Too much or not enough? |
| Jay from Topeka, KS, USA says (14/Apr/2003): |
This game packs a tough punch; hitting the survival-horror fans with explosions, suspense and fight scenes to...die for?(and that’s just the opening video). Aside from the cheesy phrases, RE0 is an excellent compliment to the already famous RE title. As far as the graphics go, RE.0 goes punch-for punch with the best of ‘em. The weapons, the once living zombies—heck, even the small weed you so casually step on--look almost life-like (except for perhaps the zombies). There is really not much more you can say besides the fact that RE.0 placed second in the graphic category of all the games produced last year. Though there have been mixed feelings regarding the removal of the item boxes from the game, I for one will stand and support the decision to allow players to arbitrarily drop items where they please. I, for once, felt no stress when I would come across a key item with a full inventory; the new system also saved me large chunks of time by allowing me to leave items in easily accessible rooms. The only beef I have with RE.0 is the over-used plot of fighting your way out of a creepy mansion. Yes, I’m aware this is a prequel; but the only possible reason I can see for even considering to create this addition to the RE series is to completely suck it for all it’s worth. This is when you know that the quality a series once had is beginning to fade, and it’s a sad thing to see. I consider myself to be a close follower of the series and I was sure (up until this game) that I knew the whole story of the S.T.A.R.S team: there was no reason to deepen the story any farther. Lately gamers (myself included) have been asking themselves the question, “Can there actually be to much of a great thing?”. However, I have no shame in admitting that I was, and will continue to be, the first in line at the local Electronics Boutique waiting for my reserved copy of the newest RE game to come in. There are pages more I could write describing how I feel about the title itself and the series as a whole, but I’ll spare you the time and just say this. Resident Evil will continue to top selling charts for the simple reason that people like the bah-jeezus scared out of them and RE has out done all other competition in that category. Just as well, it helps that the living dead who are scaring the “bah-jeezus” out of you look nothing short of real.

This one is definately not the greatest... |
| The Ronnerman from Atl, GA says (7/Apr/2003): |
I bought this game back in November when it was released, but b/c I had so many other new games to play I put this one off til now. It's really not that great. The graphics are superb, fantastic even, but not as good as the RE 1 remake that came out a whole year earlier. Sound is also great. No complaints there either. It plays just like all the other RE titles which a lot of ppl don't like, but I love it cuz that's what I'm used to. So it is also good. Even tho capcom tried a new 'partner system', it works well once you're used to it. So why is this game kinda sucky?
Here goes. ALL YOU DO IS SOLVE PUZZLES!! THAT SUCKS!! I've been playing now for about 5 hrs and killed maybe 15 zombies, or at least it feels that way. Cutscenes are few and far b/w so I have seen little of the fabled story line. It's like playing a full demo that doesn't tell you anything. (unlockables suck as well) The game consists of doing like 3 obscure, off-the-wall, non-obvious puzzles in a row, killing like 3 zombies, rinse, repeat. VERY boring. Also item management sucks the big fatty. You don't get item boxes. I've been using a strategy guide and the best that IT comes up with is leaving items in a common place you visit frequently. WHY NOT JUST HAVE A STUPID ITEM BOX!! At least you could go into a save room and have all your stuff there instead of spending 10 min running back to the main area to get a key that you didn't need til now. Even the official strategy guide doesn't tell you to do it any other way. Item boxes would take care of all that backtracking. Also who cares about Rebecca. She's cool and cute and voice acting is good, but she doesn't deserve to be the main character. She was just some secondary from the first RE. As far as prequels go, this one just doesn't do the job. It feels like Capcom just wanted to put out another RE title for a quick buck b/c Cube sales have not been stellar lately, and that's very sad. I will be trading this game in soon. To sum it up: No story. No killin' zombies. Too much back tracking. Too many and too frequent difficult puzzles. Not enough cut scenes. Crappy item management. I got all excited about this title b/c I've played and beat all RE's from the beginning...except for this one. It's so boring, I just can't play it long enough to finish it. Nintendo's future on the shelf next to my OTHER consoles rest wholy on Resident Evil 4, the return of Leon, and P.N.03. I'm in trouble if this is all Nintendo has to offer. If so, I want my $150 back.

