Where's the spirit?! |
| Rob from Edinburgh, Scotland says (4/Mar/2003): |
Ok fair enough, the game is good, graphics rock, the characters are pretty diverse, the krypt and konquest are good features, and the game has quite a bit of life. But its hardly mortal kombat is it?!! Its an imitation!! I was so hyped about the game, and i mean soooooooo hyped, i loved the mortal Kombat games!!! i mean in the last one they had sooooooo many characters, with the stage features like the spikes and the different floors and all that jaz, i mean unless the company is holding out on the secrets till later, the incredibly disgusting lack of finishers, characters, features, gore and little guys saying toasty, deffinately bring this game down to a way sub mortal combat level. PLus, its soooo easy!!! I mean, the first mortal combat was nails!!! I was soooo dissapointed at this game. Ps, if ive missed something, please tell me what it is.

Exhilarating and intense |
| colt from australia says (3/Mar/2003): |
The game offers endless playability and anticipation. The crypt system will keep gamers striving for more in the game. The graphics are by far the best I have seen in most combat games lately. The choice of fighting styles allows more tactical plays and gives more variety for player combos. I see the fatalities as a downside due to the fact only one can be done per person. Another minor problem would be the fact that computers on higher levels tend to kick your ass with just one combo. Other than that....... the game rocks.

Almost Flawless |
| Carbon copy from Classified says (27/Feb/2003): |
A truly noble evolution for this popular franchise. A lot of thought and work obviously went into this game. I bow in respect to its creators. I have never seen so many things to do in a beat em up before. The earn currency from fights and quests system is a great idea. Tons of extra features to be unlocked. The graphics for the characters and arenas are very well rendered indeed. The fast and furious fighting keeps you on your toes. Sound and music are the best yet for the MK series. Theres a few downers that will not wash well with the hardcore MK fans though. The lack of fatality options (Been mentioned many times) and the fact that they killed Lui Kang (Or did they???). Other than that it gets a big thumbs up from me. FIGHT!

A bit dissapointed |
| A gamer from Down Under says (26/Feb/2003): |
Well where to begin? Like most MK fans i rushed out to buy MK5 but after about half hour was dissapointed. Only one fatality per character, no brutality, animality and worst of all the fact that if you experiment with characters you will find they all have combo's where it is impossible for the enemy to block once started. For example use scorpion change to weapon and go the hack after awhile you will work it out, it evens works on moloch. But enough of the negatives because the positives well outnumber the negatives, the fatalitys look brilliant a definiate 10 out of 10 for graphics, sound is brilliant I like to turn music volume right down and sound fx at max, the controls are very easy to learn and you'll be pulling off combo's like the gooks at the arcade in no time, and let me assure you that if you want to unlock all extra characters and costumes and areans you will be having some pretty late nights. Now time for my favorite new feature in the game, "TEST YOUR MIGHT" and "TEST YOUR SIGHT" now test your might involves pushing the buttons quickly to build up strenth to break something, each time you advance you need abit more strength. Now test your sight is my favorite remember the trick with 3 cups and a coin under 1 then the cups get rotated quickly and you have pick the one the coin is under, well this is just the same only the coin is a MK symbol and the more you advance the quicker they rotate and more cups are added then the camera rotates round the cups as the cups still rotate it get pretty difficult but patience is a virtue and trust me you'll need it.

best gameplay , good graphics ,good story line = satisfied fan |
| slimburnzy from queensland says (25/Feb/2003): |
i got this game on the weekend because myself like many other die hard mortal kombat fans were anxious to own the game 4 ourselves.
the story line is superb with a detailed introductory movie scene at the beggining that just blew me away with bold new moves taken to the new story line.
This game is by far the most enjoyable and challenging fighting game that i have ever played , i particularly enjoyed the 3 different fighting styles (2 hand 2 hand and 1 weapon) and i am always using the weapons , mainly sub-zero's sword because a big benifit of using the weapon is being able to impale your enemy so that he/she slowly loses blood making it easier to kill them.
a new feature they hav added to mortal kombat which i thought was quite appropriate was "the crypt". The crypt has hundreds of rows of koffins all kontaining secrets such as extra characters character costumes movie clips , history about the series , extra's, and much more which will need a certain amount of koins to unlock each koffin.
the exelent graphics go well in the game with the background music and realistic sounds complimenting the game further.
the only dissapointing point of the game and im sure fans will readily agree is that this version only has one type of fatality which is a major let down , although the fatalities themselves are amazing 2 watch and just as fun 2 learn.
im giving this a ten because i realythink it deserves it , but as a big mortal kombat fan it is almost impossible to non-biased but thats my thoughts and not yours , in my opinion its the only fighting game u should own

Take it from me, i'm a games freak and i know what I'm talking about sonny. |
| A gamer from Richmond, New Jersey says (24/Feb/2003): |
MK Deadly Alliance lived up to my expectations. It carried on the spirit of the previous MK games but refurbished certain areas of the game. For example the fatalities, which are quite breath taking and gruesome. The Konquest mode is a welcome feature, making character control easier for beginners. I was slightly disappointed at the amount of fatalities availible, only one per character and no animalities, babalities, friendships, brutalities or background fatalities (remember the spike pit?). What livens it up, however, are the three different fighting styles per character, giving your chosen character more variation and a unique feel about them, unlike previous MK games. The graphics are smooh and crisp and the gameplay is fast and brutal. THIS IS MORTAL KOMBAT AT ITS BEST.

