The Scariest game in the series! |
| Rich from Riverside RI USA says (15/Aug/2003): |
This one is by far the scariest one in the series! The graphics and controls are exellent, The story is one of the best in the series, and the main characters are cool. This one will make you jump at shadows! The new monsters as well as the traditional tyrant are amazing. It is by far one of their signature masterpieces! The puzzles are mildly challenging, The team mode was a stroke of genius, and the story is killer. The fun factor gets better and better when you make progress. The final battle is a real nailbiter! I give it ten stars on the fright it generates alone! This one is a gem! I reccomend it wholeheartedly to fans of survival horror games!

CAPCOM scores a '10' with Zero! |
| Mark from Temecula, Ca USA says (4/Dec/2002): |
As a fan of the series since its release in 1995, I say that this is the best of the new. While not attaining to the level of tension and yes, FEAR, found in the original game ( that off-key piano in the basement STILL sends chills up my spine ) it excells in playability and variety. At LAST, we can drop an object if we don't need it, and the geniuses at Capcom made it sooo easy to find those objects when needed. Of course, you'll more than likely have to fight your way past the myriad freaks of nature seeking to add you to the Food Chain to get that much-needed cache of ammo, or whatever, but that's all part of the strategy. Having two characters to control ( i.e., keep from being eaten ) at the same time adds to the tension. This is what I like about this series. These are not simply shoot-everything-in-sight-ask-questions-later games; you waste your ammo, you die in gruesome ways. No, you have to plan your moves: do I send Billy into the room first, who has greater strength but not as fast, or do I send Rebecca, lighter of frame but quicker on the draw? Or do I send them both in and have them blast their way out? Except for a few situations, these are your choices throughout the game. Whenever possible, depending on the character's health, I usually sent Billy in to take the edge off the threat, with Rebecca right behind him to help finish it off. This worked especially well with the zombies and the Marcus-Thing: Billy is able to toss them back further than Rebecca, giving you that much more time to line up your shots. And in a game like this, every second counts! The graphics just keep getting better, to the point where the characters now react to each other and the dangers much more realistically: you've just blasted your umpteenth zombie, and as you make your way past your character's head and eyes turn to check it, which is EXACTLY what I would do. If I could change anything about the game, I'd add more areas where a monster LEAPS out at you without warning, such as when you open a door. Like that great scene in RE2 where you walk down a corridor, and if you get too close to the boarded-up windows the zombies GRAB you through them! As in all the RE games, the graphic violence is PART of the story, NOT the object, meaning they don't make the scenes intensely bloody just to see how many parents they can get sick. Its a SURVIVAL game, against impossible odds. I'll be back for more!

The Best damn game ever made. |
| (v)ä(\)¡äç from Aguadilla, P.R. says (22/Sep/2002): |
off course we could expect Resident Evil Zero to be the best one in the RE series. As a matter of fact I have gotten a few tips from a few close friends saying that REZ is the best one. We can expect that the game has good graphics as always, but what I'm still not sure about is the gameplay, but hey we can't expect other than the best from the best damn game ever made.

Resident Evil Zero |
| Dangermouse from Boston, MA says (19/Nov/2002): |
I Just Finished Resident Evil Zero and I gotta' tell ya', As unhappy as I am to admit this, it wasen't as good as I thought it's be.... The story-line anyway. The graphics and gameplay were nothing short of spectacular, what one could only expect from Capcom's long awaited prequel. (as it weren't enough that "Ayumi Hamasaki", japan's britteny Spears ((http://home.no.net/ayumi/index.htm)) modeled for the lead roll as Rebecca chambers. I won't spoil it for the people who haven't palyed it yet, and it was in no means a waist of money, I just though they would go deeper into Umberella's origin. I enjoyed the ability to play two characters at once, it actually worked out really well. The game's longer than the first three but it seemed a little to easy for me and I'm not that good ar RE games. But if your looking for gameplay, graphics, plot twists and allot more undead to kill, this game's all you'l need!! ********1/2

Expert ~RE` player so for u experts here is my review |
| Chad from Indiana,USA says (21/Jan/2003): |
A+ on the graphics really good texturing and shading.
B+ on the controls because we all know its hard getting used to gamecube controls that are a big difference from playstations.
B on the the camera angles yes they still are near the same as they always was but now some cameras actually pan with the characters which is really good.
A+ on the story line dont think they could have done a better job.
A+ on the creatures and zombies which by the way are stunning in detail has to be the best RE enemies ive seen yet.
Also added in this new RE is dual game play which allows u to us 2 characters at the same time.(Characters also can use comunication commands compared to "The Thing")
Only bad thing about RE zero is that u cant carry as many items as u once could which would have made it better if u had atleast 2 more slots.
Overall i give Resident Evil Zero a 10 outta 10 Good Work capcom.

