Driving Miss Daisy.... | | Russell Furnival from Jersey, UK says (29/Dec/2003): | Well, after reading a couple of reviews on this page one of my own is needed!
From the moment I found out that MarioKart was coming out on the Cube I was concerned, lets face it the 64 version was a bit simple and a complete rehash (if not graphically perfect).
But once I had finished the first race, I realised that my concern was misplaced.
MarioKart: Double Dash is one of Ninty's finer moments, and here's why.
Lets start with the ONLY reason ANYONE should buy a game.
GAMPLAY.
If you are a fan of hardcore racing games then the challenge of DD should get you fixed within about an hour of play. If not then the ease of use of the controls and the whole atmos' of the game will have you hooked in minutes.
The goal is simple, Come first in every race (4 per cup, 4 Cups plus two special modes)
Easier said then done. Around the course you will find blocks that once driven through will give you a random item (or 2). This is where the race gets interesting. Use these items to slow, spin, smash, shrink or blow up your rivals Karts. This will give you a chance to get ahead of the pack, but the computer has a knack of making sure you are constantly pressured thereby never allowing one person to win a game just cos' they know the track and can drive well.
For me that would have been enough, but the fact that there are two characters on the kart and their size effects which Kart you have and what Special items you get adds a whole new dimension. This game in single player mode wil have you up for nights on end trying to unlock all the secret stuff (Of which there is plenty!)
Where this game really comes into its own is when you get a friend involved. Once you have plugged that 2nd controller in, you can play the main (Grand Prix) mode together (plus all the other modes). This really does eleviate stress from the driver and makes those crucial slides a tiny but easier. You can also switch driver and passenger at anytime you wish. Driving against each other is still as fun as ever (Four grown men using all the swear words in the english vocab' and some not) and sets the scene for some major disagreements between long time friends.
GRAPHICS
Somewhere on this review page somebody has said that the game is not up to standard for a 3rd Gen console. Please, that chap from OZ, can you find me another driving game on ANY console that has such clarity in its gaming. NO fogging, NO pop-up, NO slow-down, just fantasically dazzling colours that, if you are not careful, wil have you mesmerised if not a little dazzed as to what the heck is going on. Ok, so it all looks a bit cute (I hear the grown men cry) but thats not the point! If you buy a game purley cos its looks good, has loads of gore or is of mature content you will be dissapointed more times than not! As I said at the top Gameplay is the most important element in any game. The fact that I have had 4 hardend vetrens squeling at each other round my house, whilst playing DD seems to prove my point. In fact all of those people said that they would buy a Cube just for DD, its the competitive edge that game brings that makes it so much fun (I didn't hear you guys complaining about the graphics when you had your Spectrums and Amstrads!)
SOUND
Ok, so the sound does let it down a little, but sound isn't all that important in this game so stick some thrash metal or whatever you like on, and turn the volume down, you won't miss anything, I promise.
OVERVIEW
I cant fault this game, and I promise you I am being not being bias. If you have any concerns about the game, I shared them. If you think cute characters are a problem, then grow up and see the game for what it truly is, A driving game mixed with a Battle Royal of epic proportion's. The learning curve is perfect, and in later stages the horrific violence (Mums dont worry, its all done in the best Nintendo taste!) caused by 8 Karts and 16 Characters all gunning for glory is truly enjoyable. Get a couple of friends along for the ride and i
the game becomes one of the greatest multi-players to date.
A definate MUST BUY for the cube.
| Double The Fun | | Thomas from Melbourne, Australia says (4/Apr/2004): | Take the crazy fun from all past Mario Kart games and then multiply it by two. This is what this game is about. Allowing you to take control of not one but two characters. This is one of Nintendo's finest. This could possibly be the Gamecube's greatest multiplayer.
Mario Kart: Double Dash is all about teamwork. No longer do racers ride solo. They have to team up and work as a team. Not only that, the decision of kart has to be made, which makes things more interseting. As well as that, each character has a unique weapon that only he or she can use. Although this may be alot different than the past Mario Kart games, it simply just falls into place nicely.
As usual there are different levels of difficulty in the game. 50cc, 100cc and 150cc, as well as mirror mode which can be unlocked, not forgetting the inclusion of being able to unlock hidden characters, karts and even speacial cups.
