Golden oldy | | ROSK B from ENGLAND says (10/Apr/2004): | This one is probablt the only game i ever remeberd playing on ps1. This was because of its anazing gameplay and outstanding graphics. I remember fighting mantis and thinking my television was broken or something. ACE. I could go on all day saying great things about it but no need because They brought out a remake and before i go on all the remakes on the gamecube ( resident evil for example ) are brilliant and this one is no exeption. Pure brillience is what went into the remake of this game and it was all thanks to the original greaters and silicon knights. The grphics are smoother, The characters react to environments, Facial movements, BLOOD ( YES YOU READ CORRECTLY ) ADDED weapons ( well only two but they are kool. THese new guns are tranquilizers and you probably use them more than any other gun in the game ). All the twists and turns in the plot are there ( nothing in the story line has changed ) ITS EXACTLY AS IT WERE IN THE PS1 VERSION BUT WITH IMPROVEMENTS. Some say this is bad because tey arent going to get any more from the game and if you have played it before youll be able to complete it in about 3-4 hours ( this is true) but if you buy to watch all the fmv sequences ( or whatever there called now ) YOu ll probably be completing the game in around 6 hours. Take your time look around ( if you played the game before you ll see old stuff in a new light )THis is how the game was ment to be. I personally belive that this game was better than sons of liberty and substance because of the plot mainly but this game had more going fo it. They really went to town on this game to get everything perfect and they did. The game runs at 60 which is excellent although it drops in some of the boss battles but does not effect the gameplay. On the gameplay note there have been several addition. The first being the ability to aim in first person mode with your weapon which adds a lot more fun to the game although you cannot walk around in this view ( which is good in my oppinion ) You can now hang from leges to excape guards and even just to jump down to the floor below. The over all control system is much smoother ( the controls will take getting use too ( bout an hour ) as you can be unsure what to press at the right time. You can also hide bodies in cuboards, check enermies for items and even tell them to "FREEZE" if you sneek up on them. YOu can at the end get the stelth suit or bandana like you could in the ps1 ersion which is ace ( the stelth suit is actually like it should be and not green like it was in the first version of the game). The thing that makes this game brilliant really is the little things like realism. The way the snow actuallaly poors down, and the rain hitting your head and splashing to the ground, wind blowing your hair and bandana everywhere it can. The pixils in the game are amazing. The AI is now more inteligent often taking a random pattern to search just to make you stay alert. You can now sneak, walk and run thankx to the analogue system. You can crawl at different speeds. YOu can now dish out head shots to kill your enermies instantly. Its now so fixed on realism that youd thik you were watching a real life incident. Its great.
NOW THE MINOR BAD THINGS.
Some of the acents of the characters you can call on your codec have changed and lack a bit of realism. This doesnt effect gameplay but it does throw you if you have played the first game. If you were hoping for more staory then yo may be disapointed after all this is an exact remake. I think the story stands well on its own though. Some people say that the adding of moves like climbing over rails and stuff is bad but if it didint have anyting new it would put people off. I think that the extras are exicuted well and give the game that added boost. Also When you kill an AI and they were talking to someone on the phone and they suddenly stop talking the person on the other end will get back up to check it out. There are also more AI then there was in the first so be aware.
Over all this game is good, if you have played it before then its it worth getting again, if you are new to metal gear then this is a game you must own. Lets hope they stop making metal gear games for only ps2 and xbox. And by th way this game is exclusive to gamecube so IT a must get as exclusive are a bit rare at the min.
| Solid and Liquid | | A gamer from toronto ontario canada says (19/Apr/2004): | this game is amazing even though its the first one but there are better graphics and new scenes in the cinamas and solid snake liquid snake and the rest of the characters look so much better and this one has the same stuff as Metal Gear Sold 2 like the somersaults hanging and atleast u get to play with snake the whole game not like the second one and this is the best Metal Gear Solid game i played this far and i cant wait this year cuz Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is comin out!!
| More history made with yet another Metal Gear title | | "Casval" from Oregon City, Oregon says (2/Dec/2004): | I am one of the many loyal fans of Hideo Kojima's legendary games. But the greatest Playstation 1 game has just become even greater then ever. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes takes the old school Metal Gear fans for a new ride, and noobie players to discover the greatest tactical espionage game on the market to date.
