The best game in the universe25977

Vitaliy from Michigan says (22/Jun/2003):
I realy liked this game because the graphics were awsome. Some of the sound effects were not as good as I thought they would be.The game would be much better if it had neo and trinity in it. The game should be a bit harder because it is easy to beat. In some parts of the game it does not show a big description of what's going on but you can still easily figure out what to do. The coolest part of the game is the focus. it is cool when you run on walls and shoot at the same time.this game really brought out the best part of me. At the minute i started playing it i got pulled into it. I think that the fifty bucks i spent i think it was very well worth it.I also thougt the hacking system was very cool.My favorite level was the unexpected arival. This was one of the best games I have played in a while.

This game was absolutely amazing25994

Robin from Vancouver says (22/Jun/2003):
Enter the matrix is the best game i have ever played, it has everything from hand on hand fights to car chases. I recomend anybody to buy this game! There are also many levels that you need to beat in this game, and i stayed up all night playing this game. It also has this hacking mode, for those computer geeks out there waiting for a challenge.

Not another "movie-based-game"!?25045

Pasukaru from The Hague, The Netherlands says (9/Jun/2003):
Well it is but actually it isn't! I'm really not fond of movie-based-games but "Enter the Matrix" is a story on it's own (if you didn't know that already). Okay the game itself is quite allright but even with the two characters you can choose to play(Niobe and Ghost) the game is pretty short. You can easily finish the game (w/ one Char.) within 7 hours! If you want to play the other characters story, well of course the story is the same but you've gotta do everything ALL OVER only this time you do it with a different character. Some scenes are different though but not much I tell you. The graphics in this game are average. It is certainly no "Splinter Cell" but realize this: in "Enter the Matrix" there is by far more action and bigger rooms and all that so the graphics can't be that good... Anyways I'm gonna talk about the "Focus" effect 'cause first of all I won't be the first and second: we all seen it in "Max Payne". On to the sound FX. I thought they were great except for the music (you can turn it off!). I found it very annoying. I think there was supposed to be some sort of "tune" when you encounter enemies and if you run away or defeat them it stopped, sounds cool but it ain't! And it was awfully loud too! If you can live with these "minor" flaws (I know I can!!) you have yourself a great game!
Until next time, Laters.