Nothing much has changed in Grand Prix mode. You race on four different tracks (or 16 in a hidden tour) and are awarded points at the end of each race. The points system has changed a bit from Mario Kart 64 and no longer do you have to finish 4th or better to qualify to the next race. Co-op mode is when two people using seperate controllers wish to race as a team. Each person controls a different character. Team work is required here.
Battle mode has been made a whole lot more enjoyable. There are now three modes in which to choose from. Battle mode still has a place in this version of Mario Kart. Each player begins with three balloons attached to thier kart. Throughout the game you try to knock, hit, etc. the other players in order for them to lose their balloons. A handy new feature allows others to steal other peoples balloons, either by boosting into them with a turbo, sliding into them or sending them flying when you have a star active.
Shine thief invovles a Super Mario Sunshine shine being placed on the battlefield. It is a race to see who can get to it first. When someone has retrieved it a timer will appear on the screen. If the player who is in possesion of the shine can keep it for the time remaining, they win. If the lose it by getting hit, struck by lightning, etc. they lose it and its a race to see who can get to it first. The game ends when a player holds it for the allocated time.
Bob-omb blast is my favourite. In this mode everyone can get their hands on bob-ombs. Its a battle to see who can hit four people the fastest. Points can gained and lost by getting hit or hitting someone. It is crazy.
Finally, what is the game like graphicly and gameplay-wise? Firstly, the graphics are astounding. Very few mistakes and they reach the gamecube's standards. Gameplay is a bit of a let-down. This game is absolutely fun to play with others, but alone, after everything has been unlocked, nothing screams attention for you to keep playing it. Plus the fact that in 50cc and 100cc the speed that the karts go is slow and is just not right, adds to it.
Other than that this game is a must for gamecube owners. Don't let this one go by, you'll regret it.
| This game is awesome | | Jordan from Presque Isle, ME says (19/Jan/2004): | Way better than the original. There are many new items such as a giant koopa shell and a huge banana. There is a classic blue shell but it can fly! The level's are awesome because of the Gamecube's great graphics. The new way of playing this is cool. (I wish they had that on the N64 version)
Sound: Classic sounds such as the cart engine is not changed very much. The music is better, but some levels' music hasn't changed, but there is some difference because it is a different system. The sound of The weapons character screaming because he is being dragged is funny and most deffinatly new.
Graphics: Not needing to be said, because of the new systems the graphics are a lot better. And the characters' are looking.........well, alive! The other things such as the backrounds have better graphics. The water looks real. And the scenery looks real also. The creatures such as a bowser statue, a pirana plant, and chain chomps look perfect.
Gameplay: The gameplay is changed because the systems have very different controlers. And you cant bounce. For a couple of things, the attack button used to be Z and is now Y. They are in very different positions. The accelerate is still the A button, and are in basically the same place. The skid button was R, and it still is. Besides the controlers, the gameplay of the actual game is still pretty simple. The point of the game is to get trophies by beating your oponents to the finish line using weapons and powerups. Then unlocking characters, cars, tracks, and cups. (Another changed thing)
Lifespan: Pretty good. I could see myself playing this for a while. Beating the game will be hard because to officialy beat Mario Kart Double dash you must unlock all carts, tracks, cups, characters and wining all the trophies. That is one heck of a challenge!
Fun factor: All I can say is that It is very high and in my opinion a ten out of ten. Of course people who don't like racing styled games would not like this. Or maybe they didn't like the original Mario Kart 64. If you don't meet these standards don't buy the game. You most likely wouldn't like it if you didn't like the old game.
Originality: Of course it's changed because of the new double dash way of mario kart. But the controls are somehow near the same and in most ways it is like the old game except with more characters, new levels, and carts. They are still very different. But it is most like any other racing game.