Great game but some negatives... |
| Steve from north bay, ontario, CAN says (24/Feb/2003): |
I myself think this is a great fighting game, playing almost all previous mortal kombat games and arcades. The konquest mode is too short I think, and there should have been 2 fatalities per character, like the older ones. Also, there are no babalities, friendships, brutalities or animalities, which i was dissapointed at. The krypt is pretty damn cool, because it makes it seem like you could never finish the game. But personally, I think the other ones were better because the main part of the game is supposed to be about gruesome, gory fatalities. The storyline was great, except the fact that Liu Kang had died. HE WAS MY CHARACTER!! He was everyones character... but meh thinks change. Great amount of characters but theres no explanation of the characters in the early games. Why is sektor, noob saibot, nightwolf, and many others not in this game? This kinda blows, man. If they make a better mortal kombat with more moves and fatalities, I'M THERE!!! But oh man the graphics are CrAzY!!! I rate 10/10 for graphics!!! Sound was great to... i think i'll be playing this game for a while but if a new one comes out, i'm getting it for sure.

The story line is fucking good |
| A gamer from Australia says (22/Feb/2003): |
This is the first mk game i have ever owned, mainly i havent ever had interest with mk but when i visited the site i thought forget metroid prime im getting this the only other fighter game that even get near this is that of super smash brothers melee and i think this is better. I gave this game a 8 because its missing a few things. The first thing is that if the endings were movies(not speechs) i would raise it to bout 9.2. The second thing is that the fatalities are LAME, i mean very lame there has not been one good one i think the graphics of the fatalities arent at there best and what they do are very crap. The story is what interested me the most and with the endings i love it even more. The characters arent all balanced evenly because some characters have less special moves which does not give them as good chance to fight but overall the characters are balanced enough. Finally the graphics in the game are sharp and very nice the blood is a bit over the top but i guess thats what mk is for ill look forward to the release of mk6.

The very best MK yet but not flawless |
| Finger from Balk, Netherlands :D says (21/Feb/2003): |
The best thing about this game I think is the lifespan of this game, you keep discovering new things. When you mastered the first character and almost think of buying a new game you get interested in another character :D Then there is the Krypt where are 676 coffins to open and it takes a long time before you'll open em all. The arena's are very diferce the only bad thing about them is that there's no stage fatality. The sound is great it gives the real MK feel as the previous versions wich is a good thing. The only flaws in the game are the glitches in the graphics but hell you won't even notice them during the fight if you do you'll get your ass kicked :D And it's a shame that each character has only one fatality and some of them really suck, only take quan chi's that's a really bad one. But it's a must have game and I think it deals out a real fatality to the other fighting games at the moment.

Somewhat disappointing. |
| Gary LaPlant from Aberdeen, South Dakota, USA says (21/Feb/2003): |
Overall I was kinda disappointed at the fact that there wasn't a lot of attention paid to the details in the game. For example most of the fatalities are pretty simple. The only fatality that met my expectations was Raiden's. Shang Tsung's fatality was along the right lines, but I could've done without the green waves being being shot at his victims. I think they should've just stuck with having his victim glowing green kinda like when Kenshi does his telekenetic toss, and when he pounces on his victim to steal their souls it should've caused every limb to explode, including the head, and blood blood should've shot out of every part. But I could sit here and knitpick every little detail that was overlooked, and everything that could've been done to make the game a phenomenon. It seems to me that the midway team that put this together could've used some help in making it a complete success. But I've gotta say that I really enjoy the game and the graphics really kick a**. If you (Midway) are planning on making another, maybe you should give me a holler. That is if you want the game to be the best video game ever made. And that ain't no joke!!
|
AWSOME |
| CAT from TEXAS says (20/Feb/2003): |
I think that this game could have been a little better due to the fact that we are used to the choices of fatalities, and not to mention the babality, and friendships. I like the way the konquest mode was thrown in there but obviously if I am looking things up for it then it definetly has my attention.

a very brittish review |
| phil geldart from Wrexham, Wales, Great britain says (18/Feb/2003): |
lets get one thing clear before we go any further. this is the best mortal kombet of the series- i.e, very, VERY good. the various fighting styles, added to the whole 'outworld/earthrealm' backdrop just at to the character of the game. good points in brief- class combo system, and a good variety in styles and moves. bad points in brief- lazy graphics, lack of options when it comes to fatalities, konquest should be more like the the one in soul calibre/blade, and what is going on with bo' rai cho? get him outta there, asap!

