Realistic car performance and physics |
| Ben SLoan from Austin, USA says (2/Apr/2005): |
I give it a 7.75.
(GAMECUBE VERSION)
The sense of speed in this game is actually quite accurate, as one might note by the relativity of the car size, its registered speed, and the speed of things pasing by, like the lines on the pavement, the shops or the trees. Going 140 mph in a car in this game looks a lot like going 140 mph in ordinary reality in a real car.
That the game design was based upon the experiences of the cars' counterparts in the non-videogame-world, that the engineers of the game actually drove and street raced the models and attended underground street races, is quite evident, at least to those with sensitivity to such aspects. I like how moves you can pull in one car are nigh impossible in certain others. The cars' performance evolve, though with minor tuning changes, and a complete aftermarket hotrodding can completely metamorphasize several of the vehicals.
Driving around the city is very fun, in the sense that it is so like doing the real thing. A slight touch of the throttle(R2) is much like slightly touching the gas pedal on a car, and the more you bear down on the trigger, the more the intake opens up.
The races can be as challenging or as easy as you desire, by the choice of ride, and how close to stock it is.
My peeves with the game: Easing from a stop into motion in 1st gear is a little off, probabally because there is no clutch button(not that i wish for a clutch button... hitting upshift or downshift is plenty enough.... but never pick automatics. They choose 2 shift at ridiculous places). I would like the game more with a few more car models. And all-in-all, the races are a little easy(though not at first), once the controls and techniques are mastered. I would like to see stronger AI in the opponents. But that goes for all games; humans make much better competition because they learn.
You can break vehicals' speed barriers (the 'top speed' in the specs) by using nitrous, which overcomes the barrier of the windforce-to-vehical contour ratio.

Not the best but its pretty good |
| A gamer from ramstein, germany says (18/Oct/2004): |
Well lets start with the truth SRS and NFSU are not true triving sims as is GT series you ppl are missing the entire concept behind SRS and NFSU those are fun games to play so what if it take very little skill to beat the game and who really cares if the physics of the driving are not that perfect but who are you ppl to say that drifting is easy have you ever tried it NO i bet you havent you probly have more money on your video games and computers than you do your car all three games are fun and enjoyable to play and i own all three and GLAD i spent the money on it yall say that NFSU and SRS are not technical SO WHAT WHO the hell cares you want technical buy GT1-3 or nascar games those are technical games that require skill and back on the subject of drifting do you even under stand the point behind it other that what you read in the instruction manual do you know how much skill and practice that that really takes to do that and you have any idea at all of how to set your car up to DRIFT in GT i would put a pay check on it to that no you probly dont and WRC cars on dirt tracks or wet tracks dont count.
So in conclution to my gripe and complain about you all that wright in on racing games such as these and dont own a car or understand the point in them i think that SRS is a great game and i recomend other to at least give it a shot "IT IS AFTER ALL JUST A GAME".

SRS AND NFSU R BOTH WACK |
| A gamer from california,USA says (28/Sep/2004): |
BOTH OF THOSE GAMES SUCK. THERE BOTH UNREALISTIC AN BOTH R BORING TO PLAY. A REAL GAME TO PLAY IS GT3. THAT IS THE BEST RACING GAME OUT THERE PERIOD. IT IS BOTH REALISTIC AN FUN TO PLAY, THE GRAPHICS AN SOUND R ALOT BETTER THEN ANY OTHER RACING GAME OUT THERE. YEA THE MUSIC SUCKS BUT WHO CARES, AND THAT IS 1 GAME THAT YOU WILL NOT BEAT OVERNIGHT, IT TAKES SOME TIME TO MASTER. IF U COUNT THE NUMBER OF TOYOTAS,NISSANS,AND HONDAS ON GT3 U COME OUT TO ALMOST THE NUMBER OF TOTAL CARS ON SRS AN NFSU PUT TOGETHER. THE FACT THAT ON SRS THERE R LIKE 6SKYLINES, THAT IS STUPID. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME U HEARD A SKYLINE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THAT TOO, HOW UNREALISTIC. I CANT WAIT UNTIL GT4 COMES OUT, BECAUSE THAT IS A GAME FOR PEOPLE WHO KNOW MORE ABOUT CARS AND CAR SETUPS. NFSU IS NOT AS BAD AS SRS BUT IT STILL SUCKS. THE DRIFTING IN THAT GAME IS HORRIBLE AND THE BODYKITS ON THAT GAME, MAN THOSE R SOME UGLY KITS AND THAT GAME IS SO EASY TO BEAT. IT TAKES VIRTUALLY NO SKILL TO WIN ON SRS AND NFSU, BUT THE REAL SKILL IS ON GT3. SRS MADE NO SENSE IN PUTTING THAT TRUENO IN THERE GAME. YEA I LIKE THE TRUENO BUT IT BELONGS IN GAMES LIKE TOKYO XTREME RACE AND GT3. THEY ADDED THAT GAME JUST TO DO IT IT HAD NO MEANING AT ALL BE IN THAT GAME. THAT CAR STANDS OUT SO MUCH ON SRS, THATS LIKE TAKING A NISSAN SKYLINE AND PUTTING IT ON A CORVETTE RACING GAME. I MEAN THEY SHOULDNT HAVE PUT THAT CAR ON THAT GAME JUST CAUSE THE DRIFTING CRAZE HAS CAUGHT ON IN THE USA.I DRIFT PERSONALLY AND I KNOW THAT THE TRUENO IS BETTER SUITED FOR DRIFT THEN IT IS STREET RACING.THEREFORE THE GRAN TURISMO SERIES IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST RACING SERIES EVER PERIOD.