Value: I would buy it if i werew you. But if you don't meet the standards (see fun factor above) you might not want to buy the game. I would pay $50 for this game wouldn't you? (See all above)
That's what I think of Mario Kart: Double dash. E-mail me sometime if you want more info before you buy it.
| Pros and Cons | | A gamer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin says (24/Nov/2003): | It seems unfair to say "it was a great game, but." Nevertheless, despite the greatness of Mario Kart: Double Dash, there are certain things about the other Mario Kart games that we wish were still around. I never played the SNES version, so I cannot make that comparison. The GBA one was possibly the most annoying, and unfair of all. My true MK test is the glorious N64 version. Nothing beat sabotaging a group of enemies on the ramp in Wario Stadium with a banana strand or lightning bolt, so they'd all fall a half lap behind you. Ha! Here, the strands are gone. replaced by the cumbersome giant banana that only DK and Diddy can use. You can no longer hit the breaks to keep from slipping out on a banana peel. You can no longer "hold" items behind your cart to protect you from incoming attacks. The battle stages that were once glorious in the N64 version are now just plain ol' square fields. There is no longer element of hide-and-seek, or the thrill of the hunt as there was before.
Most of the improvements on the title are for the better, though. The enemy AI is markedly improved. Enemies seem to crash with reckless abandon. Their recovery time is suspect however, especially the heavyweights. If you fall off the track, you'll find that you don't go from first place to last within 2 seconds, as you once did. In previous games the characters were pixels or model scans, here they are far more animated and beautifully rendered than ever before. The spoken character dialog is a lot less annoying, and at times, quite hilarious. There's a lot more strategy in choosing characters. The tracks may seem like rehashes in some cases, but insane tracks like the Wario Coliseum more than make up for that. The higher speed tracks are remarkably brutal, but I guess we wouldn't have it any other way. Random Mario baddies also line the tracks, like goombas, piranah plants, and the most annoying villains in Mario Sunshine -- those round beach ducks that flip you high into the air, just to hear you scream. I'm glad that Toad made his way into this game somehow. Now only if only I could unlock him.
Multiplayer can be loads of fun, but next time, I'd like to see eight or more mammoth battle stages, complete with multiple floors, hidden paths, stage specific goodies, and of course ONLINE PLAY! C'mon Nintendo, bite the Bullet Bill.
| This game is great, Why complain? | | John from Schenectady, NY, USA says (31/Dec/2003): | This is to that dolt who spent 5 hours in line for a goddamn game console. First of all what kind of loser spends that kind of time in a store. Second of all if it honeslty took you three hours to beeat the entire game I'd have to say your a frekin loser and play console games far to much. Does the phrase social event mean anything to you? This game is obviously a huge step up from it's 1990's partners on the prior game systems. Theere is yet to be a racing game that is this much fun. Especially if you have that magic word "friends" its a great group game thats why I bought it. And I dont spend 500 hours a week playing it either. Its a good screwing around game. Sure the multiplayer battle mode is lacking with its boring open space stages, but the difficulty of the cooperative mode makes it a hell of a lot better game. The game is based on some luck but then again what game isn't, Also I think you'll find that if you play it long enough you'll see that you pick up your skill level and win a lot more, making the game a skill game with some luck involved(Which is exactly what racing is). The coop mode is killer and if you "HAVE FRIENDS" this game is a definnant bye. the best part is working simulataneously with the same cart dodging shells and wasting enemies.
As for the graphics they're fine for the game. What exactly are people trying to expect from a game based on mario? Do you actually want him to look like a hairy, 1950's mobster plummer? Come on good games are based on the game play and not the graphics. Besides I don't know what your complaining about the gameplay is smooth and I have yet to encounter any glitches in the system. No disapearing walls or missing corners, everything is just where it should be. on a final note this is definately not a kids game. My 10 year old brother who I consider to be a pretty good Gamer sucks at driving mario and his pals around. The games difficult enough to be for mature gamers and is deffinately worth the buy. Don't listen to those reviews from PS2 or Xbox enthusiasts.