Evil uncovered |
| Reh from America says (15/Mar/2003): |
Finally it is all explained in detail and how it happened. The suspense of this game is brilliant you always wonder what will happen next is there a zombie lerking around the next corner. The sounds the graphics and thegameplay make this game almost seem like it was real and that you are actually Rebecca or Billy. If your new to resident evil the easy mode won't disappoint you with a nice ride to the end of the game, but if your an expert like me you should try hard mode to to get your brain working. As you have probably heard there is a new character-zapping system which allows you to be Rebecca or Billy at any time I personnally thought this was a great idea because i have most enjoyed taking control of two people at the same time.
If you a resident evil die hard you love this game to bits and if your a newy lock the doors turn off the lights and prepered to be scared *&^*^$< remove me > at < remove me > at .

| Phill from England says (10/Mar/2003): |
I've played every resident evil game out at least twice this game rules them all. The character zap feature absolutely kicks but and the use of molotov $#< remove me > at !tails is great the first throwing weapon on res evil. The hunting rifle helps but 2 shots is annoyong but it means both beccy and billy have a shotgun (or rifle). Annyone thincking of buying this dont think again get it NOW!

Zero rocks and rolls. |
| Kyle Golson from Dublin, OH USA says (2/Mar/2003): |
Leave it to Capcom to make up a prequal that attempts to explains something else when the player already know what happened. Sometimes it works...and sometimes, well, just read on.
Getting down to the basis of it, Resident Evil:Zero does rock. The new gameplay features like the abolishing of the trunk make it seem like 'Real Survivor' mode on the first Resident Evil that could make you pull your hair out. This is countered by the fact that you drop your stuff any and everywhere you want, you just have to remember where you put it...and then hope you can still retrieve it without getting your head chewed off...literally. Capcom throws another wrench in the gameplay by having you control both players and keeping both of them alive in order to beat the game. This can make even veteran Resident Evil players trip over themselves for a couple of hours when they realize that some of the puzzles cannot be solved without the presence of the team member. Face it. The only primma donnas here in this game will be the dead ones.
The only real problems with this game so far is the graphics and the story line. The graphics in my mind seem a little grainier than Gamecubes first Resident Evil. And the story line in my mind still does little to clear up what the something or other happened before Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine arrived on the scene. Save for Bravo Team landing and somehow setting the stage for the original Resident Evil, the plot still seem somewhat patched together with duck tape, and sometimes that can be worse than having the team go on seperate mission altogther.
The game could have had a higher score, but there was some much Capcom could of done with the game, like link it with the first Resident Evil and if the games were played in order a gamer would be able to unlock all sort of secrets the game would have been hiding. Still, with all the secrets in contains now, an owner will be playing this game more than once.
Overall, Resident Evil:Zero in just as scary at the first one, and that's alright. It just could be more if one looks hard enough.

Play part 1 first! |
| jmj from Kentland, Indiana, USA says (19/Feb/2003): |
Ah, there are so many ups and downs to this game...where do I begin? No.1 nightmare: inventory. As I'm sure you all noticed, there is no civilized management in inventory to this game. You must leave them on the floor. And things like hookshot, shotgun, grenade launcher, etc, takes up roughly 1/3 of your inventory all together. If it weren't for the zapping system, I would lose my mind. The zapping system gives you the ability to switch between two characters, Billy and Rebecca, at any moment using the "x" button. You should really play part 1 first, to understand the story-line and acheive full effect of this game. If you don't know the story-line, a lot can be ruined. Luckily there were no zombies that could come alive again, all mean.:P. There seems to be an advantage on easy mode because there's an over-abundance of ammo right from the get-go. Real beginner's level is normal mode. Not to mention the fun and exciting secrets after the game...that's right, i said after...just freshen up on item-finding skills. Graphics are obviously top of the line here, so nuff said. The sound will make you shiver, so if you have it in stereos behind you, it'll make you turn around repeatedly to make sure there are no zombies. Gameplay: a little on the gory side, just how i like it! Unfortunately, this game will get very boring right after you beat it, unless you find new secrets in that dumb mini-game. Originality is all inside. If you comprehend the story-line as much as me, then huzzah to you! value: 9. Well, I think that's 200 words already. Over and out.

one of THE best resident evil ever made |
| chad D from USA says (12/Feb/2003): |
This game is awesome, forget the original resident evil’s on the ps1. This game beats the originals hands down. The only thing I did not like were the limited amount of slots you had. If at least one of the charters could hold 8 items it would be much easer to carry items and ammo. Another thing was, WHERE WERE THE ^%*& ITEM BOXES!!! I would rather use an item box than to leave the freckin items on the frecken ground. Yet another thing, Rebecca can be killed way way to easily.
One the bright side the graphics are awesome in every single way, the only comparison is the first resident evil for game cube. The Fact that the two charters must work together is a very good idea for this game. They should use the system of game play in future resident evils.
I would like to recommend this game to those who heard of the game but never played before. If it weren’t for the item boxes missing in the game I would have rated this a 10, but I just give this an 8 out of 10. Thank you for yet another wonderful game. Capcom, keep up the good work.