Admitedly a bit torn...23845

J.C. Dragon from Bellingham, WA says (22/May/2003):
Enter the matrix is one game that is truly an oddity. One could look on the surface, ignoring the hype of the license and the hype surrounding the title alone, and see an overall entertaining and engaging piece of video game pie. It has cool gimmicks, albeit ones we've all seen before, such as bullet-time (aka focus power in the game), martial arts moves, stealth missions, and guns aplenty. However, when one looks past the initial "cool factor" that the game has, I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed by the experience as a whole. Firstly, the graphics. A couple years ago by first generation PS2 standards the graphics in this gamers opinion would be average at best. The frame rate may be exceptional and the characters may be recognizeable but the textures don't have much texture to them with everything having a very "smooth" look to it. That statement my sound great... smooth looking usually isn't a reference one makes when being critical. But EVERYTHING looks smooth in the game. The pavement, the walls, I MEAN everything. Even Niobe's leather coat, which, if you've seen it, has quite a bit of patterned texture to it. Secondly, the levels. While the objectives are admittedly varied and in the variety is an entertaining mix, some of that variety becomes a bit... shal I say forced and cumbersome. The driving levels for example. While I applaud the attempt to create an action game that doesn't get bogged down by repetition, instead we're met with a game that moves along at a steadfast pace interupted by mediocre driving levels. Even more bothersome is the level of difficulty differences depending on which character you chose to be in command of. I found it quite easy to breeze past the first driving level as Ghost. Simply dissecting police cruisers as they sadly attempted to halt my progress towards the drawbridge. But, as Niobe, not only must Ghost continuously be pulled back in the car so you don't ALWAYS have a gun defense (for some reason Ghost's health is depleted by the cold air or something when he leans out the window)you have to wait for the damn bridge to come down. And while you're doing that you continously get rammed by cop cars. This wasn't hard persay, just < remove me > at #$ing annoying. Which I found even more annoying by the aforementioned Ghost issue. I'm getting rammed by cruisers but I can't have Ghost fend them off because his life is too low. He was never shot. He just leaned out of the window too long. What's up with that!?
Another area of the game mechanics that bothered me was the "arsenal" of fighting moves at your disposal...small arsenal that is. And I do mean small. It seems as if I was only ten minutes into the game before I had pulled of pretty much every move I was capable of. In fact I think I only pulled off one "new" move the rest of the game. Even worse, Niobe and Ghost have virtually the same move sets. So even as the other character you've pretty much seen all the martial arts cool stuff you'll see in ten minutes as you will in ten hours. And another thing. While I enjoy sublevels. You know, levels within bigger "chapters"? I don't enjoy running for fifteen seconds after a loading screen, just to get another loading screen... which indisriminately happens FAR too often in the game.
Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy this game. But with the ever growing quality of the gaming industry... ASIDE from the hype that surrounds this franchis and this title. I expect more. And I KNOW I'm not alone on this. I do have to send some kudos out for the concept. That being the Intertwining stories of the Animatrix, the Matrix Reloaded and this game. I like the fact that there ARE surprises and incite. Not just rehashing of the films story as in most movie based games. You understand why certain characters decide to do what they do in the flick. You feel like you are actually interacting in what takes place. And in that ambition I have to applaud the Wachowski bros. It's obvious that they do have pride as artist in their overall vision. It just didn't translate into what I as a gamer and consumer feel I was promised. In fact the ending was a TOTAL letdown. After an enjoyable first third of the game, the second third is allright and then the game shifts into high gear in the last third. I was ready to almost forget all my gripes about the game(ALMOST)... then... it happened. I reappear, "outside" of the matrix. I get to pilot the Logos. Niobe's hovership. I thought, "Allright... Sounds cool." Even better. Ghost mans the guns, and you don't have to worry about his life bar this time. But as I'm piloting through the caverns of the Earth. I find that I'm supposed to outrun the Sentinels (those robot octopus things) and by puttin the pedal to the metal... I can for the life of me tell where the hell I'm supposed to gp. I turn towards what I think is a tunnel and run into a wall. Now... I could bitch about that segment for a while... A LONG WHILE actually. But, I won't. Because, I'll tell you what I was thinking at the time. I was annoyed to all high heaven, but kept the thought in the back of my head, that when I get past this level, well who knows but it's probably really cool! But NO!!! the game ends And not like cliffhanger ending. You're not in any danger at the end. You're APPARENTLY just siitting around in your damn ship waiting for someone to come pick you up. They proceed to show you the preview for the next movie and bam... roll credits. SOOOOO ANTI CLIMACTIC!!! With the levels becoming more and more engaging... to be thrown into such a crappy as level as the Logos level was and have it end pissed me off to NO END. But, ultimately, what it boils down to is that story. The fact that Jada pinkett smith, Hugo Weaving... etc. The fact that they're all here. Same writing... all the good stuff. And new insights. Otherwise I'm afraid this would in my opinion be just an average game. Gameplay wise it is a cool game... but just not enough of it. There should have been more to it. It just ultimately feels like I... and everyone else for that matter are supposed to think we just played the ultimate game because of the interactive story element. Bt after playing such high caliber action games such as Devil May Cry, Lord of the Rings TTT, Zone of the Enders the 2nd runner, and the plethora of other fantastic titles that are pushing the black boxes hardware to it limits... It should have and could have been better. The bar has been raised exponentially over the last decade, and with as much promise as this license has, ESPECIALLY with th Wachowski's on the production bandwagon... this game could have been the juggernaut that everyone was expecting. And I do't think I'm dreaming either.

The Best Game I Have Played Since The Legend Of Zelda Orcarina Of Time23831

Nathan C from Clinton Ut, USA says (21/May/2003):
This Game is Awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will blow you away with some of the moves you can pull off while in focus mode. The game is worth the money. The game Gives More info On whats going on whith other people than Trinity Neo and Morpheous so when you watch the movie Matrix Reloded it will make more sense And I advise you to beat the game on easy first do not under estimate the difficulty it is still Pretty tough I beat it first on Normal And I could Barely make it through some of the levels. The one thing that helps is that your life and focus will restore by it self after a while of not being used so if you are in a tough fight and losing life try running around for a while to get your life and focus up. Don't think when you beat the game with One Character it is over if you play the game with a different character it is totally different so try it both ways. There is also a hacking mode that allows you to enter cheats and make drops in the matrix so you can have awsome weapons in easy levels to make them even easier. There is also a cheat to give you a special training level and a cheat to give you a multi-player fighting mode that is pretty cool even though you must have fixed characters in every level but you can fight with trinity and Morpheus and even whith cars!!