| Great game...Can't say much more than that! | | Iceman from Illinois, USA says (9/Dec/2003): | This game is great. I have no idea what some people mean when they say that it is lacking. Something that I have read a lot is the lack of the ability to jump in Double Dash. C'mon...now think about it. Was it really logical that you could jump in a go-kart in the others? What real go-kart do you know that you can jump in. Now, I know this is a game, but they have made it a little more realistic in some aspects in Double Dash. The graphics in this game are superb. I remember seeing ideas of what people thought this game was going to look like. I have to admit that I was not expecting this, but I really like it. The characters have movement. You can see what each item does and why it works like it does. I like that certain karts have different abilities along with different characters as well. The levels are tough and feature many hard turns and dangers. There are not very many straight-a-ways that make it really dumb like some games. I've only had the game for a couple days now, and I am addicted...and so is my roomate and the other guys in my dorm. I can't wait to play 8 players when one of my friends gets his broadband and game. The ability to unlock other stages, courses, characters, and cups is a great addition to the game. I know the original SNES was cool, especially cause there was nothing like it before, but this game is definately a step in the right way for Nintendo. It brings back the fun to racing go-karts. There is none of the killing or whatever else that is in many of the racing games of today. If you ask me, I am glad that Nintendo is targeting more of the younger generation with good clean games for them to play. They have enough stupid stuff for them to get involved in already than to also play games about it. I like the fact that the game is easy to get used to as well. This is also nice for younger players. This game is very fun, and I definately recommend it to anyone who liked the old ones or is looking for a new fun game. Go out and play it today!
| Small Boards, Few Battle Boards, Easy to Pass= Another Gamecube Letdown | | Joshua from Binghamton says (2/Dec/2003): | OK another let down from the gamecube. I dont know about anyone else but I dont think that gamecube has put out a hit yet. I waited in line for five hours to get my gamecube in the hopes of game classics like, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart, Super Mario, Perfect Dark, Zelda being put out and being greater and better then the originals. I have not seen one of these games even come close except maybe Zelda. Mario Kart is no exception. This game I was looking forward to and couldnt wait to get it. When I finally got it I got the same feeling as every other game Ive bought, disappointment. It took me about 3 hours to pass the whole game. The boards were so small, and the best part of Mario Kart in the past was battle, and the boards are so small its boring. This was a strike out, again. I think im about done with Nintendo. You can tell that there marketing efforts are put forth towards kids. Why did they let Rareware go? Wheres perfect Dark? Why are al the Games so short? Is it because the Discs cant handle enough? Are better Graphics worth the games not being as good? I was about the only person left in my area trying to stick up for Nintendo, and after everyone sees me getting these new games how can I argue that they dont put out any good games? I think im seriousely going to buy an X-Box, which at one point I said would never happen. If anyone from Nintendo is reading this understand this "Your company with its recent market change will not be succesful, Fact is most people who buy games are not just little kids, and most people I know have systems to, and all used to be Nintendo lovers. Now all of them converted to other systems. I think that its a given that Nintendo wont be out for long.Good Luck and change your strategy."
| This game is for pimps only | | A gamer from The Colony, Texas says (30/May/2005): | It's hard to say.... what are the words I'm looking for... Ah yes! THE BEST GAME ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET!!! I've got some pros and cons, but, let me tell ya, the pros outweigh the cons by 99.9%!!
Pros: This is one game where multiplayer madness can grasp hold of your mind in an instant. It's awesome, and the fun just won't back down. Gameplay is very deep. You might even be playing this five years from now while your Sony collects dust and all kinds of other crap. Music and sound seem to blow right out of your stereos and into your room! It's powerful and catchy, not to mention character voice acting was magnificant! Kart design was intresting and colorful. Weapons are unique to each Person, which adds to the chaos on the dangerous roads of the Mushroom Kingdom. The courses are different and may be even dangerous! Ex: Chain Chomps, ice, rocks, 300 foot drops, wooden bridges, ect... Unlockables include secret characters, new courses, and the infamous mirror mode!!! And to top it all off, there is a cup that lets you play all 16 race courses at once! Finally, there is LAN. This allows all players to race on different telivisions without the splitscreen option. Yes, this isn't a wonderful feature, but it is fun. Now, to the cons.
Cons: Graphics were a littly sloppy. If you ever get a close up of Mario or some other guy, they appear blocky. Also, COM AI could have been harder. I always find myself placing 1st every race, which doesn't present that big of a challenge.