Best game ever.....perfect graphics!!! |
| A gamer from marilia-sp, Brazil says (4/Feb/2003): |
I wasn't a resident evil fan, but after playing this one, i am. Perfect graphics and nice environment! I like the idea that the characters can work in team, that makes the game very awesome.

Best Resident Evil Yet!!!!!0 flaws |
| Nathan Mullins from Kentucky, USA says (29/Jan/2003): |
The only reason this game gets a 9 instead of a 10 is the lack of the amount of guns in the game. I never have found the camera awkward at any time. Game informer gave this game the graphics of the year so that is saying a lot. The sound is always great on any resident evil game and the fun factor makes you come back to get those extra guns. This game is as origanal as a resident evil game gets. This game is great, if you dont already have it get your booty off of the couch and go buy it...NOW!!!!!

Expert ~RE` player so for u experts here is my review |
| Chad from Indiana,USA says (21/Jan/2003): |
A+ on the graphics really good texturing and shading.
B+ on the controls because we all know its hard getting used to gamecube controls that are a big difference from playstations.
B on the the camera angles yes they still are near the same as they always was but now some cameras actually pan with the characters which is really good.
A+ on the story line dont think they could have done a better job.
A+ on the creatures and zombies which by the way are stunning in detail has to be the best RE enemies ive seen yet.
Also added in this new RE is dual game play which allows u to us 2 characters at the same time.(Characters also can use comunication commands compared to "The Thing")
Only bad thing about RE zero is that u cant carry as many items as u once could which would have made it better if u had atleast 2 more slots.
Overall i give Resident Evil Zero a 10 outta 10 Good Work capcom.

Possibly the Best Game Ever Created! |
| Chris from Cal, Sacramento says (21/Jan/2003): |
When I first herd of the Resident Evil series I immediately thought of a science fiction horror game. Filled from head to toe with gore. Although I soon received the full picture, that it is a logic filled survival horror, with a kick. Zero is not an exception to brilliance. This game is a full glass of pure gaming joy, and then some. The Character zaping has been completely perfected. The game play is classic Resident Evil goodness. The graphics are crystal clear as well as the picture is rounded. The drama and genre suck you into the story line.
The realism makes you part of the game. The weapons are more realistic than ever, and the theory backs it up. The game packs enough extras to keep you coming back for more. Being an original tester, this games making me lose my sense of reality. The only thing I would change is the fact that once you start a file on a difficulty you can't change it. Well that is if I can't figure it out yet, by my i.Q that could be a reason. So If anyone knows how, please end my suffering and tell me. Well those are my comments on this perfect game. Keep up the good work Capcom and Nintendo.

Zombie-killing, weapon-bearing, hot-chick-viewing fun! |
| Reina from Bitburg, Germany says (20/Jan/2003): |
Resident Evil Zero rocks the GameCube console with an admirable barrage of monsters, weapons, movies, and leeches [yes, leeches].
Join S.T.A.R.S. med. officer Rebecca Chambers and escaped convict Billy Cohen as they are the first to live through the horror caused by the t-virus.
The game uncovers the roots of the Resident Evil origin and the creation of the nightmare. You are offered high-graphics, good surrounding, and, for the first time in RE history, co-operative playing. Yep, switch between Rebecca and Billy for more strategy and puzzle solving. PLus, it's really cool when you can hammer away at zombies with the hangun, and knowing that Billy's right behind you, letting shotgun rounds fly.
If the game has a weak-point, it's the bosses, enemies, minimum difficulty, and the ending. Many of the bosses and enemies are mutated animals [bats, monkeys, etc.], and it's just more appealing to gun down zombies than things you would normally find in the zoo. Another minus is the game's difficulty. Sure, 'medium' and 'hard' are a greater challenge, but I have a hunch that most people will be staying on the 'easy' setting.
The ending is good, nonetheless, and it is a happy one [spoiler alert!], but it just leaves you wanting more.
But, beating the game on harder levels will unlock better weapons and a bonus-game, so stay on your toes!
It's a great game, and it's puzzles are mostly logical and just require some memory and common sense. People who have intelligence will find this to be very enjoyable and forfilling.