SRS vs NFSU |
| Andy from Kentucky, USA says (15/Sep/2004): |
I like the idea of free roaming and being able to have more than one car in SRS. I also like the fact that you can do a little bit more of the performance customizing in comparison to NFSU. The overall layout and idea of SRS is pretty good. I like the graphics on NFSU better and also the music. I liked being able to do more customizing in the visual aspect in NFSU. If they mixed the two and got both customizing (vis. and perf.) with the idea of free roaming from SRS and the graphics and the dragging from NFSU, it would be a great game.

Many racing games |
| Fri from Los Angeles, CA, USA says (12/Sep/2004): |
Ok first off, they said street racing game.this game was ok. and yeah money was easy to earn on this game.music is lame.but what got me was, they had like five of the same cars, only difference, was the years. I mean comon, you dont need that many of the same cars,I come from a street racing team myself. and these games talk about, they grab the hotest street racing cars out there, And why dont they have Ford Mustangs, I mean I aint a fan of ford.they should make a game, for the people. and ask what do they want in a street racing game. There are so many cars, I see every weekend night. that they should put in a street racing game, Fords,Chevys, dodge etc. And they really need to put a story behind the game, so far all it has is, gaining a rep.

MY vewiw point... From MN Boi |
| BlackBOI Rock from Minnesota says (10/Sep/2004): |
When looking at underground and SRS,, I think the are both good games. They have great cars and the graphics are outsanding.. But i think that underground has better sound quality.. IN underground the sound makes me feel like im actual in a real car.. But on SRS the sound is generic sounding.. If they had to make a better game.. THey should have the cars have more real sound on them.. A better exhust sound.. I was playing SRS and when i was driving the skyline it sounded almost real but not real enough.. TO the people that make the game please make the sound real.. I say if i had to rate both of the games i would give UNder ground 7/10 ANd SRS a 8.5/10 beacuse of the limited costamizations and the sound.. PLus the songs.. I never heard those.. THanx.. Oh and email me

s.r.s.=dumbness |
| nathan from morgantown says (8/Sep/2004): |
my review of this so called ( street racing game), if thats what you call it is that the game was terrible. now one might think this is awesome and cool with the flashy backgrounds, but there is no way i would ever buy this game. you are happy a civic isnt on there, give me a break. they put an mr 2 spyder on the game. those cars suck. plus i built up a volkswagon golf to 500 horsepower and the thing ran slower than a 76 gremlin on 2 cylinders. and they give you like what four car company choices. if you ask me i think gran turismo 4 is going to be the best racing game on the planet. so what it all boils down to is: this game sucks, the graphics suck, cars look like their going 10 miles an hour, and anyone who thinks this game is cool has seen the fast and the furious too much because this is not anything close to real.
|
.....What about the drift & drag?? |
| steve from chatham,ont. canada says (7/Sep/2004): |
Srs dont even come close to N4SU or GT3 when it come to drift or drag race, the control suck(for the gamecube anyway)wich make it difficult to slide around the place as for the drag its there but not enough for my personnal taste. So if you like to drift like crazy or drag go with N4SU as for racing well the best is still the Gran Turismo series. As for Srs the game is still fun to play the girl are great and cute the music suck (not like N4SU at least you could pick wich one you want while racing or in the menu and all) money is easy as hell to make and girlfriend to easy of a challenge to get final point it worth the 30$ i paid for.

