Excellent game with a couple needed improvements | | A gamer says (14/Oct/2003): | Swingerz Golf is very addicting, be warned. Let me touch on a few aspects as well as comment on some other reviews I have read online.
I am going to only talk about this game in Tour mode, although there are a couple other modes to play, Tour mode represents a good 98% of what you will be playing in this game.
The courses, characters, and accessories (clubs, balls, etc...) are attained on an achievement basis and true to an RPG aspect game they are valued at different amounts meaning you can't use the best clubs with the best balls unless you have enough stars which are attained soley through winning. A serious reinforcement scheme going on here, it's great for learning and mastering this very rewarding game.
The courses are beautiful and when attained through the tough task of beating increasingly harder characters and tournaments a true appreciation for the course develop.
Gameplay:
The controls are easy to pick up, yet hard to master. Like anything worthwhile some time must be invested into mastering the controls, a child could pick the concept of the controls up in less than a minute
Graphics:
The graphics in my opinion are great with the system they are working with. Some complain that the characters look like they came out of N64 but in reality the characters are fine, I pay little attention to the characters.
Sound:
Music is upbeat which is nice because it's a golf game which inherently is slow. A lot don't like the music, what the hell else would you put in its place?
Now I'm going to get into a little more detailed description of things in the game I don't like.
The camera angles and transitions are absolutely terrible. I wouldn't say they detract from the game, but in no way shape or form do they add to the game. When you are teeing off, the camera sometimes faces the player and away from the course! (sometimes meaning like 50% of the time) and when you are putting often times you can't see if the ball goes in or where the pin it is.
I wish there was an easier way of putting together the right accessories at the menu screen, maybe a list of possible combinations would be nice, but now i'm just getting greedy I guess.
I wish you could do tour mode with more than 1 player, but possibly that ruins the nature of the game... but why not play seperately and place seperately and take the higher one, I don't know why they messed up so big on this aspect, this was a big mistake and I bet the development team at Eidos took some time to think about this one, I wish they just took a little bit more time.
It's arcade golf, it's fun, it's RPG style and it's easy to pickup but difficult to master. The game really does have all the makings of an addicting game which means value, you get your money's worth. You can spend weeks and maybe even months getting all the different things in the game, it really is an enjoyable experience and kudos to the team at Eidos (some of which came from Hot Shots from the psx) for coming up with a nice arcade golf game.
| good but needs more | | robert from randleman, nc says (22/Sep/2003): | I really enjoy arcade golf, and this game is not a total disappointment, but could use better graphics and sound. The characters are great for the beginner, but lack some details for older players.I would say that for children it would be a good game, but us older golf players need more detail.
| Fun..but repetitive. | | Trey Stewart from Wilmington, NC says (6/Dec/2002): | Swingerz golf was a purchase that I made in haste. I stood in the game aisle at the local game store and considered two arcade style golf games. The reason I chose Swingerz was it said "Fast-paced..." and "Real Golf Physics" on the back. "Real Golf Physics" may be right on, but "Fast-paced..." is a little far fetched. You spend a fair amount of time waiting to get to your next shot. Also, the voices of the crowd are very repetive. Saying the same things over and over. All in all I give this game a seven out of ten. If anyone out there has played a really fun golf game for either ps2 or gamecube, please send me an e-mail.