The Best! |
| Mario Macpui from Honduras says (9/Jan/2003): |
To be really honest at first I thought that this game was going to be wierd since you didn't count with an item box and controlling the 2 characters at once seemed kind of hard. That is all in the past now because now I believe that RE Zero is one of the best games around. It's graphics are just awesome and the story line really helps you understand the RE saga. The whole item box issue is no big deal since know you can leave items almost wherever you want, saving you lots of time and long walks to the item boxes. The fact that you can control both characters at the same time is what gives this game its edge. I mean all of us enjoy killing zombies, did you guys ever thought that you could shoot the magnum gun and the rocket launcher to a single zombie and watch how its head is blown off and its body is burning all at the same time. Plus the leeche hunter game is excellent. You are going to have hours of fun with this one, trying to get all the leeches and staying alive at once is pretty hard, but once you complete it it's very rewarding. That rank A infinite ammo prize is great for causing mayhem in the main game. Especially after you have unlocked the second magnum gun and both characters have the magnum gun at the same time. This game is just awesome, whether you buy the game or just rent it you are going to want to keep it. This is a solid 10 and as I said before is one of the best games around (to be sincere it's one of the best games to hit the Gamecube).

One of the Best Games I Ever Played!!!! |
| A gamer from Honduras says (5/Jan/2003): |
RE Zero is one of the best games to come to the 'Cube. It's graphics are perfect and the story line is Great. I really enjoyed playing as both caracters, mainly Billy, since he acts and looks pretty cool. My only complains about the game are the part when the crows come in through the window and the game pauses (this makes the surprise form the crows not scary at all) and the fact that the you can not have a real fight with the Tyrant (you fight with him 2 times in the game but you don't actually defeat him since he only falls to the grounds and as in previuos RE titles he probably gets up and just walks away). But even with this facts the game is still great and I recomend it to everyone who likes RE.

AWESOME! |
| Usagi Kusanagi from Texas, USA says (4/Jan/2003): |
I loved this game!!! I've been waiting forever for Capcom to remake the Resident Evil series and now they are. I'm just waiting for the rest to be finished! But I loved the graphics and the gameplay and storyline was great! Just sad to see Billy and Rebecca split.

The Coolest game i have ever played in my life!! |
| Evan Smith from newport, California says (1/Jan/2003): |

This game Is madd sweet!! |
| A gamer from Nep,USA says (29/Dec/2002): |
I had just started playing resident evil when it had just come out for the 'cube. The first outing of re was definitly on of the best. After a weekend rental which scared the doodoo out of me i decided to save up my pennies to buy it. I now just bought re0 about two weeks ago and i just have to say one thing mmmmwwwaaahh! it is perfecto. The dude with the soprano voice has an evil vibe to him but his reason for revenge seems sort of noble.I just got to the second disk and the was the first dissapointment i found: the first disk was too short. hopefully the second disk will be longer. the graphics..mama mia! Billy's hair looks like he just took a shower and gelled it down. Rebecca gotta big 'ol butt! The scary surprises weren't as numerous as in the 'cube's re first outing. When i walked past that window in the hall in the first one i peed my pants. when the crows popped out of the window in re0 i noticed a pause in the game which ruined that experience. But beside's that it was real good. If your looking for a mind bending survivor game re0 will give you what you want.

Tight Game |
| Jonathan from Mississippi says (26/Dec/2002): |
Game was pretty bad. The graphics kicked ace. The only problem was the magnum came into play too late in the game and you didn't get to have fun goin' around blastin' off Zombies' heads. Need to extend the series.
|
Fresh Game made for RE gamers !! |
| Philippe from Montreal, Canada says (20/Dec/2002): |
THE GOOD: The graphic are pretty good, also the two caracters mode and the storyline. I really lked the fact that you can trade and drop an items whit both caracters. It makes it better than the others RE games. But in overall it is a pretty good games. I wish that Capcom will extend the serie after re-making the old RE game.
THE BAD: I think that there were a miss of monters. In the first RE, you were fighting against snakes, shark, plants, spiders, an unbeatable zombie (old lady) featuring the final boss. In RE0, the monsters are not that original from the previous games.. The thing I dislike the most is when you enter in an area and you hear the zombie walking and breathing whitout seeing it. They should put a view to see where he is because you walk a little bit and he jump on you !! I know it's a part of the game but...c'mon !! (it's alway been hard to control your caracter in a RE game) It stupid when your parther is not automaticaly swithing weapons after wasting all is ammo during a combats...
MY SUMMARY: For me, RE0 is really a solid survival horror update complete with beautiful graphics and a moody atmosphere.I think that RE0 is diffrent than the rest of the series. Why? surely because of the two characters mode. The second major addition is the ability to drop items whenever you want so you can imagine the freedom gained with this option. As usual, it's still scary... There are enough hidden goodies to keep coming back for more. The graphic are wonderfull, probably better than ever. The atmospheric is nicely done all around, Capcom uses silence at times to scare, which is brilliant.