Too much or not enough? |
| Jay from Topeka, KS, USA says (14/Apr/2003): |
This game packs a tough punch; hitting the survival-horror fans with explosions, suspense and fight scenes to...die for?(and that’s just the opening video). Aside from the cheesy phrases, RE0 is an excellent compliment to the already famous RE title. As far as the graphics go, RE.0 goes punch-for punch with the best of ‘em. The weapons, the once living zombies—heck, even the small weed you so casually step on--look almost life-like (except for perhaps the zombies). There is really not much more you can say besides the fact that RE.0 placed second in the graphic category of all the games produced last year. Though there have been mixed feelings regarding the removal of the item boxes from the game, I for one will stand and support the decision to allow players to arbitrarily drop items where they please. I, for once, felt no stress when I would come across a key item with a full inventory; the new system also saved me large chunks of time by allowing me to leave items in easily accessible rooms. The only beef I have with RE.0 is the over-used plot of fighting your way out of a creepy mansion. Yes, I’m aware this is a prequel; but the only possible reason I can see for even considering to create this addition to the RE series is to completely suck it for all it’s worth. This is when you know that the quality a series once had is beginning to fade, and it’s a sad thing to see. I consider myself to be a close follower of the series and I was sure (up until this game) that I knew the whole story of the S.T.A.R.S team: there was no reason to deepen the story any farther. Lately gamers (myself included) have been asking themselves the question, “Can there actually be to much of a great thing?”. However, I have no shame in admitting that I was, and will continue to be, the first in line at the local Electronics Boutique waiting for my reserved copy of the newest RE game to come in. There are pages more I could write describing how I feel about the title itself and the series as a whole, but I’ll spare you the time and just say this. Resident Evil will continue to top selling charts for the simple reason that people like the bah-jeezus scared out of them and RE has out done all other competition in that category. Just as well, it helps that the living dead who are scaring the “bah-jeezus” out of you look nothing short of real.

goodness gracious, great balls of fire... |
| matthew from indianapolis, indiana, USA says (28/Dec/2003): |
i got this game for christmas because i'm a really big RE fan. i've seen the movie, i hope the next one coming out soon will be good, i've played the games, but the only thing i have to say here is this. i came to this site looking for a good review to send my friend. but you people are all very negative towards the game. if you haven't got anything good to say about it.... don't say it at all. anyways.... i really like how smoothly the graphic drawling is in this game compared to the other games. it was magnificent. the sound effects and music was awesome. i also very much enjoyed how Capcom kept the moving from room to room sprite the same. you know, how when you open a door a door is shown and it opens. i also very much enjoyed how the backdrops were drawn. they were much better than RE:2 for N64. (i've played all possible RE games on N64). this game was a great gift and i appreciate all the hard work Capcom put into it. there are a few "software bugs", but i'll accept that, as the game was made by humans [we are not perfect]. it's a great game and i'd recommend it to anyone! :-)

What Can I say about Resident Evil 0, it is by far the greatest game I have ever played. The graphics are spectacular! TOP NOTCH! and the Story is Unbeleaveably good!! The gameplay is VERY good, and FUN. The two player co-operative play is the best!! It is also Very challengeing aswell, espechally compared to the last few RE titles. You REALLY have to think when you play zero, its not something ypou can buzz through with little effort!! All and All RE0 is a Perfect game and I highly reccommend it to ALL!!

BETTER THAN ALL THE REST!!!! |
| Justin from Pittsburgh says (27/Nov/2002): |
This game was the sweetest resident evil yet. The storyline explains a lot about how the virus was started. The graphics are just incredible. The controls could use a little work but with the greatness of this game WHO CARES!!!! The storyline was the greatest out of all the Resident Evil's. The two player game mode was the best idea I thought. I would have rated this game a higher score than 10 but it wouldn't let me. This game can be played over and over again because it was so awesome!!! The sound was the greatest the music is really scary. I am 18 and this games still scares me. This game will keep you on your feet and playing for at least a month. If everyone in the world had a Gamecube then everyone in the world would need this game. Since everyone doesn't I advise everyone who does to get this game. If it doesn't scare the crap out of you then you are a really hard person to scare. Play it and I guarantee you'll jump at least ten times throughout the whole game. If you have a Gamecube and don't own this game then get with the program and go get it NOW!!!

The best Resident Evil ever made. |
| Robert from Canton USA says (1/Dec/2002): |
I think resident evil 0 is the best one of them all.The graphics are awesome. There are a few kinks in the game but you eventually get over them. If you are a resident evil fan then you should get this one.In the game the carecters are new but I like them better than all the rest, except for Rebbeca. She sucks. Billy is the best of all the caracters in all the rest of the resident evil series. The game is very different than all the rest though. The sound in the game is pretty good but I hate the music. The zombies sound good but not the best along with all the other monsters. I only have to do a littlte more on the game then I beat it. The game is very fun and exciting. So if you are a resident evil fan then I encourage you to get resident evil 0!