its off the hesey my nesy foshzil my nezil |
| pete from new york, usa says (18/Feb/2003): |
this was agreat game i've been a mortal kombat fan since number 1. new graphics more blood and better moves the only bad thing about it is that liu kang died he was my favorite character with all his tight moves like his bicycycle kick and him turning into a dragon.but everything else is cool.sh#t midway why did you kill lui kang on the next one let him be on there now can you dig that sucka!!!!!!!!

i think the name says it all it just doesn't get any better than this |
| captain willie from cortez,colorado says (18/Feb/2003): |
well this is clearly the best mortal kombat game yet it just brings a sort of special ability on hand to know if we can do things like that. well i just a=can't wait for the next mortal kombaat to come out and they should make it like mortal kombat the gateway to out world well thats just my way of thanking all the things that mortal kombat has done. but if i might say if it wasn't for the blood i might not have bought the game but it will always be a hit with me.

Anthony Age 21, Its alright not like old MK though |
| John Anthony Norat JR. from Duluth Ga 30096 says (18/Feb/2003): |
Alright check this out.. ITs awasome, But its lacks 1.) Special moves unlike other MKs Their were many Specials, Fatalities, also COMBOS AND MOVMENT big issue to me.. not enough combos, plain and simple, and movement, my boy says he loves it but i don't i think you should have all 4 buttons on the l1 l2 r1 r2 not just 3. Hay im picky i know... but i say the thing that got me hooked ... Was the grahics I think their the Best the mortal kombat team has done so far!! good job i give you props

| Titch Gamer from UK says (16/Feb/2003): |
Ok ime a MK veteran and have been playing these games from the start i brought the ps2 copy of this game and it was well worth the £40 it cost me! the graphics are great and ime glad to see some new characters allthough my favorite is scorpian/sub-zerro. I dno wot the hell ppl are on about when the say it was a bad idea to kill off liu kang! its about time good move midway! all though killing scorpian in his ending and scraping the multi fatalities, babalities, brutalities etc was bad! good control system simple but still with the feel of mk moves. ok in short this game rocks and will last forever GO OUT AND BUY IT!

The Game Is The Best I Dont Care What U Think |
| A gamer from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada says (13/Feb/2003): |
The game is unbelieveable, like look at the great graphics and the sweet new characters! You also Got All the Koffins Witch hold a secret something in side that is untill you buy it. U earn money for winning fights and they got Konquest mode witch allows u to earn money when at the same time ur learning how to use ur player. The game rocks and that final!

MK hasnt seen a better game but ther are a few problems |
| SwEEneY from jersey city, new jersey says (12/Feb/2003): |
like most mk fans iv been with the series ever scince the begging and this is by far the best. im glad to see that its not the same ol mk game but that theyv made the story line seem realistic in a mk way and that the kharicter roster has changed a lil and isnt the same amount. its nice to see the good guys lose sumtimes. i also love the 3 fighting styles thing, i my self take escrima, kali sticks, and tea kwon do and its nice to see real styles being incorperated. the fakt they inkluded the forms of some of the kharicters was great and they really did represent the real styles very well. this game has great replay value n me n my friends never get bored with it. i also liked the way the kontrols were set up. there not to easy but not to hard. the only thing i had a lil problem with was the graphiks, while they arnt the worst they kud hav been better(like the graphics in doa3 )but theyr easily barable. it was also kool thta they had alot of kool stuff in the krypt. well over all the game is great but a lil tweek in the graphics wus hav made the game even better. 1

this games fighting style are of the hook |
| A gamer from Aurora Colorado says (12/Feb/2003): |
I think this is one of the most best game I ever seen in my 7 years of playing games. I strongly belive that anyone should be able to play this game. When my friend told me about this game I thought it was gonna be bad and did not think it was worth buying until I played it.
|
Worth the money. Go buy it! |
| Christian from New York, USA says (9/Feb/2003): |
Mortal Kombat is back!!!!! I've been a hardcore MK fan since game 1, and I must say I was really impressed with the graphics and gameplay of Deadly Alliance. A whole new level of Mortal Kombat, it is far more darker and realistic than the previous MK games. I couldn't believe they had the guts to kill off my favorite character, Liu Kang. I thought Liu Kang's death was different in a good way. Of course there are a couple of setbacks like 1 fatality per character, no stage fatalities, Quan Chi's pointless fatality...and I was kind of disappointed with the Krypt because most of the time you wasted koins on a picture...I was pleased with the Konquest Mode because it was a good way to teach people how to use the 3 different fighting styles of the characters, which I love about the game! Mostly Kool characters. The storyline is excellent, I possibly wouldn't have been able to come up with a better Mortal Kombat game myself...Keep up the good work Midway!!!