There was no spoon .... but there certainly was action23766

Shodan 2 2 1 from Toronto, Ontario, Canada says (20/May/2003):
The Gaming market has been dominated by movie to game crap for a long time .... now the industry is changing , It started with the two towers game , Now we have the new evolution of movie based games. Now , straight off , If you had a beef with Reloaded .... Dont buy the game , the game is quite faithful to the new direction the Wachowski's have taken the films. I however loved Reloaded , even though some elements i would have wanted from the Matrix did not appear , such as some of the old phylisophical questions Morpheous used to spin out. But the game shares all the things that made the movie great, some of the levels (like the uninspired unatmospheric airport) are bland and feel like they dont belong in a matrix game , but at the hight of levels (running through china town with agent Smith clones coming out of everywhere) makes you want to French the developers ( even though im fully hetero). In the end i look back on the game as a great experience .... almost like i was playing a movie ... the Kung fu is amazing .... and some of the levels must be played to be beleived. If I wasnt sure that there were some issues that would restrain some people from enjoying the game , i would have given this game a full 10. Ghost was my favourite charachter .... reminds me of me .... especially when he refered to onanism (only half of the people reading this or less will understand what he was talking about, lets just say he gets lonely in Reality)

A game that literally interacts with the movie...it doesn't get much better than this!!23788

Nate Riegel from Charlotte, USA says (20/May/2003):
This game is, to put it simply, friggin' incredible. The live-action cut-scenes with the original actors (except for the Oracle) make for one hell of an experience, especially for Matrix fans who want to know everything about the story. Matrix Reloaded is one of the best movies I've every seen and this game ties up so many loose ends with Ghost and Niobe. Parts where you didn't see them in the movie are when you're playing the game. Every once in a while they will cross paths with the "Neb" crew and Neo as well as many other people and moments from the film. The "Animatrix" is involved as well. God I love this game!!!!

Best Movie-to-Console Game I've Played In My Years23678

25 year old kid from Tacoma, Washington says (19/May/2003):
Well I'll say that it is true that some of the graphics were poorer than what is on the current market, I prefer not to let too much of my opinion be affected by that. Being that many games are simply graphic heavy with little or no plot... Whereas this game offered plenty of supplemental story development, supposing that some of you have already seen the movie as I have. As for "Button-Mashing, Limited, and of Short Gameplay"...try playing the harder modes instead of flying through on "easy"...then you can actually start to train some pretty impressive manuevers and twists. Just be patient children and let a great game unfold...it could be worse and it could be better, but for now I intend to let myself rest easy knowing my money has been well spent this time round. Goodnight.

whoa....23682

Chino from Sale Lake, UT, USA says (19/May/2003):
Enter The Matrix is probably one of the coolest games out right now... (aside from vice city which is also extremely awesome) my first reaction after seeing the opening cinematic was whoa... I wasnt very impressed with the graphics at first so I had to tweak with the video options till I finally got it to where it looked decent.. none the less bullet time is probably what makes this game great! I love dodging bullets and beating the crap out of people.. I mainly use martial arts but I also use weapons when I need to. Agents are the coolest enemies there are.. I love killing them.. or temporarily disabling them rather.. the first time I saw one drop off a high building and land infront of me.. I took cover behind some wall then thought to myself screw it I can take him and I jumped off the wall using bullet time focus and ran towards him dodging bullets and I started punching and kicking the hell out of him.. but since he is an agent and only Neo can kill them.. he owned me bad, almost killing me but I was able to kick him off the building and he fell off to his death.. or so I thought.. I was all psyched about having "killed" him till I saw him take over another body and continued to chase me.. it was great =) anyways I suggest you buy this game if you enjoyed max payne and the matrix.. oh also the hacking option is pretty cool, I spent some time on it till I finally figured it out and I unlocked some cool things =)
peace out,
Chino

One of the Coolest Games Ever!!23722

will from New Mexico, USA says (19/May/2003):
The gameplay graphics are lower than expected with technology today, but the cutscene graphics are great. But personally I don't find that that matters a whole lot because it has a great story-line and great game play and that's what I buy a game for. It truly has a wonderful plot and has a great fighting style. The "Focus" attribute deffinately adds a lot to the game. It is not all that challenging in the earlier stages but in the latter stages of the game it gets gradually tougher. It has a great gameplay and because you have two characters to play as it has a great replay value. The originality of this game is great because The Matrix movie is so unique. Many games that are a movie to console game lose a lot of story line, however this plot carries over well and adds a lot to the movie. There is one thing that could be interpretted as bad but i personally don't think so. The booklet tells a lot of stuff but it doesn't tell all of the extra (helpful) moves but that's nice because it lets you discover things for yourself. In closing, it's a wonderful game, that's incredibly fun and i highly recommend it.

Very sweet game!23722

SirThomas from Maryland, USA says (18/May/2003):
I think the game is very well done. The fact that you can learn how to do flips and walk up walls to dodge bullets certainly makes Enter the Matrix a one-of-a-kind game. Matrix fans will be pleasantly pleased and exited when playing this game. Animation is great, with all the different combos and ways to take down your enemy.
Great game, definately a must for MAtrix fans.

