Grand Theft Auto does a summersault |
| Kato from Spartanburg, S.C., USA says (8/Nov/2003): |
The whole concept of the game is that your a suspended cop, asked back on the force to solve a mystery of violent crimes. But your no ordinary cop, You are Nick Kang, rebel cop with an attitue. The concept of the game is pretty origional, but it drives too closely to the GTA series, except your trying to stop crime, not make it. My only beef with the story line is the fact that there is some super natural foolery mixed into what seems to be a close-to-reality-RPG-action-adventure game.
The graphics in the game are beautifully done but they could have been a little better. The complaint i have about the graphics is that sometimes whole pannels would turn blue, but only for a couple seconds. Also sometimes when your doing the 24/7 drving course challenges the walls and obsticles disappear and this can really get frustrating especially because you're timed. The sound in the game is magnifficent.
It has to have one of the best soundtracks i have ever heard in a game, especially when your fighting a boss. The dialogue in the game is witty and funny and it makes you wish more cops were like that but didn't bust you.
The gameplay is pretty cool and can definately get addictive. There is an RPG type feel to the way that you can upgrade your figthting styles (gain new throws and finishers), your car (learn new tricks and gain better cars), and especially your gun (a plethera of utilities and different guns). You'll find yourself driving around all of L.A. trying to find that last upgrade. Though it is cool that you get to upgrade your fighting style, there really aren't that many enemies that couln't be apprehended with just your three primary finishers. The only beef with the gameplay is that the crimes, aside from the storyline, don't get more difficult as you progress through the game.
The lifespan of this game is moderately high. The storyline itself can be beaten in one day (that is if you don't sidetrack and fight crime while in driving mode) but there will always be that thought in the back of your head, "what if i just go through and kill everyone I come in contact with?" There is also this impulse to go back through and try to get different upgrades at different times to try and find the best way to get an advantage over more difficult foes.
The story line is in depth and excitingly fun to play but the best part of the game would be just cruising around L.A. stopping perps and upgrading your abilities. It has a GTA feel to it in that your not always pressed for time. You can take your time and cruise the streets and highway(which can get confusing and frustrating at first) and just enjoy beating the crap out of arsonists, escaped convicts, rapists, and stock brokers.
The game costs 49.99, about the price of any new, worth buying xbox game. I would definately recommend investing 50 bucks to get this game. It is a good one and has platnum possibilities all over it. The ending also leaves it open to a prequil (i hope).

A more advanced Grand Theft Auto, but you are a cop. |
| J. Davila from New York, USA says (12/Nov/2003): |
True Crime: Streets of LA is an excellent RPG (role playing game) which combines a very complex story-line with a very detailed playing field to really get you involved in this game. If you are a fan of the Grand Theft Auto's (GTA3 and Vice City), this is a game for you. The story-line can take a number of different turns depending on what leads you may decide to take. Of coarse the story takes place in LA, you are a cop with a very distinct reputation of getting the job done, even if you have to break all the rules to do it. You are able to take any car, shoot anybody, and destroy anything you want without having the police on your case because you are given permission by the chief of police do whatever you see fit to get the job done. The only bad penalty you will recieve is that you will be deamed a bad cop if you break to many rules, and being a good cop or bad cop effects the ending. The graphics in the game are great, and you are able to enhance your character by completing certain bonus rounds (better fighting techniques, better cars, and better guns). The only draw back of playing this game is that it is kinda glitchy (game can slow down, you can get stuck in a wall, that sort of thing). Aside from trying to crack a major case, you are able to do regular cop things such as breaking up street fights, aiding cops in need, preventing riots from escalating into disasters, but above all else, you can arrest all the criminals you want, and frisk anyone you want (some people carry illegal items such as drugs or weapons). The game is in 3rd person mode most of the time, unless you want to go to 1st person mode and shoot people with better persition (you can't move freely in the 1st person mode). This game is great for people who like games that challenge them and like their games to last awhile (if you have no life and just play video games all the time, and can't speak on your behalf, so don't hold this review against me). All and all, I'm almost positive that you will enjoy this game, from the great story-line to the Kung-Fu you are able to lay down on those punks who think they are above the law. Before I forget to let you know, the beginning is a bit slow, but it picks up very nicely.

