to unlock characters and costumes. Again, this caused more discouragement. I would like to see another release soon, to overshadow this shortcoming of an MK release.
Then there is the death of Liu Kang, whoa what is all that about. The character is a legend and resembles all of what the story line is about which brings me to my next disappoint, the story line. It really needs some fine-tuning and better endings. I just can’t ever forgive you for killing off Liu Kang. I would really like that boy resurrected or something. Word to the wise, don’t fix it if it’s not broken.
I am still faithful to the MK series, but I sure hope that a new release is put out soon to rid this bad taste in my mouth that MKDA has left.

Funnest MK yet...37936

Angelus from Apple Valley, CA USA says (5/Jan/2004):
The MK series finally takes a step back and goes back to its roots. Personally, I think the Babalities and all that other crap in the other games was just not needed and some of the extra Fatalities were just plain goofy. Many others might disagree with this, but I stand firm on my opinion.
The new fighting stances, I think, are really cool. The weapons are a nice touch, even though a 'Button-Masher' has beaten me several times just using this stance.
The character models are well done (I really enjoy the bouncing booby effect, its not as extreme as DOA) and the portraits are just awesome. I especially like the bruises and cuts on the face after a match. The bloody footprints are nice as well.

Overall, this game is really great, it could have been one of the greatest. I only have 3 real problems with this game:

1- The control pad (not the joystick) on the Gamecube controller is kind of small making some moves and Fatalities rather difficult to perform and you can't choose to use the joystick.

2- The Krypt is way too big and it takes way too much time to unlock everything. I appreciate the extra content (or should I say 'Kontent') and a lot of it is really cool, but to play the game enough to get the amount of Koins it takes... wow, that's a lot of gaming hours.

3- Where's the Pit?

And here's my last complaint; actually it's more of an inquerie than anything: Where's Johnny's 'cluster-smasher'?

Love it and Hate it...16399

A.C. from USA says (26/Jan/2003):
It's been a few years since I've gotten my MK fix and now that it's here, It's met with mixed results. Graphically speaking the game rocks, the animations are much more detailed sporting a much higher polygon count per charachter as compared to previous Mortal Kombat games. That however, is to be expected considering this new game is a first on next-gen platforms. Some of my old favorites are back including scorpion and Sub-Zero, but Lui Kang is killed off from the very beginning. Now, in itself MK Annihalation is a great game, with combos reversals, buckets and buckets of blood, and tons of codes. If you're looking for a good, solid fighter MK is what you're looking for. In fact, if you never played MK before you would have little to no complaints about this game. Ah, but then there are those of us that grew up with the series and have unrealistically high expectations of the game. We've been spoiled with multiple fatalities, dozens of charachters and more secrets than you can shake a spear at. I think in the next installment of MK they'll give us more of what we, the hardcore fans demand. By then they'll have the game's graphic engine down to a science, which translates into more moves, charachters, fatalities and (hopefull good endings) and secrets to unlock. So in all, the game falls short of it's fans expectations but if this game is new to you, you'll likely love it.

MKDA Lacking in Originality16814

Victor from Omaha, NE says (3/Feb/2003):
MKDA lacks originality. This game is mediocre at best in my book. I can not believe they have killed Liu Kang. That was probably the worst thing I have ever seen done. Next, the combos are certainly the worse set and one serious pain to pull off. Somebody over there at Midway better get the team on the ball.
For me, having played MK since its first release in the early 90’s, has left me questioning where the next release will be taking us gamers. I have always appreciated the story line, characters, arenas, and especially the fatalities. But with one fatality, it simply blows buffalo chips. Not even one freakin stage fatality. Also, wheres smoke and especially Noob Siabot, the most feared characters to duel. Additionally, the original attributes of each character has also added to its disappoint. OK, I’ll be first to say that I’m old school. But for those out there who have come to know the true meaning of MK’s story, would understand where I’m coming from. The game has more meaning and expectations to deliver with each release. Regardless of new graphics and style fighting, the game should always be faithful to its fans when it comes to characters and originality. The only perk that I did like was the costumes. It’s nice to see a change in the look of a character. Otherwise this MKDA beast scores a 4 on the scale of disappoint, and I’m being generous at that.

21708

hannibal from canada says (19/Apr/2003):
I think the fighting was almost pethetic.for mk 6 they should make the hand to hand combat like ufc using mk 5 graphics because they were great.but they dont need to change the weapon stlye they were great and one of the better things about the game. For sure they need to add a stage fatality for every stage.and the fatalitys should all turn into movies like the intro of resident evil 2,you know the zomie gets in the truck.thats how the fatalitys should be when it says finish him it goes into movie mode maybe sub zero says your ass is mine radien runs over to a logging truck gets in and drives radian into a wall bloods every where sub zero gets out walks over to radian and pulls out his sword and decapetates him.Now that would be cool. Also I think when you kill your opponnent you should take one of there powers like if you beat radian you could use his electic move as an option.they should also add full movies when you beat the game for each player. The crypt was cool on mk 5 though, keep that for sure.At the begginng of the game lu kang gets kills in movie mode that is the way all the fatalities should have been done of course more talking and brutal use the fatality mentioned above for sure.definetly make the hand to hand exactly like ultimate fighing championships because its so brutal but realistic and you have lots of stlyes.

