Arse McKracken's views on |
| Arse McKracken from Paradise, Newfoundland says (5/Jun/2003): |
Ok here goes. *potiential spoilers
Graphics:
I thought they were pretty good everything ran smoothly but I found the fixed camera angles to be a bit frustrating as Banner.
Sound:
To be honest I never really noticed the music in the game but I did try out the Grey Hulk cheat and his lines were pretty funny.
Gameplay:
Well first off I understand that they do have to limit the hulks strength, how high he jumps etc... I found fighting the bosses a little strange. There was one boss the Gamma soldier who while fighting you had to destroy the shield generator now the thing about this is even if you beat up the guy unless you destroy the generator he gets back up, this really bothered me because when I attacked him my hits do not even do much damage. All the Hulk parts should have the option to bash your way through. Would the Hulk even know to destroy the generators? or would he just beat up the guy and leave. I find my attacks do seem to do much damage. Also there seems to be a period after an attack where you can't move. This can be frustrating as you are dodgeing rockets and fighting soldiers.
The Banner parts of the game are frustrating because they just weren't fun. You are not that steathly and because of the fixed camera angles its hard to see if a soldier is coming or not.
I also found the auto aim for throwing objects soldiers etc.. was strange It wouldn't always throw at the enemie you looking directly at which was frustrating when your trying to take out the guys with the rockets.
That being said I did really enjoy all the destruction of this game. There wasn't alot that you didn't leave your mark on.
Lifespan:
I don't think I would buy this game but I would rent it again. It was fun for a little mayham.
Fun Factor:
Again I have to see I enjoyed man handling the soldiers. I would give it a 7 out of ten there.
The last thing I'm going to mention is the need for open endedness(is that even a word?) If anyone has played GTA Vice City they will know what I'm talking about. That game you could just go around doing things and there was a lot you could do. But with the hulk you have a set path to follow not a lot of room for a deture through a city etc.
Anyhow this is just some things I've noticed about the game.

Meh . . . |
| Joseph from San Antonio, TX says (3/Jun/2003): |
"The Hulk" gets my vote as the most frustrating game I've played in years. The only reason I beat it in three days is because it's so short. Hulk's moves are so sluggish and unresponsive. You'll throw something and then cannot move for about a second, and in that time, enemies are able to attack you. What I don't understand is how a regular human can withstand an assault from Hulk. One punch would be enough to create a huge cavity in any human's skull, but in the game, you can just really give it to those little military guys and they get right back up. Although some of the sound effects are pretty good, the music is some of the worst I've ever heard. More like dull tones and blank noises than music, really. The cutscenes are excellent, but during play, the graphics are third rate. Hulk seems a little rigid. In other words, you don't see his muscles ripple or the shreds of his pants move. What really bothers me, graphics-wise, is when you pick objects up, they become transparent. Rarely do you see the objects in full detail. It's like: Duh, I know Hulk is under there, I don't need to see him to know that I picked up that car. And when you toss the stuff, it doesn't explode into pieces. It just sort of erupts into a giant fireball and vanishes. Very disappointing. When you throw a car or boulder at an enemy, only that particular enemy receives damage, even if he is surrounded by four or five other enemies. What about shrapnel? Or the explosions? In the comic, Hulk is able to defeat a hundred enemies at once, but he doesn't do it one at a time. There are a couple area attacks in the game, though, which are pretty cool. I don't want to ruin the game for someone who is still interested in playing this game, but the ending is downright confusing. I don't know. I felt this whole thing was a disappointment. Probably the designers knew this game would sell regardless, what with the movie coming out and all. Rent it, do not buy it.