Review of True Crime: Streets of LA |
| The-Iron-Man from South Wales says (3/Nov/2003): |
True Crime: Streets of LA is a game Developed by LUXOFLUX and Published by ACTIVISION and should be out Friday 7th of November.
You play Nick Kang a cop who is fired because of unnessasary force, soon after he joins the EOD. This game is jammed packed full of action, containing 250 missions. Many people will say it's Vice City, the only difference is the location and your a cop but their wrong.True Crime is very different, you can go into bullet time ( slow mo )and you can be holding a six shooter in one hand and a AK-47 in the other. That's not it, in Vice City all you do is a simple punch and kick but in True Crime you can do all sorts of Kung-Fu moves. Instead of money you have cop points which you earn from missions or loose from killing inocents and dammaging property, With these cop points you by fighting moves from the DoJo and cars .ect. The graphics are great, when you crash into cars and make dents and when your fighting it's excellent, the sound is amazing to. Like Vice City it has it's humour suvh as: when you take someones car Nick Kang will say to th owner in a sarchastic way ''I'm EOD Duh'' and many witty quotes like that. If your into Heavy Metal your won't like the music it's rap, i love metal but the music is'nt bad it's on constant so you can hear it everywhrere. If you fail a sub-mission you will get a chance to do it a\gain later in the game. The lifespan of the game is huge, manu maissions to complete and the map is huge, i personally won't know my way around so that will keep you busy. It's of great value for the lenght and you will have so much fun on this game. ENJOY!

I expected better yet , it was pleasing. |
| Jeffrey Mitchells from slidell says (14/Mar/2004): |
Ok for those who are unsure about the game I suggest you RENT it first before you go buying the game. And that rule also applies to any other game. Now, about the game, well by the looks of it when I rented it, it seemed fun and had alot of action and I enjoy those kind of games so I rented it. Once home I played for an hour or so, the beginning didn't come as much as a challenge to me but as you go along it gets harder sort of like GTAVC, GTA 3 anyways, it was ok I would buy GTAVC over it because when you die in GTA you can come back and restart etc. whenever you lose to General Kim he throws you off a building and so on. I enjoy the parts where you can arrest people and what not, that part was very fun. But, the graphics are kind of poor, the logic of it all seems kind of etchy and some of the missions seem almost impossible and if not impossible take forever to beat! If you like GTA then you might like this game but mainly if you like poor graphics, almost impossible to beat levels and what not then this is the game for you! I suggest you buy this over GTA because even without cheats I beat GTAVC in almost a week and it became pointless and less fun as it started ending. Okay well I'm going to go, I hope whatever gamr you buy you enjoy! EVERYONE--if you own a PS2 or a Gamecube, I suggest you buy the games Harvest Moon save the homeland (for PS2) OR Harvest Moon a wonderful life (for Gamecube) They are life based games that are extremely fun they seem to be like sims except they own a farm and farm animals etc. etc. It may sound gay but you should try it out! Bye-bye

this is better than vice city |
| Jose Bautista from Valley Stream, New York says (15/Nov/2003): |
this stuff is mad hot u can fight shoot and drive at this game. all people who like vice city are gonna like this better, thers hooked up cars too, its fast. ur a cop in this game,u have unlimited ammo with the pistol u get. an u are rated good cop or bad cop.u get different story lines best ending good ending or bad ending. i got bad ending becuase i keep shooting all the civilianz.while ur driving or walking around the cops report crimes u SHOULD (this means da crimes r optional)investigate. there are all crimes u could think of, its Los angeles. thers robbery, mugging, rape in the middle of the streets, sreet racing, gang shootouts, drug dealers, cops trying to shoot bad guys, bum brawls, couple fights, girlfriend fights, hostage takers, drug buyers, street fights, murderers and so on.u can get new cars, the license plate of ur car is the name of the file.u can get new fighting techniqeus (HOT),and new gun techniqeus. u can get two guns at a time. (u start out with two guns).u press x to pick u another gun u can only hold two guns u cant keep 20 guns with u an take em out whenever, u have to drop one gun(u Always have the 2 pistols)then pick that one up. there is strip club but u cant go in, only on a certain mission, one dances for u and kicks u in da nuts. thisgame is truly better than vice city.