All in all, this has to be one of my favorite games of all time. See if you agree! 10/10
| Hmmmmmmm | | A gamer from Newcastle, England says (23/Nov/2003): | This game is good, i'd even go as far to say it's very good. But you also have to ask yourself what could have been. As usual the one player gradually gets a little boring. Once you've unlocked everything there isn't much to keep you going back for more. You can unlock Toad, Toadette, Petey Piranha and King Boo as contollable characters. The karts you unlock don't seem a little unrewarding though you can unlock two more battle arena's aswel. But, and this is a big but, the battle arena's are the biggest gripe i have with this game. The only decent battle arena is the one with the warp pipes on it. Why didn't they just recreate at least one arena from the old SNES mario kart? four or more players on that would have been superb. The trouble is that there is alot of luck element involved when your just in one big square with no corner to cut off those pesky red shells tailing ya!!! The time trial also seems a little uninspiring. The old SNES version required pin point cornering and seemed all together a little more controllable. Here you'll find yourself flying all over the track no matter how heavy your Kart. Don't get me wrong, this game is good. You can still have hours of laughs with ya mates but the one player gets to boring to fast. there isn't enough to keep you interested. Four players is where it's all happening. I've burnt away a fare few hours on four players with this game. you may say there's nothing better than a bit of four play, wink wink.

| | Brain Combo from Washington Dc, France! says (20/Feb/2004): | This is mario at his highest bestest. The Mario can do many-a things, including jump, run, stand really still for a long time, jump, jumper higher, be an over bad-butt, injure your friends and loved ones if threatened, and jump. Also, during power outages in the great metro or non-metro area of your town or village, Throw this your game at a wall, tree, person, or gangsta rapping his bling, yo! Mario is a red guy from Germany. Contrary to lots of popularity believers, Mario is not directly related to Luigi, who is a sick, lieing, son of a GYPSY. I am the loving the game. Get this game, or rent it at a purchasing store, to have the fun of the throwing or the jumping or of the dancing to the great music. The music is like of that of that of a local-band that plays not-so-quality mario-type music. I love to eat my favorite cheesburger while watching the openeing and playing with my toes and peting my dog and talking on the cellular tellphone and getting the mail and doing my homework and beating up my crippled cousin Andy. Andy does not like Mario because Andy does not have a neck. Andy should get a neck {and a life [ and Mario}and a non-metro mario music jammin band]), so he can enjoy all that he can enjoy, at the beauty parler my aunt with no neck owns. In general, Mario the great! Mario has a nice neck. Overall, my cousin with no neck gives me the heasy-buh-jeasys fo' sheasy and needs to buy Mario cause the great! I love! Mario the next? OUI!
| a good try but not good enough to give us fans double dash fun! | | Axel Ballesteros from Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA. says (29/Nov/2003): | hey guys, I just have to say that this game is not exactly what I was excitedly waiting for...If you are a really mario kart 64 game fan do not expect this new game to be any similar to its predecessor. I mean the game has improved when it comes to graphics and playability. Now you are able to choose among more characters and two players fit into a single car, that's kind of fun but still I wanted more! When you first play the game you can see how lame and unimaginative the levels are; they have exceeded the limit of childish tracks, they are so short you don't think about nothing but your own disappointment when you play this game. I used to be a huge, enormous, exaggerated mario kart fan, but when I played the so called double dash version I was really disappointed. you can't jump.CAN'T YOU WITHSTAND THAT! IT IS NOT FAIR. you can't certainly do some exciting things that made mario kart 64 a player's choice game. At last the only thing I have left to say is that the game is not original in any aspect whether it is sound, new levels, fun factor=NONE (IF YOU WANT SINGLE PLAYER FUN)....battle mode....NO COMMENTS...THEY ARE SO BAD I CAN'T THINK OF THE RIGHT WORD TO DESCRIBE IT.....anyways if you want to find out by yourself how good or bad the game is, I would recommed to rent it first, and then make your decision...DO NOT BUY IT FIRST..YOU MIGHT FEEL REGRETFUL AFTERWARDS....