Fun against Flaws |
| Nitro Fish from Connecticut, U.S.A. says (6/Sep/2004): |
If you ask me, I say that S.R.S. is a lot better than Need For Speed: Underground. They finally took out that cheesie Honda Civic. They give you a good variaty of cars, BETTER MUSIC THAN UNDERGROUND, and there's a free roam moade. Not to mention the police cruising around. S.R.S. actually made cars look nice. For example: The skyline in Underground was large and boxie. It was hard to make look nice at all with the normal body kits. In SRS it actually looks better. Not to mention the small addition with the beloved Tureno from Initial-D. I actually took that thing to the pass and practiced with it. I beat my friend's Subaru (Tricked out, too)
As for the flaws. The game is simply too freaking short. I beat it after two nights and a few hours. The funny part was, I was borrowing the game from my friend, Joey. My brother didn't get me my copy until after I beat it. Sad, huh? Also, they didn't put a horrible speed effect in the game. I says I'm moving at 190mph, when I feel 130mph instead. Also, lack of parts, and designing a cars visuals. Limited Vinyls, one body kit, certain parts. I mean, what happen to all of the markets?
The game has many flaws, but overall, it's better than Underground. Underground was boring, but the only thing I liked about it was the LARGE choice of designs and customization. In conclusion, Underground had the whole customizing option going on, lacked the effect of actuall street racing. While, as for S.R.S., it's the complete opposite. It has a great street racing effect, but lack of customization.

Better Than I Expected |
| Hoser from Minnesota, USA says (6/Sep/2004): |
This game is way better than others had said. sowhat if there are no hondas, it just shows that there are others out there. i am getting kinda sick of seeing them every where, not to mention the nissan skylines. overall the game is great. NFSU laked the ability to do the same races over with out starting a new game.not to mention that NFSU didnt have the women. As for the handling its not that bad, it just takes a few minutes to get used to after playing NFSU. graphics are good music could be more plentiful by having actual songs played on the radio.

BETTER CARS THAN NFSU AND ae86 TRUENO |
| Tre from Antioch,California,USA says (5/Sep/2004): |
SRS is a total different racing game than need 4 speed underground. N4SU is based off underground circut racing, SRS is true underground street racing.True that the game has some flaws, but hey so did need 4 speed underground. N4SU2 is gonna be out soon it is now going to follow the SRS story mode, comparing the two games is like comparing Midnight Club and Inital D. Besides 3 wrx's 2 evo's (7&8) and the legendary ae86 Trueno or Corolla GTS is not bad. I did not wast any money im happy I got the game and true street racing fans would like this game. Oh yea Euro cars suck, Honda all the way although SRS is missing them.

its good |
| jamal from Usa says (5/Sep/2004): |
I just rented it it because nfsu is getting stupid but srs is way better than nfsu the graghics everything nfsu is just fake for example wen yu go to aa race u automatically end up ight there in srs yu drive there and it has more features its just that it cant be cutomized to much but its good because imean its no grand turismo but its cinda klose

Weak. |
| Mike from trevose, pa says (5/Sep/2004): |
This game is cheap crap. Every race can easily be beat. Damage model = rediculous. Tuning the cars is rather boring, cool concept, but boring. The handling of the cars is crap. They either ride on rails, or fly out of control. The graphics are bottom shelf for PS2 so far in its life. No Hondas? The "pick up chicks" aspect is a good idea, but its distracting from the whole idea of a racing game. Go look at porn online. When you spray, the point of view for the car changes, and as soon as you let go of the button, the view changes again, making for an easy crash. The sounds are pathetic. Not even close to NFSU.
Bottom line is: This game is a craptastic waste of time. If you aren't skilled enough to play the gran turismo series or cant handle NFSU, this weak game will do you just fine. Save your money and wait for GT4 and NFSU 2.