Amazing Game! |
| Tony Dougherty from Liverpool, UK says (11/Mar/2004): |
being a gta fan i bought this game expecting it to be a bad ass rip off but when i got it home i was surprised to say the least. to compare this game to grand theft auto is quite easy at first but when you actually get into it you realise that it's nothing like it. the missions are great with variations of what ya have to do like car chases, tailing people, fighting, gun fights etc. thats what makes this game great... it has elements of everything! i like the way on most missions you can just drive around and explore the city and solve the many street crimes (entirely by your own choice!) before proceeding. the extra games are also quite fun and i also like the idea of having to unlock different things as you progress because this game does gradually get much harder if you don't! someone mentioned there not being many cheats... well whats the point in playing a game if your gonna cheat? you might aswell not bother buying it as it will take the fun out of everything. The Graphics are great, the soundtrack is great and the vocals of the people on the streets are funny as hell! True Crime: Streets of LA is definately worth the money in my opinion. if you havn't already got it then punch yourself in the face you moron!

True Crime is the Shizz |
| A gamer from USA/New York says (21/Apr/2004): |
True Crime rocks!!!The fighting is actually fighting unlike GTA. The graphics are way better and more songs to boot.(Although you have to get out of the car to have a new song play)In the game you could see the bullets flyin at you and hear the crunch when you ran over something that sound was awesome. Lifespan...you dont get shield or nothin and a good gun can take you down in a few shots...but still the gameplay is great. The story line is awesome...it has replay value because of three diferent endings even. IT's awesome running around friskin people arresting them for having a gun or drugs, kinda funny too. It actually looks like you someone this time. Not a 3-d figure who has an attitude. It's deffinately worth the money. To all those who read this you may want to rent it first but if you like it like I do then buy it.

Just another gamers opinion |
| Jimmy from Baltimore,MD says (2/Dec/2003): |
Now the gameplay of True Cime: Streets of L.A. is nothing new to me...i played GTA titles, Max Payne, and other hype roleplay games.True Crimes is a mixture of all. the graphics are amazing, soundtracks are somewhat listenable 2, and storylines are believible.i like the way the dispatcher alerts when a street crime takes place cuz its like your a real cop racing to the scene of the crime...the selection of cars are awsum(ecspecially the ferrari f-50)...Downsides-you can't bust a hooker by trying to pick them up yourself, the braking is a little slow, reloading is a little slow, theres no dirtbike or motorcycles that i haven't seen yet...i still like the game and hopefully there will be a sequel...other then that its a good game..,Snoop Dogg Dogg........T E N S T A R S .............

Just one word:"Wow" |
| Korey G.M. from Sweetwater,Texas,USA says (8/Dec/2003): |
When I first got this game I thought that it would be like GTAVC, but it is a lot better. Being able to bust criminals is awesome as hell. The guns are sweet as hell to. And your police cars are also "sweet" (Hemi-powered Dodge Ram sweet). The city is huge as hell, I took the Ferrie and started at the beging of the freeway and it took me nearly 30 mins to get to the end, there are so many sub-cities. The fighting mode is cool esp. the combos. Diving manuvers help also. And the graphics are great too. The only drawback is the penalties for killing peds. The shooting mode is also great. There could be more rock music though.
The story is kind of easy but fun.
Overall I give it a 10.

This game rocks! |
| Fleshmonkey from Los Angeles, CA USA says (6/Jan/2004): |
It's all the things you ever wanted to do if you were a cop!! Being a former LAPD Officer, this allowed me to be the cop I wanted to be without all the paperwork, all in the safety of my living room. The calls and codes are realistic. The streets and landmarks are fairly accurate. Eventhough some of the scenarios are not entirely accurate and do not follow LAPD procedure; it is entertaining.
The gameplay can be difficult when driving, aiming the firearm, and fighting. With practice, as with any other game, this becomes easy.
The alternate endings and storylines make the game more interesting than other role playing games. Overall, for a person who's not easily impressed: I sure am.

