Genius, let down by poor controls.13059

Josh from Buckinghamshire, england says (17/Dec/2002):
Medal of honour: frontline, as with all medal of honour games blends first person shooting with the historical background of world war two. From the opening cutscene you can see that medal of honour is going to give the same results as the previous instalments, but will they be better or worse ?

The opening level see's you reinacting the famous ohmaha beach landing and from the word go your pitched into a frantic firefight with german forces. Medal of honour has returned.

The game has a fabulous one player storyline with locations varing from the open farmland of holland to the broken ruins of a town in Arnham, the objectives are fairly linear and, as with the other medal of honour games, it's a matter of blasting your way through the levels with tasks such as rescuing pined down soilders dropped in to make things interesting.

The weapons are all beautifuly designed and great fun to use, the M1 gerand fires like a dream and the Panzershrek fires like any rocket laucher should, with a BOOM!! Authentic reload animations do, at first, make the game seem slow but after a few levels of play you can see that they enhance the feel of ww2 combat.

The sound effects are complemented by an orchestral score straight from any ww2 film worth its salt and the crackle as enemy fire whistles past your head as you assault german gun emplacements goes a long way to adding to the mood of the game.

Graphics are fairly standard with characters having realistic motion but a certain jerkiness that shows how useless EA's debuggers are. The levels are well layed out but there is little opertunity to explore and no real freedom as there was with the latest Pc installment.

The gameplay is compleatly addictive, you can sit and button bash for hours without tiring of pumping rounds into unsuspecting germans and the system of getting medals for compleating each section with a GOLD rating does give a prolonged, if not weak lifespan.

The main problem is the control system which has been left as a near direct port of playstation controls badly melded with a gamecube controler. Again after a few levels of play you become at one with the niggly controls but there is noway near the ammount of presicion as in other shoot em ups on the cube such as 007's Nightfire.

Multiplayer is fun if you have four mates but the lack of bots does limit the ammount of time you can play for, extra characters can be earnt which does give the multiplayer a longer lifespan, after some time on the game i was rewarded with being able to play as an old lady which made it all worth while....sort of anyway.

There is no real origionality because there are 3 or four predecesers which have, so to speak 'been there done that' but if this is your first visit to the MOH world, then you wil enjoy everylast german grenade tosed at you, every last sniper and everylast foot soilder charging you whilst firing from his hip. If the game had been in production for longer rather than just pre packaged in time for a christmas launch then it would have been a bigger hit. That and the fact that EA's de-buggers have no idea that in real life, you can walk through walls and body's don't sink into the floor........

one of the greatest war specticals ever concieved!!!!23397

Pauly Shelton from Romeoville IL,60446 Will County says (14/May/2003):
From the moment i started storming the beaches of normandy i knew this was going to be an experience to be cheerished!!!From the thunderouse sounds of enemy shells pounding non-stop to the exactness of the ww2 scenary and uniforms this game is a war
mongers dream come true. The control is to get used to,but once accomplished the fighting will be non-stop and the enemy will not give in. The graphics are as clean as a baby's behind as you battle your way through nazi terain and crawl your way into some of the greatest battles ever to be concieved in a videogame!!But where this game really shines is in its unbelievably movie like quality soundtrack. The soundtrack is so well concieved it can easily compeat with some of the bigger hollywood production films {and that is not an understatement}, it draws you into the game with so much emotion and intensity you would swear you were
actually controlling a scene from saving private ryan!! After storming the beaches of normandy and pushing the enemy back, you are then rewarded with actual scenes and footage from ww2; and are then given missions based on factual information and missions that were actually performed by secret intelligence officers and united state's spy's during that period of the 2nd ww.I can find few draw backs in this game, but they do exist. For one,the lack of check points {there are none} can result in some excruciating and painfull moments as you are then forced {once you die} to start back at the begining of a level after 45 minutes of successfull playing time can lead to some back braking moments and repetative gameplay. Also the fact that you are on a path the whole game as apposed to free roaming can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the patience and preference of the person who is playing it. One more main draw back is the absence of friendly fire, which is common in all wars is not in existence in frontline. Other then these few minor flaws, metal of honor:frontline will go down in history as one of my all time greatest and most appreciated gameplaying experiences i have ever endored!