To start with the good, the game follows the old script, but with brand new graphics, sounds, voices (don't worry, same actors), and the whole-bit. This old classic is beefed up in every concievable way. Old-school gamers may get that feeling of being draged back into Shadow Moses, and new gamers may feel the same way. A truly legendary story makes this game one of the best plot-based games in video gaming history. New cinema style cut-scenes make this game like a playable movie. Wacth the boring, yet plot-building parts, play all the action and sneaking around. Though it is old school Metal Gear Solid, it has the gameplay of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty/Substance in it. A brand new way to play this game. With more added features like briefing and lots of goodies under special, this game has gotten even more entertainment level. Characters are better then before. Solid Snake is more badass, and more athletic (hint-hint backfliping in mid-air suit your needs?). All the characters have added more emotion in them then before. Cyborg Ninja is more awsome, Vulcan Raven is more strong...And Liquid Snake is even more evil. Though this game doesn't suit everyones expectations, it is right up there next to flawless.
Only little things may hurt this game. One noticable thing is that there are way too many easter eggs of Silicon Nights (producing company). With the lack of V.R. training, this game is missing an old feel we all knew and loved.
Overall, this game is perfect. It has characters you love loving, love hating, and just plain love. The plot is the best video game plot out there, and the fun factor, gameplay, replay value, and all others are off the charts. This game is highly recomended to any fan of any genre...After all, a game isn't a game without ninja's and giant robots. And this game has that, and then some.
This game gets a nuclear Nine...Out of Ten.

| Can the best get better? Well,...yes. | | Mitch from Atlanta, GA USA says (12/Mar/2004): | Every now and then a reviewer is allowed to be a little biased in their writing, right? Well, when it comes to Metal Gear Solid in any form I immediatel think "outstanding!" The original MGS on PS1 was, and still is my favorite game of all time. I can remember the first time I fought Psycho Mantis. I seriously thought something creepy was going on. No other game has so completely enveloped me like MGS did. I used to play through it almost weekly, and it never seemed to get old. Some may think I'm crazy, but back then nothing could even come close to the story, boss fights, involvement, and overall excellence that was MGS.
When I heard that the old Canadian wonders, Silicon Knights, would be giving my baby an overhaul, I was excited, but also very wary of what could happen. Over the months of development I watched eagerly with a bit of uneasiness as new screenshots and movies were released. Finally, the big day has arrived and so has my preordered copy of The Twin Snakes.
Since it would be impossible to write a review of TTS without comparing it to the original, lets get the big differences out of the way. The cutscenes have been completely reworked and redirected to add a bit more to the storytelling. This is in no way a bad thing, mind you. Some of the action sequences are a bit over the top, but they're extremely enjoyable, too. The script remains nearly untouched, except for a few places where necessary (i.e. Psycho Mantis' fight). Dr. Naomi Hunter and Mei Ling have apparently lost their respective foreign accents, which seemed a bit off-putting at first, but then I found that it added to the authenticity of the characters. The Ninja has a different voice actor now, as well. The graphics have obviously been updated to today's standards, but they seem to be a bit sub-par for a machine that is more powerful than the PS2. I still think Sons of Liberty looks much sharper than The Twin Snakes. I welcomed the added abilities of MGS2, but they don't really seem to fit in to the overall gameplay experince very well. In almost every boss fight, doing exactly what I did in the original game got me through nearly unscathed, which was a bit of a let down. At any rate I was happy to be able to use my socom to shoot out the cameras that I used to have to sneak past.