True Crimes Streets of LA is Hard boiled come true. |
| Darkman Japan from Tokyo Japan says (8/May/2004): |
True Crime Streets of LA is a real bad ass game. It sort of reminds me of Hard Boiled the movie by John Woo full of action and suspence from the word go with plenty of extreme gun play & ass whooping Kung Fu and car chases. So much so that I can't stop playing the game, and the hip hop sound tracks makes you don't want too get out of the car when these beats start jamming. Especially with all the up grades to improve your skills as a renegade cop coursing havok and mayhem on the streets of LA its crazy, they should make a part two thats how good I think the game is. And I just have one more comment to add before I go " I came I saw and I kicked ass in True crime style"
|
thought grand theft was huge check it! |
| Anthony Rodriguez from South Orange , NJ says (9/Nov/2003): |
yes it is here and what a gaming experience if not for the fact that the firing mechanics are not the greatest what game actuly has great firing mechanics the driving scence and no load time while entering LA huge enviorment with the fact that if you cahse down a criminal and he starts runing the chase is truly on and by that i mean he will literally shoot at you and car jack a passer bye and take the vehicle and shoot at you inb the process to escape and with all this said played the game finished in three days with 85 percent of the upgrades and there is still free roaming and crimes to stop that happen on the ramdom good cop bad cop true crimes of LA...

Not a complete original but awesome |
| Al (The Mirx) from Wisconsin, USA says (26/Mar/2004): |
True Crime is a game everyone will compare to GTAVC, that's ok but like Dead to Rights, you play as the cop. This game has some originality and the gas tank shot makes it funner. The use of profanity in other languages cracked me up a bit, if you not a linquist, I think you'll still get what most of it means. "No me molesta porpavor." I can't spell. Bullet time is in this game also, like many other games. This game was rated the best action game in Spike TV's VGA, and I totally agree. Good music use, also. This is one of my favorite multi-playable type games. Shooting, driving, and fighting type game. E-mail me if you have any questions.

true crime sweet vice city sweeter still |
| Adam f'd her from Augusta Ga says (13/Jan/2004): |
True Crime is a great game with awesome graphics and unbelievable options. Such as policing the streets of a meticulously mapped out los angeles. Foul language bringing closer the essence of real life. the cars are really cool and the fighting moves are sweet as well.
Now the music leaves something left to be desired, as well as the storyline. The story and the characters seem plucked out of some real bad low budget film with the worst acting. The missions are tame and the weapons are too. overall its a very fun game worthy of purchase. but nothing in comparison to GTAVC
|
True Crime |
| Son_ofa_Beach from Philadelphia, USA says (9/Nov/2003): |
True Crime Streets of LA delivers what the game creators promised, a fun, exciting, third-person shooter where as you roam through the streets of LA you arrest muggers and kill crack heads. While it is true that True Crime is very reminisent of GTA, the game allows you to "skip" missions and choose different endings to the game. The game is centered more around missions then driving around and blowing things up. I would have given it a 10 had it not been for the parts in the game where you kill zombies and fight giant fire demons with one eye. Overall True Crime deserves a 5

good but easy |
| A gamer from nj says (11/Dec/2004): |
This game is one of the better ones that i have played, i still like GTA but for the gamecube this is one of the best. the game could have used a harder gameline to it i thought it was kinda easy considering im not the big gamer type and i beat the game in under WEEK!!! if your looking for a game that actually has a story line to it the this is the game for you...un like GTA this game actually makes sense when u play it. instead of just running around killing people u actually have things to do..oh yeah and the cars u get actually look like the real ones unlike GTA....
|
Pretty good but |
| Troy Martin from Tennessee, USA says (16/Mar/2005): |
Well i like the action and free play. Its like a cross bewtween GTA San andreas and Bad boys 2. How ever it doesnt live up to its name. The title is TRUE CRIME streets of L.A. But i never heard of cops fighting Dragons and cooking zombies in L.A. but i do like the free play upgrades and how you change the story depending on what levels you win or lose. All in all i will give it a 7 out of 10. i wouldnt buy it for full price but i might at 19.99. The graphics and music however did give it some brownie points and i like how you can play as snoop dogg