| ITS BRILL!! | | Joe from England says (18/Nov/2003): | Kart racing game for 1-8 players featuring classic Nintendo characters
Pick a partner and race through wild courses as you compete in tough circuits
Choose from a huge cast: Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Wario, and many more
Link the game with eight other players using a broadband adapter and race each other
Bonus disc includes 6 playable demos and 7 mini-movies
The Mushroom Kingdom just got a whole lot more hectic as Mario & Co. double up for furious kart racing! The latest in the acclaimed Mario Kart series is here, and this time you won't be racing alone! Each kart holds two racers, so choose from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Koopa, and Paratroopa. Pair them up any way you see fit. The character in front handles driving duties, while the character in the rear doles out damage with six normal items and eight special items that only specific characters can use. Racers can swap places at any time, so switch it up on the fly to make the best use of your items as you tear around curves and over huge elevation changes. Not only that, up to eight players can participate in a linked game using a broadband adapter to hook up game systems and multiple televisions!
| Excellent Racing Game | | Beaker from Manitoba, Canada says (22/Feb/2004): | Double Dash is an excellent game overall. I admit that I miss the N64 version somewhat, as it had a few more ways to take shortcuts (or maybe I miss that it was easier?), as well as some levels that were just plain excellent. Some of the 'shortcuts' in this version are not shortcuts at all, but will actually set you back and behind the other players!! 150cc on Double Dash is definitely a lot harder than 150cc on N64, which is rewarding for those of us who breezed through the N64 game. The new characters are fun, as well. Two things I wish they had: the ability to play 4 people vs each other in Grand Prix mode (you can't do this on Double Dash; you have to team up with another player), and also, I wish that when you were choosing karts, they listed the capabilities of each kart regardless of whether there are one or four people playing. Battle mode is EXCELLENT and WAY better than N64- the shine thief and bomb game are fantastic and absolutely HILARIOUS to play in groups!! The idea of unlocking new levels is also really rewarding. I don't regret buying this game at all. It's really fun, has excellent graphics, beautiful scenery, great new ideas, and is an overall good time. I highly HIGHLY recommend it!!!
| The best racing game ever made!!! | | Areil Johnson from Weirton, West Virginia,, USA says (8/Feb/2004): | Mariokart: double dash is the best game I own because I love the game and the graphics. The grapics are so much better than the N64 version. The characters are so cool! The grapics are better on all the characters and all the karts. My 2 favorite characters are,Walugi and Wario because they have good speed and you can't get hit off the road as much as you can with everbody else. Out of the games on the shelf this game is best one! I chose the rating of 10 because, the game so totaly rocks and is so much better than the N64 version! Rainbow Road is so much different than the N64 version and harder too because Rainbow Road in the N64 version has less turns and has more borders, unlike the Rainbow Road in the gamecube version that has barely no borders and many turns. All new characters are cool, Daisy, Waluigi, King Boo, and Toadette are all awesome. The game is so awesome I mean "Hey what can I say this game is so awesome that I wouldn't mind owning three of the game".The reason this the best racing game ever made is because all of the graphics, characters, sound effects, courses, karts ,and all the originality. So there you ave it that is my reveiw over Mario Kart: Double Dash.
| My wishes finally fulfilled!!!!!!! | | Rich from Portland, OR, USA says (21/Nov/2003): | Mario Kart: Double Dash!! How brilliant is this. Two characters per car in a quite outstanding sequel to the last games. In my opinion, the graphics are unmatched in any Mario Kart game, although some aspects don't hold up quite as well. The courses are quite fun, although they somewhat lack in creativity and imagination. Not to say that this makes it any less exciting, but I had expected a little more. The only real dissapointment that I found was that you can not jump. That aspect could really come in handy, although two people per vehicle would probably make it really hard to jump turn. On another note, I didnt really like the battle mode courses, until I unlocked Luigi's Mansion. It is true N64 style, and a great looking course. Overall I feel that this is my favorite Gamecube game so far, although the original for Super NES is my favorite game ever, but this is great, and I will definately play it far longer than two weeks, like all my other games. I predict it will be in the top games for up to a few years, based on the many player combinations, and fun factor. Mario Kart will always be the best there is!!!!!!!!!!!
| Its back but way over hyped!!! | | Eddy from LONDON says (15/Nov/2003): | Mario kart double dash is everyone cheer!!!!!