Not a very satifying title at all.... |
| TECH from Fort Worth, TX, USA says (5/Sep/2004): |
I will admit it did bring something different to the table... a game made with NO EFFORT. ALL this game really did was take Midnight CLUB 2 graphics, Auto Modelistas physics, and CLAIMS to have 50 cars (and there really only like 15 DIFFERENT CARS). I was very dissappointed in NAMCO for this title because I usually like there games like Ridge Racer and such, but this was horrible. NFSU set the parameters for graphics all they had to do was follow them. I do like the look of the cars, I dont like the limited amount of customization available to the player. What's really stupid is that I can earn $100,000 in less than an hour but i can't buy a $19,000 dollar car until i unlock it. The jump option in the game is great, I would stop playing if I had to drive everywhere on this crappy game. To tell the truth it isn't so bad you can't play it, its just that the way this game is it should have been released 2 years ago. Game developer have long surpassed the premise of this title more than a year ago. Ages in "game years" I hate to say it but now I believe that this game tried to rely upon the gimmicks, of DANCING MODEL VIDEOS, which probably took up alot of space on the disk it self. I love skylines, but this game made it so that only the skyline is any good. I just don't get it why waste all that potential on model videos when this game could have been great. I should have known this game was going to fail when I still didn't see that much promotion on it (and yes i was looking) even up to the day it came out. The sense of speed, NOT THERE, a sense of control on any car but the skyline, NOT THERE, decent damage effects, NOT THERE, CAR sounds, KINDA THERE, GOOD music, DEFINITELY NOT THERE,LIFESPAN, SHORTER THAN A BUTTERFLY'S. I am so angry, i want my NFSU I sold for this game back. OH yeah, and 2-player, don't even get me started on that balogna.

blow nfsu out of the water definatly worth the money |
| Mike from commack, New York, USA says (5/Sep/2004): |
this game blends the physics of real street caring with the fun of non reality in the arcade mode now the first thing i knowticed that i love is the fact that their are no hondas (they dont belong anyway because all honda models are slow as hell) i have already beaten nfsu and i can say there are a lot of things this game has that nfsu doesnt the graphics are more realistic because even nfsu2's graphics dont look like the real thing but this game will cover that another good thing is the models you can choose from like an eclipse gs-t gt and so on not just one model now some bad things there is only one body kit per car... which is no where near nfsu but the nfsu body kits looked very ugly and the lack of a custom paintjob system (because the color choices could be a lot better) but this is not a copy of nfsu actually it was origionally intended to come out 3 days earlier than nfsu but the copany making this game went out of busniess and the game rights were sold to namco who took a while to put it out because of lack of funds so really if you look at it nfsu is the copier of srs well anyway you should definatly buy this game it is well worth the money and just for reading this (if you have xbox) heres a hint for good luck: when you have gotten very far in the game with a high hp car go online to play a pink slip race before doing so make sure you have a memory card save you info to the mc then take it out and play online if you win any cars go back and save then to your memory card (this will keep all the cars you win without ever having to worry about starting over (the same can be done with ps2 or GC all you need is a 2nd memory card)
|
er.......this is fun? |
| Dave from Spokane,WA says (4/Sep/2004): |
I just rented it, bored of NFSU, played for a hour. Handling is aweful,Braking realism is below NASCAR games! And I agree Wheres the Honda's, MY VW'S NEED TO SMOKE THEM! Poor parts selection. Glad i rented it! Altho the chicks are HOT!! I dont think its worth the price tag. What I'd like to know, where are the true euro cars at? If u got this for a present its sweet, if u paid 50$ u got ripped off!
|
this game rocks |
| SWleader from Vermont, USA says (4/Sep/2004): |
i dont no why this game gets bad reviews. i have it and i have nfs underground. SRS is way better. i think it gets bad reviews because people think its copying underground, which its not. this game is far better and the AI is way better. Under ground has rubberband AI which sucks. This doesnt. This game has the best car building set up ever and you should but it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
This Game is not near what the guy below said(It's way better) |
| Yo from Lexington Ohio USA says (3/Sep/2004): |
The guy below this is a bunch a crap this game may not have Honda but it rocks and the graphics are way better than NFS Underground and it not unrealistic there aren't any flashing signs or what ever except at sanctioned events like at the race tracks the streets are awesome a negative is the amount of street racers out on the streets in this game there are like three actually driving and then some that are parked over at the side you can race. The physics are a mix between Gran Turismo 3 and an arcade type like R:Racing Evolution(Namco's Gran Turismo style game with sorta arcadey physics)Sound in the game is pretty sweet though I don't think changing the exhaust pipe does any thing to the sound of the car which was one big negative for me. Well I believe that if YOU were to buy this game it would most likely last a long time because I'm pretty sure this game is going to take a long time to beat I never beat the game I'm still in the first city and it does take alot of work to beat your opponent when you get further along in the game not to mention the first city