This game Is madd sweet!! |
| A gamer from Nep,USA says (29/Dec/2002): |
I had just started playing resident evil when it had just come out for the 'cube. The first outing of re was definitly on of the best. After a weekend rental which scared the doodoo out of me i decided to save up my pennies to buy it. I now just bought re0 about two weeks ago and i just have to say one thing mmmmwwwaaahh! it is perfecto. The dude with the soprano voice has an evil vibe to him but his reason for revenge seems sort of noble.I just got to the second disk and the was the first dissapointment i found: the first disk was too short. hopefully the second disk will be longer. the graphics..mama mia! Billy's hair looks like he just took a shower and gelled it down. Rebecca gotta big 'ol butt! The scary surprises weren't as numerous as in the 'cube's re first outing. When i walked past that window in the hall in the first one i peed my pants. when the crows popped out of the window in re0 i noticed a pause in the game which ruined that experience. But beside's that it was real good. If your looking for a mind bending survivor game re0 will give you what you want.

Best game ever.....perfect graphics!!! |
| A gamer from marilia-sp, Brazil says (4/Feb/2003): |
I wasn't a resident evil fan, but after playing this one, i am. Perfect graphics and nice environment! I like the idea that the characters can work in team, that makes the game very awesome.
|
one of THE best resident evil ever made |
| chad D from USA says (12/Feb/2003): |
This game is awesome, forget the original resident evil’s on the ps1. This game beats the originals hands down. The only thing I did not like were the limited amount of slots you had. If at least one of the charters could hold 8 items it would be much easer to carry items and ammo. Another thing was, WHERE WERE THE ^%*& ITEM BOXES!!! I would rather use an item box than to leave the freckin items on the frecken ground. Yet another thing, Rebecca can be killed way way to easily.
One the bright side the graphics are awesome in every single way, the only comparison is the first resident evil for game cube. The Fact that the two charters must work together is a very good idea for this game. They should use the system of game play in future resident evils.
I would like to recommend this game to those who heard of the game but never played before. If it weren’t for the item boxes missing in the game I would have rated this a 10, but I just give this an 8 out of 10. Thank you for yet another wonderful game. Capcom, keep up the good work.

Zero rocks and rolls. |
| Kyle Golson from Dublin, OH USA says (2/Mar/2003): |
Leave it to Capcom to make up a prequal that attempts to explains something else when the player already know what happened. Sometimes it works...and sometimes, well, just read on.
Getting down to the basis of it, Resident Evil:Zero does rock. The new gameplay features like the abolishing of the trunk make it seem like 'Real Survivor' mode on the first Resident Evil that could make you pull your hair out. This is countered by the fact that you drop your stuff any and everywhere you want, you just have to remember where you put it...and then hope you can still retrieve it without getting your head chewed off...literally. Capcom throws another wrench in the gameplay by having you control both players and keeping both of them alive in order to beat the game. This can make even veteran Resident Evil players trip over themselves for a couple of hours when they realize that some of the puzzles cannot be solved without the presence of the team member. Face it. The only primma donnas here in this game will be the dead ones.
The only real problems with this game so far is the graphics and the story line. The graphics in my mind seem a little grainier than Gamecubes first Resident Evil. And the story line in my mind still does little to clear up what the something or other happened before Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine arrived on the scene. Save for Bravo Team landing and somehow setting the stage for the original Resident Evil, the plot still seem somewhat patched together with duck tape, and sometimes that can be worse than having the team go on seperate mission altogther.
The game could have had a higher score, but there was some much Capcom could of done with the game, like link it with the first Resident Evil and if the games were played in order a gamer would be able to unlock all sort of secrets the game would have been hiding. Still, with all the secrets in contains now, an owner will be playing this game more than once.
Overall, Resident Evil:Zero in just as scary at the first one, and that's alright. It just could be more if one looks hard enough.

Long Live The Zero |
| A gamer from Foresthill, Maryland, USA says (2/Dec/2003): |
This game is totally awsome! I have been entertained for hours playing it. No mistakes have caught my attention. I hope all you people who hate it buy a sissy book or something! This game is for real men!!! It is challenging and will make a great gift for all kinds of people. Rebecca is a perfect partner for billy despite what critics might think. No game so far has surpassed this one, and that is A DEFINATE FACT!! ANd guess what, it will probably be cheaper to buy for your teen now than later on, and that is another strong fact. In other words, get this game now, or face the shame of being the only one in town who hasn't got this very, very cool game. The leeches are freaky looking, and you will be freaked out by the music that is playing during all the fight scenes.