Yes its brilliant yes its the best multiplayer game out but no its not Mario kart 64!!!! shock!!! :0
The game comes with loads of multiplayer friendly options including two new battle modes and an option from two players to drive a kart at once. One player controlling weapons and one driving and its actually fun! :) The one player is also great and the new special weapons make the game even crazier then before but where the game lets itself down is the track. Sure theres loads of them just like every other mario kart but its the design and legth of some of the tracks which are poor. They just aren't as imagenative as the last games with with few fun features apart from the special cup!!!
And worst of all the YOU CAN'T JUMP!! NOOOoooooooOOooOOoooo :0
But dont let this put you off the game is really cool and puts and is defiantly a game you spend the whole night and morning playing with your friends while getting pissed and off your head when the pubs closed!!!! worth every penny. its just not 64 :(
| Mario Kart Double Dash Worth it or not? | | steve from melb, australia says (24/Nov/2003): | The True spirit of any Mario game has always
been simple to play and become very addictive
mario kart has over the years brang a racing kart
experince which has the most influeced characters
for Nintendo which sony tried with crash bandicoot and failed
in 2000 if i remember.
This is a great game to play as the game unfolds,
showing what mario kart was all about and the action
characters the levels.
It seems only the begining another mario kart is ever going
to come out more levels are required i know 12 levels are huge
but they seemed to be similar to the previous n64 and snes versions.
The new version seem to break ground with the two players on the same kart and the multi player but need to have more secrets and levels to unlock, and a bonus game of mario kart etc like a snes version but redone with different levels as well the characters.
Great game to play, just not enough to keep playing for a while
unless your having a gathering of mates then take out the game from the shelf where it s collecting dust.
| IT'S A KIDS GAME........DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | RI from Rochester,MI says (30/Nov/2003): | Ok First of all how can you people even compare past versions of mario kart to this version. Ok i admit playing mario kart on snes and 64 fun but what you must realize is mario kart is a childerens game. On 64 the racing laps were a bit longer but it did not keep a childs attention very long. Especially Rainbow road where it got hard to see after the second lap and it was and extremely long course. Plus the new game keeps your interest better cause now you have to win new cars and some new racing teams. The graphics are excellent. I love the double people cars and the levels are new and exciting. And after beating the 4th cup you get the mirrored levels and once you beat that you get a new racing team. What the courses lack in size they make up in difficulty. it is definitely harder to beat the levels then in the 64 or snes versions. Oh and one more thing for the people who said it is a waist of your money you should have rented the game first before buying it if you feel that way. The game is awesome and worth every cent.
| Good game, just not long enough | | Daniel from California, USA says (26/Nov/2003): | This was a great game. All the way through it was fun, and very addicting. You really have to finish the entire game before posting on this though. You can unlock 2 new battle mode stages, 4 new characters, many new cars, extra cups, this game never stops giving. You can unlock 2 new cup modes, you have 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc, like 64 version, not to mention you can unlock Mirror mode, which reverses all the tracks, really screws you yp after you've won em all forwards!. I give this game a 8, simply because it was about 13 hours of play to beat, and for 50 bucks, you gotta get more, not to mention there weren't enough shortcuts, and one of my favorite things for 64 was flying off Rainbow Road into the middle of NOWHERE! then landing on another road and being half a lap in front of everyone, however you don't see that type of fun in this one... All together, I LOVED like 5 of the new tracks, the rest were just old skool stuff that was...satisfying. Pretty good game, I give it a 8.
| Correction | | the dragon from Milwaukee is bad! from Adelaide, Australia says (28/Nov/2003): | I believe this game is excellent in most ways for example the graphics, the sound, the playability and so on. There is one thing the game lacks and that is good multiplayer battle levels. If you're looking forward to playing the game and having fun on the multiplayer battle levels well it's not like previous Mario Kart games. The battle levels are lame and boring and I believe that they could have done a better job in creating fun battle levels. The worst one is the gamecube one which is just a square. If you have a LAN cable it wouldn't be good for battle because the battle levels are so bad and they would also be too small to enjoy with 8 people
P.S. Oi the dragon from Milwaukee, there is so an extra cup after you finish the first three so get your facts staight!!!!!!!!
Tuhh, you obviously are one of those dumb people that just assume things before fully being sure.