Hulk misses more than it hits |
| Ned from Charlotte, NC USA says (1/Jun/2003): |
This game is lots of fun when you're the Hulk and you're stomping the bad guys, but it drops the ball with the scenes when you are Bruce Banner. Play is slow. You have to move objects without being detected and often use them to get around obstacles. The object moving is fine, but using what you've moved is buggy. The first time you need to stay as Banner, you are instructed to find a vent shaft. Easy enough, it's behind a box or crate or something. You move it, you walk to the shaft, nothing happens. Basically, you have to move the object out into the middle of the room to get in the vent, even though you can walk right up to it, crouch down to and do everything but enter it. Later, you have to move boxes next to crates and climb from there to a roof. You are just as likely to fall as climb because Bruce can't jump. The "brains" part of the Banner scenes is cracking a code where you are shown the right code and you have to arrange the alpha-numerics the same in 20 seconds. Mind-numbingly dull. You don't need a brain to be Bruce Banner, just sneaky. While Banner is the worst part of this game, not far behind is the upper level Hulk fights. Eventually, you are more effective throwing exploding barrels that actually fighting. There are lots of cool moves, but most can only be used against the weakest opponents. Many of the move require you to hold them for a second (build power) for them to have maximum effectiveness. But against the stronger opponents, you have to use your weakest moves and throw stuff, or you get your butt kicked.
When fighting just the common bad guy, or even some of the bosses, this game is a lot of fun. You smash and crush things like there is no tomorrow. But the further in to the story you go, the more disappointing this game is. And about the 800th time you die as Banner, you'll be ready to take this one back to your local trade-in store.
My recommendation, rent it.

SO-so |
| A gamer from Charollte, NC USA says (26/Sep/2003): |
This game is a good game to rent, I dont think buying is a smart move but if its your type of game go for it. When you play the game at first it's fun, but eventually it gets boring to me. The wolf-dogs(or whatever there called) in the game get annoying by jumping on you every two seconds. The boss at the end of the level are a fair challenge and they have some cool tricks. The game is great for going around and throwing anything and everything. If you get stuck some where on the game a million and one guys come up on you and its impossiable to even move. If you dont find your way through the level you repedittivally die. on the graphics i'd say there pretty good. The people who made this game did a good job on making it realilstic.Overall, if you like hand to hand fighting combat and exploding things this is the game for you, if you dont i dont even know why your intersted in the game.

fun yet frusterating |
| daniel from marietta,GA usa says (16/Jun/2003): |
the hulk is a very cool game but the levels are extremly long and the enimies seem to be coming from nowhere. Also the stealth missions are anoying. the automated cameras sometimes go in front of you so you cant see in front of you so you might run right into a guard. When the camera switches angles you find your self going the direction. it takes a while to get the sneaking up and choking thing down. the rest of the game like the graphics and fun factor are really good. another thing I just cant believe it that three blows to kill one of those army men.on the boss with madman he can still type on the smashed computers that take like 10 punches to destroy. this is a game to rent but if you think its good enough to buy go right ahead. the special features are also a cool adition to the game.

Is this an Incredible Hulk game or Hulk Hogan game? |
| adamshadow86 from uk says (18/Jun/2003): |
The graphics were...different. Didnt notice the sound...and the FMV clips *SNORE* the gameplay was repetative, it was mildly fun smashing stuff up, but the fact the soldiers took 3 hits to kill and the floor gets smashed up just by jumping is beyond me...auto aim when you throwed sucked. the levels was short and seemed the same...lack of freedom and fun...Bruce Bana missions was one of the worst... wheres the whole "HULK SMASH! HULK BASH!" The Hulk is a creature of destruction, not walk idle by as super human soldiers shoot you...The Gamma hounds were anoying too.
In all a semi fun game, but in all dont buy it, rent it...Extra features are ok too

HULK |
| A gamer from Piscataway NJ, USA says (30/Jun/2003): |
This game is off the chains. I loved it from the start, the graphics are pretty good and you can unlock art and play as the gray hulk. As for the moves there could be more but the games is so realistic. When you knock an army man off a building you hear his scream trailing off. Its fun to smash the army men and the bosses are really tough but fun. Surprisingly I actually liked the story of the game. As for the HULK save up 50 bucks and dont go spendin' on candy cause this is the game of the year.

I think the hulk is sweet as cheese. I like the hulk, and it is very cool. I think the hulk was the best show on television. I loved lou ferigno and bill bixby. I only hope that I was him. He was a superhero, just like Sampson was in the bible. It was a swell movie.

The game is very frustrating |
| guy from new york new york usa says (28/Jun/2003): |
The game is very boring, especially when you are Bruce. He does nothing but pick-up and punch. It is very annoying to type in all the codes.
After all the game is named The Hulk, and in most of the levels you are not even the hulk, and there are only five attacks.