Medal of Honor owns!!!23397

A gamer from Albany,Georgia says (26/Mar/2005):
My first experience with this game was AWESOME! I rememer I FINALLY got a GC late 2003 and it came with Medal of Honor:Frontline. the game name sounded familiar but i had never played it, i saw it in my room when I woke up, and i hooked it up and began playin at about 5:00 am. The game is the BEST WW2 game EVER! 1 player is awesome! And it can be very tense sometimes. Multiplayer is also fun as hell! U people r just spoiled haters, so just grab a couple close friends and have fun!
Medal of Honor:Frontline became an INSTANT classic 4 us in multiplayer. Cuz personlally, theres nothin better snipin the livin crap out of ur friends, but some of the multi player levels suck but mostly there good. And this game grabs u and refuses to let go, the first day i played it i played it 10 hours STRAIGHT! NO BREAKS! It was TOO fun to let go, but there r two downfalls, 1:D-day would've had the ULTIMATE game experience if there were more americans on the beach (and u see a great number of them die) that would be sadder and would make u feel as if u were on the beaches of Normandy. and 2:the second downfall is that the game ends...And i thirst for more Medal of Honor!!!!Unfortunately, i dont think "Rising sun" lived to its predecessor. The game was short as hell, the levels werent as fun, and the guns werent that cool and the classical frontline guns looked wierd as hell, and the war in Japan wasn't HALF as interesting as the war in Germany. But it's multiplayer and
co-op kinda make up for its "OK" 1 player mode. But overall, Medal of Honor:Frontline owns!!!So i STRONGLY suggest u buy this game, and its really cheap now!And if u enjoyed MOH:frontline ALOT and u havent seen SAVING PRIVATE RYAN(its a movie),WATCH IT!!!I watched it yesterday,March 25,2005. I LUVED IT!!!ITs so cool because so many scenarios r EXACTLY like MOH:frontline!!! If u dont mind graphic violence and occasional gore, THEN WATCH IT!!!

The greatest game of all time.21389

gerard finnegan from carrickmacross, ireland says (15/Apr/2003):
At first i thought the controls were a bit dodgey but once you get used to it it's fine. I love the way it's so realistic and the guns are all authentic. The only thing that annoys me is that your rocket launcher is really slow at reloading but the enemies ones reload really quickly. This and the fact that there is no silent sniper rifle and it gives away your position when the point is that it's supposed to be silent and secretive are the only reason that it doesn't get full marks. I would also love to be able to blow off the heads of my own comrades. Some things dont make sense like every time i get a high accuracy and low ammount of injuries i always seem to get a bronze medal and when i just fire everywhere and get crap accuracy and loads of injuries i get a gold. I would also like to have the option of getting into cars insteat of having to walk everywhere. The game seems really orignal. I really like the way everything looks exactly right and realistic in the 1st level. I would like to be able to look at some form of a map for the level in the pause menu because it can be really annoying when you're in a dark room an you don't know where the hell you are or how to get out.

GameCubes version of TimeSplitters 1...Kinda...15080

William from Medina, Ohio, USA says (8/Jan/2003):
The controls are great everybody! You just have to make sure to go into options and change the 'Invert Axis' to off. That will save you some pain. However, you must do it everytime. This is like TimeSplitters 1 for PS2 rushed and could have been better but is still a classic. Except TimeSplitters 1 had GREAT multiplayer and well, poor single player. Metal of Honor goes the other and has FANTABLOUS single player but needs a lot of work on the multiplayer. I think that if there is another on the multiplayer will come around. Just the ability tohave bots in multiplayer would have made it 10x better. Beyond that I say buy it but at the same time buy TimeSplitters 2 for your PS2 so when your buddies come over you can play some great 4 player action with 10 bots. Metal of Honor is for those of us gamers who stay up into the wee hours of the morning playing single player games or as right playing it instead of doing a 25oo word research paper due tomorrow! Well enjoy it is worth your $50!

So close to perfection yet.....31598

Richard Galloway from Guildford, UK says (4/Sep/2003):
MOH is by far the best 'shoot 'em up' I have ever played. The controls are tricky to get used to and they take weeks to master. The graphics are superb (despite a bit of a problem with the AI from time to time) and the sound is so good you will want to either upgrade your surround sound kit or buy a starter combo just for this game.
The multiplayer is a real let down, but fear not; the EA guys are fine tuning this problem for the sequel 'Rising Sun's so there really are no excuses not to buy the sequel. As a one player game it is basically second to none bar Goldeneye which only pips it to the post due to the Bond game being so unique at the time of it's release. Obviously, put them side by side and Rareware's epic achievement pales in comparison today but this is a compliment to MOH rather than an insult to Goldeneye.
In one word. Fantastic!

I Promise You, REVENGE!!!37118

Christopher Alexandre from Jersey says (20/Dec/2003):
Now I understand to myself how my stepfather felt when he was in the war, one good game and one which many people would remember. I do understand though that some of the stuff which is featured in the game wasn't featured in the war but it doesn't matter though cause that as well made the game stunning as well. My favourite weapon is the Colt 4.5 and the Thompson, cause I've experienced these weapons before and I find them excellent. The thing which I dislike though is that when you choose an easy skill the German Enemies take you down in a matter of seconds when in a team. Overall I think this is a great game for rememberance and one which would be ideal for talk abouts. If you want to experience how it felt during World War II then this is one game you'll like.