Wasn't the worst38203

Rob from ST LOUIS, MO USA says (12/Jan/2004):
What happened to two or three fatalities each, plus stage fatalities, babalities, friendships, brutalities, and animalities? These are things that were very nice about previous games. And the selection of characters is unlimited. And the only two "hidden" characters lack any fatality. And the fatalities are lame...I mean Quan Chi just stretches the other guy's neck, with horrible graphics I add. And what is up with the chunks of whatever in the aftermath of fatalities? And the combos aren't that good either...about the only nice thing is the addition of the impale option while in weapons mode. I do like the two fighting techniques from which one may choose...but the "Special Attacks" are limited and lame...some having only two apiece. Midway sure does need to shape up. It's a complete disappointment...and waste of money. :( If I had more than two thumbs to offer, I'd give it several thumbs down. I couldn’t believe the lack of special features. And having to buy things from the Krypt was very lame…I think this was a much larger let down than the Mortal Kombat Sub-Zero game on PS1. At least with that game you couldn’t expect much…but with this being the latest of the MK games, and especially after MKT, there are expectations; none of which MKDA fulfilled.

about the game45167

EAT SHIT from Newton, Ms says (8/Aug/2005):
I think that this game kicked ass out of all the other Mortal Kombat games to date. The graphics and the characters looked very real and Sonya was sexy as hell. Scorpion kicked ass and I think they should have done a better job with Sub-Zero but THIS GAME ROCKED!!!!! From the beginning of Mortal Kombat to today it is very clear that Midway is getting better and better. And I hope that there will be a Mortal Kombat game on the new system. And to all those who say that the game sucked, then you must be still be playing all of those wimpy games that your momma bought for you. If you want a real fight with weapons, and two different martial art styles then play this one. Other than that shut up and leave this one to the pros like us. I have been a die hard fan of this series since it came out and I am impressed with the way things are going. But they should have kept Liu Kang in this one I agree and kept Johnny Cage out, but...WHO CARES?!!!? Shao Kahn would have been the one to beat but kicking Shang Tsungs and Quan Chis ass was all too perfect!!! Forget Goro don't you think that Molock was way cooler? And the Krypt was awesome!!!! Buying $#< remove me > at ! that you don't need is a everyday thing, but when was the last time you could even bet coins on a fight with your friends??

The Whole Damn Show15132

Mark from Chicago says (9/Jan/2003):
This game has single handedly won me over, from the very second I unwrapped it and played it I knew right then and there that this was only the beginning. Of course now I have beaten it on all skill levels, I have unlocked all of the koffins, and I have also beaten the game on all skill levels of konquest mode, but I dont want to brag =)! But anyways I will Let you in on my secrets of which koffins contain those much awaited characters!

Unlock In Krypt: CN, IV, KI, LL, MW, SA, TI, UR, XG and I will give you the koffins that contain the secret characters and instructions on how to use them! PN: BLAZE to unlock BLAZE, you must beat Konquest Mode and then when you go to any of the fight selections (arcade, practice, etc.) you must go to raiden and hold Down + selction button and you be able to play as BLAZE.

YP: MOKAP to unlock MOKAP, you must beat Konquest Mode and then when you go to any of the fight selections (arcade, practice, etc.) you must go to CYRAX and hold Down + selction button and you be able to play as MOKAP. If you rookies out there need some more help with finding levels, costumes, and strategies, E-mail me at Ubersoldat< remove me > at earthlink.net and I will give you a response as fast as I can =)! Well thats my scoop I'll see you suckas later!

Overall, best fighter game yet.16006

Dorian from TX, USA says (21/Jan/2003):
Ok, so we lost a little along the way. Lu Kang is dead, we only have one fatality per character, and the multi-level fighting arenas are gone. So what's left? Well, awsome graphics, realistic fighting, simple (and realistic) combos, a ton of secrets (including Scorpion's awsome alternate costume, complete with flaming skull), lots of blood, coded profiles, and more. Finally, after spending hours perfecting your moves on a specific character, a ten-year-old cannot walk up and kick your ass by pushing x and o for thirty seconds (Baek, Tekken II). Instead of just hitting buttons, one has to come up with strategies for short kicks and punches with quick combos, and mix in a special move at the right time. It really feels like a real fight. So we lost a little of the magic along the way. MKDA is still, in my opinion, the best overall fighter to date. It delivers exceptional graphics, realistic fighting, and other goodies. I see it as a stepping stone. The game is the first in a new revolutionary style of MK. Instead of complaining about what's missing, lets beat the hell outta this one, and see what's in store for the next addition. If the next MK doesn't deliver some good, new surprises, then let's start bitching. For now, I'm entertained.

CEAR from Bogota, Colombia says (19/Jan/2005):
I wanna say that this game rocks totally, best mortal kombat ever, graphics are awesome, difficult is whats expected from a mortal kombat, the krypt idea couldnt be better, off course theres a lot of crap there but prolly some fans will like it, the gameplay is awesome, style branch combos are sweet and thanks god they improved the wep idea from mk4 addin more attack and easy way to get. The history is very cool even when they killed a lot of main characters it worth it and cmon we all know they will come back in some way. People who says that Mortal Kombat dEADLY aLLIANCE sucks is mainly for less fatalities and New characters, i just wanna say that u are right in fatalities thing but it seems there was a big error in the programtion code and they couldnt include them, but thats not a reason for scoring or less, its not so frustrating, and character thing, Mortal Kombat Team has to improve they have to give a break for some guys, one game out will not be the apocalypsis, plus all the chars were new one time, when Goro dissapeared and Motaro came it was cool too and Goro came back same for deadly alliance chars, i think Frost is cool, Nitara kicks asses. For all interested in Deadly Alliance i just wanna say: What are you waiting for, GO and GET IT