Don't get the wrong impression here. I absolutely love TTS, but I have to be a little harsh on it because of my weekly high school love affair with the original. The story still shines brighter than a freshly waxed Benz after all this time. The added gameplay elements from MGS2 are cool, but the game lacks any situations where they really come in handy. After all is said and done, TTS rules. I loved MGS then, and I really love MGS now. If you never played the original, "where the crap have you been for the past six years?" seems appropriate, but "you really need to play this game" will suffice. Even if you did play the original, TTS adds enough new spice to the old recipe to make this dish taste even better now than it ever did before. Long live Solid Snake.
| SOLID SNAKE V LIQUID SNAKE | | MENTAL GEAR SOLID FAN from Land that created football says (16/Apr/2004): | This is a great game and after completing the game a few times a agree that the remake was worth it. The attention to detail and realistics in the game are amazing. What hit me first was how much the field looks different compared to the original. It adds tention to game and with breath taking views it wakes you want to play just for the graphics. This game looks best with your T.V Setting a little darker than than you would normally play games at. It gatts rid of that fake computer look and makes it look more ralistic. The heliport is great and the fisr thing that hits you about is how the snow comes down. On the original it looked good but boy not this good. Snow never looked so real. Everything about the buildings is smooth and as realistic as the gamecubes power can do. The AI or the CPU enemies in the game will shoch at first because of there new abilities to see just beyond the cone to come an inspect if the think they saw you. If they catch you they will usually run away and more amoured men with bigger guns will come to sort you out. If you get caught its very hard to get away without serious loss of life. There is far more tension sneaking around than there was in the original which is expected surly having been made by canadian software makers silicon knights. The torture scene which everyone hates is now a little easyier than it was in the fisrt which is good coz it was neer damn impossible on the first!!!! The bodd battles look more realistic and in some cases are much easier to do thankx to the new abilities snake has. For example revolver is much easier as you can now aim in fisr person mode and shoot him in the head which takes more life from him than it would if you shot im in the leg or body. This new touch is very realistic. Another thing i like is when fighting metal gear rex you can shoot at its railgun and that laser beam thing to destroy it so it carnt be used by liquid snake. This makes hitting that radom on its shoulder less harder and more satisfying that there is some skill behind what you do. The over all feal of the game is more authentic and polished. None of the words have changed mind but the cut scenes well they are stunning. They are more over the top and dramatic. For example when fighting the helicopter. When you have killed or got its life to zero a cut scene kicks in and the helicoper shoots a missile, snake jumps in the air in bullit time and jumps on to the rocket and jumps off it, wips his stinger missile launcher and shoots the helicopter. The effects in this scene are amazing...wait till you see the ninja scenes....pure brillience. Ill not ell you about the secrets but i will tell you that the stealth camo and bandana are bak as well as some more unlockables. YOU REALLY NEED THIS GAME. Fans of the original (like me) will still enjoy is fresh and amazing gameplay as well as the story. People who are new to metal gear and own are gamecube are missing out and really should invest that hard earnt thing we call cash to buy this terrific game.
| A Master Piece. | | Codename555 from Los Angeles, California. says (22/Dec/2004): | Nintendo has been making alot of cool games right now, but this one is one of the bests so far. Man, the only way to but this game in one word would be Awsome. This game has suspince, stealth, fighting, great graphics, a sweet story line, exadaration, action, and most importantly of all...a physic guy. Anyway, I recommend this game because its fun, the sounds great, and like I said before so is the graphics, and so is the story line. If your an action guy get the game, you won't regret it. The only thing anyone should regret about this game is that its a bit short. Another factor that makes this game great is the enviornment, its not a cheap area where if you make a noise the bad guys don't notice, no, if you make a noice theres a chance your going to be ambushed by alot of soldiers, and there eye sight isn't that far either. The bosses are incredibly tough and fun at the same time, they challange your stealth, shooting skills, dodging skills, reflexis, patience and over all your skill level. Its a great game, and I really think teens would like it.
| Jonathan of oak park michigan | | Jonathan from oak park michigan usa says (5/Feb/2004): | metal gear solid the twin snakes shows a great review of the first meatel ger for plystation also they have taken the gameplay from sons of liberty. I know this game will have good features.also if you played the first one you will know what you have to do to beat it of they,ll change to settings on the game so you have a harder time doing somthingthan you us to know.such as beat bosses and take out obsticals.