Ugh, my eyes...23548

Benares from Dallas, TX says (17/May/2003):
Okay, the graphics in this game are nice, though not what I'd consider up to par with a lot of the modern games out there; there are numerous areas where they didn't even bother patching the floor so you can see into the infiniti beyond, and everything is extremely boxy, very little in the way of organic-style terrain. It feels like you're playing a PS1 game some times. Also, character control is extremely difficult; even the slightest move from your mouse and your character weaves side-to-side uncontrollably, so much so that you'll be seasick within half an hour. You cannot move in first-person mode and in fact have a terrible time trying to aim in that mode too. Shooting can pretty-much only be done at point blank range, and for all the great martial arts of the movie, you get a very limited supply of punches and kicks, nothing like the variety of some fighting action games. There is no training phase, so you have to essentially jump right into the fire at the beginning, and there is very little puzzle work so in the end all you're doing is weaving between endless hallways trying to shoot cops who you can't get a bead on. Lastly is the camera, a very poorly programmed way of seeing the world : if you're fighting enemies, be prepared for the camera to regularly look nowhere near them leaving you to randomly guess where the guys shooting at you are. The only reason I gave this game a Four is because it does have lots of footage relating to the movie, which I love. But if you stripped this game of its Matrix logo and just played it like any other game, you'd be pretty disappointed.

Great game23549

Ghost from Adelaide says (17/May/2003):
Dont expect anything to huge graphics wise, because I did and at the start I thought these graphics suck. But do not let that put you off buying it because the first time you fight it is awesome. Then when you learn to use the focus you think can this game be any better. Even though they run like the terminator without guns ad with they run like girls dont let anything bad things ive said put you off. The game is very short though but once you have played it once with both characters i think youre gonna wanna play more. The hacking system is good fun, even though i havent entirely got the jist of it yet. Great game, if you love the matrix buy this immmediatly.

AWSOME23573

Clint Badger from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada says (17/May/2003):
Enter the matrix is an amazing game, you can dodge bullets at exponential speeds. It has two stories to it, one where u can be niobe and the other as ghost. They are both characters in "The Matrix: Reloaded". If you like any of the matrix movies, action games, or amazing cut-scenes, you'll love this game. If in the movie you see someone leave the room, they are entering the next room in the enter the matrix video game. There are level such as driving or piloting hover craft, but you can only do this as niobe. If you are ghost in these levels, you are riding shotgun, literally. You need to shoot away any and all followers that chase your car, while niobe performs second to none car tricks. Weapons are something you can have, but it is not all the fun. There are only about 10 different weapons, and martial arts is you game. You can run up the sides of walls, then kick off and hit you enemy in the air. You can do backflips off walls, you can fly backwards while shooting (my favourite), do cartwheels while shooting (OK, maybe you do need weapons). You have a limit to how much special tricks you can perform, it is caled your focus meter. When it reaches zero, you are stuck in the real world. But it does regenerate over time, and then you can run accross the walls once again. You health also regenerates, but not in boss battles. All of the voice talents are done by their movie actors, which is pretty cool in games like "The Two Towers".

lets hope the movie is better23493

A gamer from Winchester says (16/May/2003):
The graphics are ok, not on the same level as splinter cell. The game play is very poor. Fighting is a essentially a button bashing affair. The gun fights are crap. I would have liked the fighting system to be more involved. it may look cool the moves you pull off, but you have virtually no control over the moves. I would have liked a two player mode where you can fight in the dojo, as in the first movie. I have heard there is this in the hacked cheats mode, this shouldn't be. Also the way the game has been advertised, I would have thought the story would affect the game play more. However in the first few levels. it just involves running for A to B bashing a few buttons on the way so kill some post men, not the most exciting game play in the world.

"Dead To Rights" on acid and steroids.23522

Casper from Durango, CO says (16/May/2003):
I purchased "Enter The Matrix" the day of it's release, shortly after I watched the movie for the second time. I was instantly hooked as if I was on "THE RED PILL" at first sight of this game. First thing I did was play with all the buttons and used the "focus" in every way possible. The many moves that can be manipulated such as running on the walls and aerials through wizzing bullets are unparallelled by any other game to date. What I instantly liked about the game was the degree of skill needed to begin, almost none! But for hardcore gamers such as myself there was still a lot of room for figuring out thousands of combinations for battle. The characters can be manipulated in more ways than any previously released games. I found about five different ways to run on walls and calculated fifty some variations of attacks and evasions from these vantage points. When in hand to hand combat within the game there isn't much difference in the game play and the movies. Attacking five or six guys at a time is an easy task as long as you block one enemy while attacking another at the same time. The pre-programmed combos are activated depending on your character and enemy position. So if timed well it is possible to take out a crowd of enemies in an amazing splender of raw and graceful power. If Dead To Rights or Max Payne are on the top of your favorites list, then "Enter The Matrix" will be your god.