Too many bugs...20462

Lee from Canada says (2/Apr/2003):
I really liked this game at first, I thought it was really fun, and couldn't turn it off, then I found the first bug, then, a second, and while me and my friend were playing multi player, a third, seems like back then you could walk through certain walls, and never be able to find you way out!!! Must have been some top secret military project!? Wicked, eh?! Not really, try trying to finish a level for over an hour, finally almost getting there, then passing through a wall, and getting stuck walking around for half an hour trying to find a way out finally having to reset your console and start the level all over again. Really good concept, but way to many bugs!!!

Excellent . Incredibly realistic . Brilliant sounds and effects. Scary!!!18023

danielle from Ireland says (22/Feb/2003):
This game is THE best World War II game I have ever played! Its so realistic and you are on the edge of your seat the whole way. The controls are quite hard at the start but you get used to them quickly. Brilliant soundtrack. The characters are unbelievably real looking , and the backing sounds are amazing. The one thing that is REALLY annoying is that you can get as far as the first machine gun on the beach and if you die there you have to start in the water AGAIN!! so take it from me and DONT die there! A totally amazing game.its unfortunate about the controls and the fact that i had to stop playing every few minutes cos its so tedious.

Anyone who proclaims this game as fantastic epitomizes the word SMACKTARD36869

Hitler from Sao Paolo, Brazil says (12/Dec/2003):
This is not the best war game ever nor is it sublimely realistic. The fact that they don't get some of the basic elements right doesn't help matters. Don't get me wrong this isn't an absolutely terrible game but for the love of god crawl out of the hole that you've been living in the last 5 years and try some of the much better games out there. Take the time and play the myriad WWII games, ones with slightly fewer bugs, better gameplay and for the love of god easier controls. Since I have nothing else to say to any of the smacktards out there I will close with Sieg Heil.

Best War Game I ever played31050

Anonymous from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada says (26/Aug/2003):
I was adicted for hours on end playing this game, It's so realistic and the missions are very well planned out, U get to have so many cool guns, and cool maps. This game is better than any medal of honor game I ever played, the graphics are awesome too! The sound on this game is very realistic and should be played very loud. The gameplay is very easy esp. if you put it on Classic controls at the very begining of the game, but advanced controls give u better gameplay. This game so fun you'll never want to stop! Overall, This Game Rules!! :D

Whoever give's this game less than a 7 is an idiot30932

SAM FISHER from California, USA says (24/Aug/2003):
This game is full of great graphics, many weapons, and being able to take over machine guns in a church and other places where nobody can hurt u is the best. U jst full on auto those nazis. Also, it has a bit of battlefield 1842 or whatever, because u can hijack the jet and get rides with a disguise. If u want a multiplayer, this is not the best but that is what socom: navy seals is for. I say that this is the best game ever made and it definitely beats ne sports games that ea has made. All in all, THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Good start...13778

Joe from Michigan, USA says (27/Dec/2002):
This game has good graphics, good sound effects, and a decent weapon selection. I love the single player although people will shoot you through windows that you can't see through, and guys will shoot at you even when they can't see you. Lock-on would have been a good option, but the multiplayer mode just kills the game. I would suggest not using multiplayer because there are no bots, you don't have enought options, and there is no game that did quite so well on multiplayer as Perfect Dark, and that game is on a cartridge!

One of the worst WW2 shooters ever!37948

Schreiber from Dormund, Germany says (5/Jan/2004):
1.MOHF is full of bugs, like you can walk through certain walls or you can walk into a Wall and couldnīt get out of there.
2.A German can die very quick but the AMERICAN HERO is can take thousants bullets and is even able to walk.
I tested it, i walked in front of a guard and he shot a whole MP40 clip into my body. I was still alive(on easy and medium skill). This is not realistic. And remember: more American Soldiers died than German soldiers during WW2, and hereīs a American who can kill houndrets of Germans.

One of the best games ever!18744

samba from East yorkshire, England says (6/Mar/2003):
I think that medal of honour is a one of the best games ever! It is really realistic and gives you a very good idea of what a real war would have been like. It has brilliant graphics and is packed with none stop ultimate gaming. It also teaches you team work and challenges you to charge through the battle field just sooting to stay alive. But on the other hand i thought the levels were a bit small and that they should have been more soldiers in the field.

AWESOME18744

WOOTWOOT from Australia says (24/Feb/2003):
I thought the game was really realistic, and had great sound effects. The only thing i thought was missing, was a multiplayer section, maybe next time.I think also the levels were a bit long and repetative. Although i loved every minute of it, sometimes it got a little boring. In the next medal of honour i hope these sorts of problems will be sorted out and we can enjoy games like this one even more.
